Thanks for this! Just picked up my first ever Subaru ('24 Outback Touring). Gotta say, I'm blown away by the ride quality and stability (first AWD car as well). There are always little nits with cars. For me, the first is that the HK radio does not come with speed-sensitive volume. Kinda hard to believe when my '14 Altima had it. Also, they have the automatic driver seat rollback backward. It should roll back when I exit the car. Who wants to stand in the cold and/or rain while waiting for the seat to roll back on entry? Heated seating doesn't extend to the thigh bolster. Results in a schizophrenic experience. Not that it matters to Subaru, and it's already too late for me. ;-) Thanks again!
I just got a 2024 Outback. This is my first Subaru, and I love it. These are great secrets! It would be nice if you also showed how to reset or undue what you just did. For example, you put the key fob in sleep mode, how do you get it out of sleep mode? You set the seat way forward for yourself as a user, how do you change those setting?
I'm not a now back owner as of yet but that's going to change.... However my favorite feature on every outback is the levers in the back to drop down the back seats... Yes I know it's the simplest Thing, But I find that to be just great especially if you're putting kind of long in the back and you Don't have to reach all The Way in to put the seat Down or Walk around to the back door to put it Down, Simply Pull the handle in the back and Walla... I know, of all the Features the outback has , I have to be an oddball and like something like that
As a new Subaru owner (2024 Outback Limited), I had already picked up on most of these (very good!) tips in my research and my first few weeks with the car. HOWEVER, the seatbelt chime disable is news to me and is going to be a game changer - THANK YOU!!! Whenever I pick up my husband from work, it takes him a few seconds to get situated and buckle in, and by then I’ve always pulled away from the curb already. He has started to get so offended when the Subaru starts to “yell at him” while he’s trying to buckle, and gets especially frustrated when the chime volume gets louder. Maybe now he will love the car as much as I do! 😂
@BachmanAutoGroupLouisville autumn green with black interior. Didn't get a choice on the interior took over a canceled order. No inventory anywhere and the waits here in Canada are 6 months
Ordered a limited xt in blue cosmic with the platinium interior. They said 8 months wait time. I'm ok with that, just more time to save money as well as interests. Have fun with your outback!
Absolutely FANTASTIC ! Disabling the seat Belt chime Thank you Thank you ! I've done this in all my cars ! Mustangs and Bonnevilles and Malibus. The test drive was annoying with the chime getting louder and louder till I couldn't talk to the sales guy until I gave up and put the belt on. Thanx again !
DUDE! you are awesome. I knew about all but the seatbelt chime. It is THE MOST annoying thing about Subaru's (and I have had 6 of them since 1997). NOTE: I have a 2024 Touring XT. I tried it 5 times (at 20 clicks) and it did not work. Read the comments and a guy said 26 for the new ones. I tried that and it worked first time! Update for your vid. Thanks again.
Actually i think the rear hatch hidden code unlock only unlocking the front door makes perfect sense. If it unlocked the hatchback and not the door, then you have to crawl through to get in. I think it exists so you can leave your key fob in the car if you were going on a hike or playing basketball, etc and didnt want to carry your keyfob with you.
Funny thing I found with the chimes. If you park the car, released your seatbelt, then turn off the car, the door will chime when opened. If you park the car, turn off the car, THEN release your seatbelt, the door will not chime.
Good video, thanks. I just picked up my 2024 Limited XT. I had a 2020 before. Love some of the new (or fixed) items like a fully heated steering wheel and heated seats that don't have a second pop up menu on the head unit. I was also excited about wireless Apple CarPlay, however after 2 weeks of driving I have found that the car shuts down my phone connection without any warning and for no apparent reason. To reactivate Apple CarPlay (or any phone feature) I have to go into the head units phone menu, reconnect the phone and turn on the phone connection bluetooth and wifi in the head unit. I don't know why it deactivates everything but it does (and sporadically, no rhyme or reason to it). I also have my lane centering function turned off but it still sends a message and a beep to the driver's information centre when I change lanes without signalling (yes, I know, I should always signal but when I am the only one on the road or section of highway, I sometimes don't see the need). Wonder if there is a way to turn off that nanny system?
I wanted the Wilderness, but I needed the vehicle before the local place got any in stock! I went for the Premium model that they had in stock already and it's awesome.
The problem relying on face/eye user recognition to adjust seat position is that if you are 6ft tall and your wife/SO is short you can't even get in to the car in the first place for the car to 'recognize' you. In that case simply press the memory button on the door, then get in.
