How much of a difference in cabin quietness and ride quality between the touring and the wilderness? Is the wilderness noisier because of the all terrain tires and extra ride height?
I talked to a wilderness owner, and he said no noise problem driving on the road from Chicago 100 miles into Indiana,I asked the same question, when Isaw those heavy treaded Yokahamma tire,he said no problem!
This is the Touring addition, which is the highest trim level! I have the Limited XT, which is a happy price medium and you get the same Turbo engine, suspension and leather interior and safety features. Lacks front view camera, rear view mirror camera, cooling seats, heated steering wheel, and electric fold down mirrors. It is a joy to drive and on long trips it gets you to where you are going relaxed, and feeling less fatigued! First Subaru and I’m incredibly impressed.
I love my Outbacks, but can honestly say, I'm not going to buy another until Subaru tones down the cladding... It's just too much for my liking. I prefer simple, clean exterior lines
Another great feature, so speak, is that the boxer engine has a lower profile, so the view out of the windshield over the hood is extraordinary. You see more road, and less hood. And that from a 2016 owner.
It's got a lot going for it... my biggest issue with it is that it's a $45K car that *LOOKS* like it costs maybe $35K. All that black cladding & frumpy front end just make it look so downmarket. And the wonky "tablet" based HVAC... ugh. Just my opinion, of course.
I bought a 2023 like this (called Premier XT in Canada) in this colour but black Nappa leather interior. Had it a week and love it. Couple of gripes for me is NO rain sensing wipers, which is a big one. Another is the Canadian version doesn't have TPMS sensors, yet the American one does. Makes no sense. But the ride is excellent, along with the power. It's actually faster to 60mph than my Dodge Durango RT (5.7 Hemi) was, without the high fuel bill.
I really enjoy my 2023 Outback Premium. At about $15k after trading in my Hyundai Sonata Limited with 35k miles it was a decent price. The only complaint is the 2.5L NA boxer engine accelerates on par with my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.5L NA engine. I really like the cloth seats and safety features, except I wish it came with RAB assist to stop me from backing into things (yes I have done it). My daughter bought a 2023 Limited CPO with 3500 miles and it's features are excellent with driver awareness, heated steering wheel, Leather Seats and a host of other options. She also traded in a 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited on the CPO Outback. Before trade-in the list was $37,500 and with a $7000 trade-in out the door was around $30,500 which is lot lower than the original sticker of $41,334. You just have to love the Outback. My recommendation is to extend the warranty before the 3year 36,,000 mile warranty is up. Just shop around to cover the expensive electronics in the Outback!
I have a 2023 Touring edition and I love it! My dislikes are some cheap interior plastics and around the shifter. It scratches too easy. The resolution on the cameras are terrible. The backup camera on my 2017 STI & my 2021 Crosstrek were way better. Not sure why. Other than that, I love the look of the outback. Not boring at all. The comfort & drive is amazing and luxurious with the reassurance of knowing that I can get through snow or gravel with ease is peace of mind and why I’m on my 5th Subaru
@@kevinsullivan7831 Well, Prius is a hybrid as many other reliable models which Toyota makes and they are darn good reliable. I would question if hybrid design significantly steers down car's reliability. Hybrid option would drastically increase fuel efficiency to 40-ish mpg range.

I HATE all the so called SAFETY BS--- it's TOO damn distracting and if a person can't drive their own vehicle safely- they have NO BUSINESS on the road... PERIOD!!! It's a crock-- in ALL vehicles- nothing against Subaru- but ALL vehicles have FAR too much tech BS!!!
The interior is great, the leather seats are super comfy and the amount space on the rear bench is way more than I expected it to be. You didn't mention the rear seats can be slightly adjusted which is amazing feat for long roadtrips. Boot space is also bigger than I thought it would be. I have a "boot testing kit" which consists of 2 removal boxes and 1 suitcase. I was able to put them in configurations no other estate/wagon was able to accomodate them. I don't like the facelift though, I much prefer the last year model and the front bumper was better designed. That plastic finish most people complain about? It's a blessing in disguise when you go and do some offroading or live in rural area. Would you rather scratch and damage that plastic or a shiny and polished bumper?
