      Funny, but sadly true. Nintendo from a legal and business side is not your best friend. They care about keeping the average customer happy (target audience being just people who like their games), but not community homebrew creators happy who want to actually improve what's already there and do a service.

    • @BrandonGiesing
      @BrandonGiesing 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This is exactly why Nintendo needs to be less uptight about it, like it's one thing if you are posting specifically about fan projects (which while still shitty, Nintendo does technically have full right to enforce their copyright), but unrelated Homebrew shouldn't be claimed cause the devs that work on these things might end up being the next big dev working on your platform in the future in official capacity bringing you lots of sales

      Nintendo always had an answer to this particular answer just in case they were asked. They said a specific hour range but I did not pay too much attention to it. They basically that the amount of time that it is matches the normal amount of hours that the average player plays in a week. Every game that every player has ever played on emulation has been following that policy. I do not remember if it mentioned anything about how they felt about their games being pirated fully. They might have said something about it specifically, but I do not exactly remember. Do not ask me where I found this information at, because I do not remember. They have their reasons on not allowing fan made games involving Luigi on the most part being made into an actual licensed Nintendo game. Using Luigi for a party game or family friendly game should not be a problem. I know that they mentioned that rejected some of the Super Mario 64 fan made games already. There is certain facts about Luigi that Nintendo does not want anyone who knows about them to be posted anywhere where everyone can see them. Nintendo also mentioned this also when they got interviewed as well.

    • @joshernsteen2066
      @joshernsteen2066 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know that Spirit Tracks will not let you proceed in the game if you are playing a pirated copy. Although it might have been made in a family environment, and then submitted to Nintendo like Phantom Hourglass was. I found the proof confirming how Phantom Hourglass was made somewhere on the internet. The game does act very different than a Nintendo manufactured game, so it could be possible the reason is the same as Phantom Hourglass.

      Most games effectively double-buffer graphics, due to hardware limitations. They poll input and calculate new game state one frame, then the next frame send that new state to the graphics chip. With emulation you can emulate a frame ahead to get the graphics a frame earlier, removing 16 milliseconds of lag. See RetroArch's input lag compensation.

      My least favorite part about this is that Nintendo has such a hostile relationship with their community in the first place. When someone is such a big fan that they volunteer lots of time to make cool stuff based on your work... that's not a threat. Don't sue that person, hire them.
      But Nintendo doesn't seem to have figured this out yet. They're still stuck in an old proprietary model of thinking about the world, trying to control everyone and everything, instead of adopting a more open and cooperative model. If they weren't such a big company. their outdated community-hostile practices would have been fatal by now.

    I'm a big fan of the original Shantae. I had been following Wayforward since they released Sabrina Zapped in 2000, an unusually good licensed title. I then picked up every release after by them, and already knew about Shantae. The game was delayed until well into 2002 by which time the GBA was out. But I still knew I wanted this GBC game and made sure I got it on it's release date. I still have the CIB game, and absolutely adore it. I had no idea at the time Shantae would end up being so rare and valuable.
    I'm glad to see the original Shantae finally get a reapperatance on Switch. This is a damn good game that everyone should play. It's the GBC's swan song game for sure, but it also feels like a swan song to the era of 8-bit gaming as a whole. Shantae is incredible.

      @madezra64 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Damaniel3 It's sad when you consider it. Management probably views them as people just getting to play video games and get paid for it. But it's SO MUCH more than that. When you're doing real QA, you're not even remotely getting to enjoy the experience. Your mind is on the work at hand, such as the level or specific area you're assigned to explore and find bugs in. You gotta focus and pay attention to what you're doing, where you're at, and how all that translates into your report after. Add on top of that the deadlines and stress of working, it's next to impossible to enjoy yourself in any personal fashion. Once that initial rush of playing the game for the first time wears off, it literally just turns into another job. VERY tedious. QA testers do not get paid enough or near enough respect. They are not just getting paid to play video games, they're getting paid to do a damn job.

    Always make sure your name is known and associated with the work you do regardless where you work at. If there is a wall between you and higher management, it is time to move on and switch teams/jobs, unless you want to be stuck there while your team leader takes all the credit and promotions and all you get is "great work, team, keep it up".
    Believe it or not, there are teams where team leaders/direct managers are transparent and the "big bosses" (those who can do money decisions) do notice you and your work.