I have 2 outbacks in the past 7 years and I appreciate this so much. My son is a tech geek and figured some this stuff himself. I s did not even know the back seats reclined lol I don't sit back there so.. anyway thanks so much. Don't let the negative comment people bother, they obviously have nothing better to do! Looking forward to the 2025 video as that is my next purchase.
A different Subaru Expert just showed a video that if you disable the seatbelt chime and don't use the seatbelt certain other options may stop functioning properly like the adaptive cruise control. Here is a different solution (and safer) if you are just sitting in your seat, connect the belt behind you, it takes a moment and doesn't risk other issues when driving later on
why would anyone cruise the hwy with no seatbelt (using ACC)? The disable chime is simply for running to the neighborhood mailbox and such. It's so annoying to have my radio volume basically muted and the never-ending chime at volume 11 when I'm simply trying to drive around for a minute. No one is advocating against safety.
You are if you're not wearing your seatbelt driving around your neighborhood. What about that neighbor that backs out of his driveway doing 30 mph backwards? You run right into him... dead meat!
@@onetimer100 exactly mine is just to drive from my house down my long lane to the mailbox before I get on the highway. I don’t think my chickens are gonna make me need the seatbelt.
I am picking up and OB wilderness in a couple months and was a little bummed it didn't have memory seats as my wife is 5ft nothing and I am 5'8 and we share the car! so awesome to see that it is a feature in the facial scanning.
How that seatbelt trick work with other seats? I’ll store things in the passenger seat and the buzzer will go non stop. Same with the rear seats. Can I disable them? If so how. PS I always buckle, just don’t need the alert for material items in various other seats. Thanks man this was super helpful
great tip on secret code , just wondering how you can lock your key in the car if going surfing for example. As you disable the key , then place in car do you then use the secret code to lock the door as cannot see any other way to lock the doors.
I disable the keyfob and then just hit the "door lock" button next to the door handle - that does the trick. I also heard (haven't tested) that putting in the code will turn an unlocked vehicle into a locked one.
The secret code goes all the way to the roots of subaru's and surfing, hence the roof racks too etc. I believe the 80's subaru's had non electronic versions for surfers to enter the car after a surf with a key
Love the simple/direct approach of your videos… no “fluff” to wade through. Regarding “Sleep Mode” on the fob… I’m curious as to some of the practical applications… when and why one might want to do that… and, more importantly, how to get the fob “awake” again. I think one of the main practical applications for the “sleep mode” on the fob is so you can then lock the fob inside the car and use the secret code to get back in afterwards. This can be used when you don’t want to carry the fob around with you (on a hike, beach trip, or other activity where it could get lost or damaged). Without temporarily deactivating the fob, the car won’t let you lock it inside - sleep mode makes it so you can do that. As a fellow thorough manual-reader, I’m really enjoying my 2024 Outback Limited (my first ever Subaru) and all its practical features!
Great video with great info. I wish Subaru had an option to not have the geometric cladding around the wheel arches. I've not been a fan of these since they started using them.
Just a quick question on disabling the seat belt chime. I agree the chime is very annoying. I'm wondering though if you disable the chime, Will the light on the dashboard still warn you That's seat belts aren't on? My concern Is for children in the rear seat. While I always buckle my seat belt, I'm worried If there would be a way to know that the children in the back seats have not have put theirs on. Great video- I didn't know about the secret code, so useful- and yes, great not to have that annoying seatbelt chime (yes, always use seat belt)- many thanks!!
Great video. I found a Premier XT on a lot with the magnetite grey with black interior abd ahould have pickup in the coming days. One question i have is what takes the fob out of sleep mode?
Awesome video would you know how to turn on the beep for unlock and locking sound in Japanese outback. . As we do not have that feature. Our car just flushes the blinkers. And there's no on/off in the head unit. Cheers.
I just bought an Outback, but my question is , when I’m driving and I release the gas pedal, the speed drops quickly, not a lot but I feel it when it does that, I have never driven a car doing that, is that normal?
@@SallieMeyer-g8r it doesn't work on the hatch, just the two front doors. The hatch has the little lock button that you can hit to lower the hatch AND lock all the doors.
Word is that the 2025 model will have a hybrid engine. So if you want that sort of thing, then wait. But if you want the 2.4 turbo, you might not be able to get it if they discontinue it in 2025. Hopefully, we will have the option not to have the hybrid, but we don't know at this time.
Does the seatbelt chime disable work on the passenger seat? My husband gets furious when it chimes. He has to unlock our front gate when we enter our driveway, and I hear it the rest of the way down the driveway after he gets out. 😊
I just purchased a used 2021 OB with 7K miles on it (Not a typo, it's very low mileage). If the previous owner set a code, can I reset the code? I've tried setting the code per the instrutions, as did the dealership, and it's not working.