Went from full digital dash in a VW, to a 2025 Outback. I prefer the display of the Outback instrument cluster. In reality, I set the digital dash once in the VW when I bought it and never changed it since.
I own a 2023 Outback Touring w/turbo. In general I really like the Outback vs the Forester Touring I traded in in order to get the turbo. Three things that really irritate me are 1. The gear shifter is in the way when trying to enter a destination into the GPS, 2. Same with the location of the plug-ins for your USB cables, and 3. Opening the storage space in the center is a pain and it's hard to see what's there. One thing I like that the 2021 Forester didn't have is easy access to the A button. It's right there on the dash and not hidden in the dark recesses under the dash. IMO my Outback handles better than the Forester too. I can handle the gas mileage so I'm basically a happy camper and will probably keep my Outback for several years.
*I just got a 2020 Outback Premium XT. I’ve always been a truck/SUV guy but I love this car. Smooth ride, good performance and excellent features which make long trips more comfortable. ❤ I’m looking forward to getting a new one within the next 2 or 3 years.*
I love my 2018 Outback! It is fun to drive and extremely comfortable, even on long road trips. I test drove the new model and it was floaty and definitely not fun to drive. I have 2024 outback xt and highway keeping the speed limit 36 mpg 10 mile test run mix with 5 miles of stop and go and another ten on the interstate traffic the 4 miles on a country road total average was 33mpg. If you drive for mpg you might be amazed.
I purchased a 2024 Outback Touring XT in magnetite to replace a 2010 Outback with the 3.6 liter engine which we have put 221,000+ miles on. Love the handling but it’s only getting about 18 MPG on the turbocharged booster engine and I do not have a heavy foot. It is great to drive in bad weather (snow) so it is perfect for ski trips. We also enjoy the puddle lights that show the Subaru logo - not necessary but very helpful at night and very cool poking. The most annoying feature is the auto stop which quickly became the automatically turn it off button. The on screen display is sluggish&0 & a lot of features are buried in the layers of icons.
I test drove an Outback Touring XT yesterday and while I really liked it in almost every way, the brakes were extremely disappointing. Spongy, no real grab, and the pedal went to the floor at stop signs and lights. We have a 22 Legacy Limited XT which has pretty good brakes and the acceleration feels more responsive.

I have the 2017 XV or Crosstrek and considering this one. Can you fit recovery points? The XV has tie down points, not recovery points. Interesting that it has cordless Carplay, I just bought a cordless dongle for mine, I have an intermittent problem where the cabled connection drops out intermittently meaning I can’t navigate on the screen. I am yet to determine if this is the fault of the less than quality cable or the computer is causing the disconnect regardless of any cable. A plus is I learned how to reboot the screen by a long press of the volume button. Previously I stopped to have a coffee turning everything off and the screen connection is ok when I come back.

Hello Wisconsin! I love my 23 limited. Kinda wish i got the turbo, but 25 mpg was bad enough already. Wish they had a hybrid version... hopefully soon. It's not a beautiful car (although, the Dark Mahogany Pearl color i got is gorgeous), but it's very practical, capable, comfortable, quiet, and hopefully proves reliable. Seems to be a good value from base to limited/onyx. Beyond that, gets a bit expensive. Also, I think the physical gauges are elegant, and digital dashboards look a little too cartoony... happy with the gauge cluster.
I purchased a 24 XT touring in cosmic blue the brown interior Overall it is an excellent car. Car play sucks- calls drop all the time. Vented cool seats are worthless. They worked great for the first two months and now I barely function now. My dealer found that there was a voltage issue with the system , replace one of the blower units. They still don't work the way they used to. Car needs a software update which is in the works and won't available until July. Unacceptable to have to wait three months for an update. Would a buy another one ? yes, overall value exceeds the price point.
I drive a 2014 Mazda CX-5. It's the best car I've ever had. It's time for a new car, and I'm just torn between the Mazda CX-50 2.5 Turbo and the Subaru Outback Wilderness with the 2.4 Turbo. I like the clearance and off-road features of the Subaru. I just don't know that I'll enjoy driving it as much as a Mazda with the CVT in it. I also hate all the cladding and the copper colored doo-dads they put all over the car.
I think if you're worried about driving fun you have to be honest with yourself about how much offroading you'll be doing and if you think the CX50 CANT handle it...im betting it probably can
Outback is high on our list. We are looking for wagon (Outback still kind of fits but might be an SUV). All other options for wagons in the US are in the luxury segment, which is a bit frustrating.
awful cameras for 2025 , 360 cameras would have been nice , and tow package could have been included in the xt touring , the rearview mirrors are better in toyotas , with so many cameras a self park feature would have been awesome - my 2017 prius had it so this can definitely do it
It does LOOK like better quality- and the engine doesn't sound "tinny" and cheap any more-- and as to the sunroof-- they can KEEP those stupid things-- NO ONE needs a damn hole in their roof to become a leak later- and they ALWAYS DO. BUT- one thing you didn't mention- these are the SAFEST too-- in crash tests - you can pretty much ALWAYS walk away from accidents in these compared to AnY other vehicle. I wish the CROSSTREK were made this good- with the turbo-- and I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Thank the US EPA for requiring th "ASS" button. Every new vehicle has this useless function. Thankfully it can be turned off. But you have to do it every time you start the vehicle.
The infotainment system is awful!!! 🤬 😡 🤬 And dangerous. More physical buttons!! Fuel economy sucks! Add that Toyota hybrid motor asap! Ride is incredible. AWD The best in the world. Comfortable seats. Terrific storage. Powerful sleeper engine- 5.7 0-60 😮

Thermo control valve instead of thermostat? No thanks for 20-24 FB25 powered Subarus. I heard Subaru had a recall on those and are going back to more reliable old tech on the 25 Forrester and Outbacks with the N/A FB25 engines.
an annoying thing about the driver monitor system is that if you look forward through a turn, like an freeway on ramp or off ramp, it tells you to keep your eyes on the road. I AM you damn fool car!! so annoying. Having said that, I absolutely love my 2020 Outback Touring XT. It's a nice car.

Owner of the 2024 Wilderness, one thing I have to tell you this is one hell of a sawing machine! Go drive one, floor it, corner it, ride it over some bumps. Then come back to me and tell me you still want gears!
Drive a new VW Tiguan with that tiny turbo and 9/10 speed automatic. It's terrible set-up. Very unpredictable surgy power and a transmission that constantly hunting for the "right" gear. SUPER annoying to drive. The Subie CVT (at least in my 2019 3.6R) is great. The fake gears really make you think it's a refined traditional automatic transmission.

Drive the Forester with the ancient, slow, harsh and unresponsive 2.5L Boxer 4 cylinder versus the Outback 2.4XT equipped model with 80 more horsepower and more than 100ft lbs of torque and you will clearly see, feel and experience why the Outback is worth the extra beans. The 2.5 boxer is nothing short of ancient (despite having direct fuel injection), loud under acceleration and simply irratating to drive. It's dreadfully slow , loud and prone to NVH issues, especially in clod climates. It's just plain bad.
I have the 2.5... it's not that bad. For the money saved and the better fuel economy, the drawbacks you mention (noisier and slower) are not the end of the world. Is the turbo better? Yes, in some ways. But it's also out of reach for many budgets. The 2.5 option helped me afford this great vehicle and enjoy all the other wonderful aspects.
@@AndyRoss-z3t I agree with everything you said. I had a Forester XT that was taken to stage 1.5 Cobb tuned. I really was waiting for the Wilderness Forester to have turbo but no such luck.
All other options for wagons in the US are in the luxury segment, which is a bit frustrating.
turbo xt way to go; drives good.
awful cameras for 2025 , 360 cameras would have been nice , and tow package could have been included in the xt touring , the rearview mirrors are better in toyotas , with so many cameras a self park feature would have been awesome - my 2017 prius had it so this can definitely do it
How can you possibly want driver monitoring in your car???