I have none of the features in this video. I don't have keyless entry and am wanting to turn off the auto lock feature. Where can I find that information?
Great video. I have a "dumb" by today's standards 2019 Outback Limited, that runs great and will probably be handed down soon to Kid. The problem is I can't imagine buying a new vehicle that isn't at least hybrid. Our '21 RAV4 hybrid gets 35+ MPG including Colorado mountain trips and has great performance. Why isn't there an Outback Hybrid? Why? Oh, and the RAV4 seat belt/door open chime is every bit as annoying!
I'll be trying to disable the seat belt dinger. That is annoying when I wonder if it also disables the dinger when I open the door before I turn off the car.
Thanks your trick about disabling the seatbelt warning worked on my 2024 crosstrek. Thanks for the trick that seatbelt warning is so annoying, especially when it gets louder.
When I first got my outback 2024, there was a button for extreme bass boost (something like that). All of a sudden - that option is GONE! Anyone know what I’m talking about? The dealership didn’t have a clue…
In my MY16 Outback, the seat belt chime goes off AFTER the car is on and moving AND if you haven’t put the seatbelt on, which is logical. That it goes off when sitting in a car that’s not even turned on is utterly ridiculous. That is a ******** stupid bit of engineering. And it’s even stupider that the only work around is to completely turn off the chime. 🙄
I hate my new Subaru. Sometimes the seats automatically work and sometimes they don’t. The widgets sometimes work and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes it connects to the phone and sometimes it don’t. The electronics on this thing is a mess. I just bought a seatbelt extender and keep it in and it never chimes, yay Thank you for the video!
The secret is that since Subaru started putting CVTs in their cars, they are no longer as good off road. For example, there is an embankment near me that both my 2005 and 2011 would climb right up with ease. My 2016 would not go up the same embankmenteven a foot. It just kills all power to protect the scooter CVT.
I was SO annoyed by the seatbelt chime. It is so loud and obnoxious and doesn't just ease into the chime so I'm glad you pointed that out!
Thank You! Thank You! for the seatbelt chime info ... it worked for our new 2024 Outback premium and we don't have the keyless start.

seatbelt trick works just unbuckling and rebuckling 20 times in short amount of time. only for front seats.
Really? You would do that every time you start the car?
How do I get my interior light to turn on and off when I get in an out the car?
Custom seat mirror goes with onyx?
#1 seems useless, #2 is definitely creepy, the rest are good to know. Thanks for the info.
Is that on the Crosstrek also or just the Outback??
I'll be trying to disable the seat belt dinger. That is annoying when I wonder if it also disables the dinger when I open the door before I turn off the car.
Just lock the seatbelt in and then sit down 🤷♂️
Does a person need to do everything seatbelt individually??
Or does one silence all of them?
Thank you for the video. Blessings to you.
Thanks your trick about disabling the seatbelt warning worked on my 2024 crosstrek. Thanks for the trick that seatbelt warning is so annoying, especially when it gets louder.
The seatbelt disable code for the win
the seatbelt chime cancel is handy for people with doggos on the back seat
True!
I couldnt help but notice two lovely ladies walking on the sidewalk. My Outback said "keep your eyes on the road." I cant get away with anything!
When I first got my outback 2024, there was a button for extreme bass boost (something like that). All of a sudden - that option is GONE! Anyone know what I’m talking about? The dealership didn’t have a clue…
The hidden code and disabling the fog:)
GREAT Video...Thanks so much!
I have a 2024 Crosstrek
Have that bar on top, but it doesn't actually scan me.
I have the limited trim
Whats the deal?
How any of these apply over to the wilderness?
waiting my 24 premier XT. Hope can see it in December.😅
Does it have TPMS?
Great info Thank you!!
Am I correct in assuming that the keyless entry code must be 5 digits?
Yes
How do you take the key fob out of sleep mode?
Just press any button on the fob
that is a lot of seat belt clicks. wow. good to know.
How do I wake up the key fob?
Just press any button
When they refresh for next year, I hope they get rid of the ugly excessive black molding around the wheels.
I wouldn’t hold your breath on that, Robert 🫣
I hate my new Subaru. Sometimes the seats automatically work and sometimes they don’t. The widgets sometimes work and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes it connects to the phone and sometimes it don’t. The electronics on this thing is a mess. I just bought a seatbelt extender and keep it in and it never chimes, yay
Thank you for the video!
Yep that ringer is loud . I haven’t seen any one say how to move apps where you want them.
Does pressing and holding on apps not work?
Press and hold app. Works just like an iPhone in that regard.
I thought you were trolling with the seatbelt ding disable.