It does LOOK like better quality- and the engine doesn't sound "tinny" and cheap any more-- and as to the sunroof-- they can KEEP those stupid things-- NO ONE needs a damn hole in their roof to become a leak later- and they ALWAYS DO. BUT- one thing you didn't mention- these are the SAFEST too-- in crash tests - you can pretty much ALWAYS walk away from accidents in these compared to AnY other vehicle. I wish the CROSSTREK were made this good- with the turbo-- and I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
I just purchased a 2024 Subaru outback premium comfortable ride but I do not like the stop and start that Subaru has added on
Thank the US EPA for requiring th "ASS" button. Every new vehicle has this useless function. Thankfully it can be turned off. But you have to do it every time you start the vehicle.
in for a surprise with a sudden breaking in traffic. all safety bs off before any journey, 15 touches. think prepping before take off...
no mention of dying batteries or self destructing windshields? nice review.
You need your woobie?
I wish this would be sold in Europe.. we only have the 2.5/175 PS, which is rather …conservative..
$60k in Australia. Still want one though
The infotainment system is awful!!! 🤬 😡 🤬 And dangerous. More physical buttons!!
Fuel economy sucks! Add that Toyota hybrid motor asap!
Ride is incredible. AWD The best in the world. Comfortable seats. Terrific storage. Powerful sleeper engine- 5.7 0-60 😮
I CANNOT stand digital touch screen displays in cars.... Guess I will be buying vintage cars until this horrible trend dies.
Keep driving the shitboxes
@doubleg8757 You think your car with plastic parts isn't a shit box compared to old cars where the same parts are made of steel? Righto mate. 🙈🙊🙉
@@cacaulaymulkin7724 bro I have a beetle from 1956 but I don’t drive it. I m driving a g wagon.
@@doubleg8757 lol Beatles have never been good cars. British manufacturing. G Wagons are embarrassing to own now that Mercedes has made them as a hypebeast/trophy wife car. They've lost all dignity and become a cringe status symbol of the middle class. They used to be actual military cars. I bet the G Wagons is your mom's car lol Ain't no male driving a G wagon unironically in 2024
Personally I'm glad Subaru hasn't gone down the ridiculous electric bull road yet!!! They are great cars!
I could get used to the huge screen but w/o a hybrid option it would be no sale. And, 45K seems high even for top trim.
Yep totally fair 💯
What are the different suspensions systems on a Subaru Outback!
This isn't a review. It's an opinion piece.
Spoiler alert most “reviews” are opinion pieces, hence why reviews vary.
Does 2024 ouback quite when you driving on the highway?
Yes 👍
@@dwnshft I see they have 3000+ off. I am interested the touring XT. I like the brown leather interior and the cool fan seat
Funny that you said he’s married to a woman because another reviewer that si use to like once commented rhat his “ husband.” Loved the red accents on a particular car.I was shocked guess I’m old school.A cool guy looks manly with a beard and bald head.
When you’re able to drive it like a bad out of hell and crash it i mean it saved my life
If u care about mpg then Subaru isnt for u. With regard to value and ride quality, Subaru is hard to beat. U would surely appreciate that sAWD when driving in the rain, the quality of ride was amazing for me.
Thermo control valve instead of thermostat? No thanks for 20-24 FB25 powered Subarus. I heard Subaru had a recall on those and are going back to more reliable old tech on the 25 Forrester and Outbacks with the N/A FB25 engines.
not relevant with xt.
an annoying thing about the driver monitor system is that if you look forward through a turn, like an freeway on ramp or off ramp, it tells you to keep your eyes on the road. I AM you damn fool car!! so annoying. Having said that, I absolutely love my 2020 Outback Touring XT. It's a nice car.
lol! that IS annoying!
Dealer says it can be deactivated. But must do it every time. Super annoying (like the ASS button). A completely intrusive and creepy thing knowing there is a spy camera watching you all the time. I would HATE, HATE, HATE that. But black plastic tape is cheap to put over it.
Your Grandmother called and she wants her station wagon back
Is there a CD player as an option?
Yes.
I love the cladding and the look of the car
The front design before better
Why someone who lives & drives in snow country ( snow levels over 150") and whines about MPG deserves no sympathy from me. This vehicle will get you to your destination. And NO...Wisconsin is not big snow country.
guys...great video! the subie playbook like the volvo(b4 the chinese bought out the swedish) if it isnt broke style/design ,dont fix it! i am the proud owner of 2016 3.6L 268hp born in "15($37,911)sticker or the 2024 2.4 @45k as advertised today. other than brakes & oil changes...it has performed Flawlessly. internal Combustion v Electric? if want to Own a car for a decade or more this is your vehicle. If you are a turning over vehicles2/3 yrs Leasing the Hybrids. Biden's predictions about All Electric are Xanadu...
A kid talking about a mans car. Repeating specs that anyone can pull from the net and not having a clue of why and for whom this is a wonderful car.
Stay away, from Turbos 4 cylinder engines get beat up,fact!!!
The Subaru's are great. The problem is they ALL have a CVT operated drive train. I want a real gearbox for the drivetrain....not a snowmobile drive system. Who ever dreamed up those systems must have designed sewing machines.
@@RareGenXer All these people talking crap about CVT have not been a Subaru, let alone an Outback Wilderness. Myth has a strong hold on humanity, and no matter what reality is Myth continues to take hold of otherwise normal people 😜
I tell you what we have a hybrid now Hyundai and I can promise you this I will never buy another hybrid as long as I live I will take straight gas any day of the week
if you want low performance, AWD and older tec.? thats a good car.
It has wireless apple CarPlay and android. All the safety stuff. What is the "older tec"? you are talking about? Also what does "low performance" mean?
@@drn13355 LOL he is riding on cope! I'll blast him in his ride in my 2024 Outback Wilderness any day in any condition. This is my 3rd Subaru and it is the best one yet!
Why does Paolo wear the seatbelt wrong (with the shoulder strap under his armpit)? it's not safe, and a poor example for a so-called "car expert."
If I'm going $40 k or up- I'm getting a MAZDA CX-50 MUCH nicer styling and quality FAR better.. in every way!!! AND- I watched it test by Sarah-N-Tune and it outdid most all others- and she does NOT "baby"a car through it's tests when she does them.. it WORKED.
LOL better in every way, I'll see you slip sliding all over the place in the snow. And off road you will not even show knowing the results why bother!
It's an excellent car, but if you have the money but a toyora 4Runner It's literally a TANK 😁🤫
The Us version of the Outback is fugly. Thank goodness we get the Japaneses based model in Australia.
It is indeed an ugly crossover that cladding with the terrible lookin grill certainly not design focused like a MURANO or Mazda.Interior is descent
Toyota back up camera is trash
These guys are nit pickers.Silly review, unprofessional.
One of you is gay but excellent review...
The basic 2.5 is great,if you want speed,,apply at NASCAR!
@@tomfilipiak3511 Great ??? Lol Evidently, your standards are pretty low.
@tomfilipiak3511 Harsh, loud, slow and unresponsive. But if you want better......you need Nascar ??? You're a retatd.
@@AndyRoss-z3t I agree with everything you said. I had a Forester XT that was taken to stage 1.5 Cobb tuned. I really was waiting for the Wilderness Forester to have turbo but no such luck. I switched sides and got a Outback Wilderness and there is no going back! Glad they never put the damn turbo int he Forester! The ride is so much better, the cargo room is more to my liking nice and flat. Handles like a dream, plush ride, great comfort and I can't believe after all these years I am now an Outback guy! Had two Foresters before this all I can say is they did everything right and did everything i ever wanted from a Subaru in the Wilderness Outback! This is a refined machine, have not taken it off road yet or snow just got the thing, but so far I really can't believe how good it really is.

The 2.5 is more than enough, that 4 cylinder with that turbo ,is asking for trouble,I got 32 miles to the gallon,3 adults, packed to the brim, with a car top carrier, loaded,it is great!Just bought my 4 th outback,2024,premium ,if you would of told this 75 year old greaser ,that I would be driving a 4 cylinder Japanese car when I was 75,I would of told you, you were nuts!
