The way the blocks turned out reminds me of mitered squares in knitting. I love the pastel baby blanket - a bit of sophistication in the nursery.

Donna and Matt, how much fun it is to watch your videos. And, to think, we almost retired to Grants Pass, OR from the foothills of the Sierras in 49er country. I have always wanted to make a kaleidoscope quilt and now I know the shortcut on how to do that. I have been watching almost ALL of your videos and thank you so much, to both of you, for taking the time to make them. You are going to have an absolutely beautiful quilt shop and when we are out on the west coast and traveling from California to Washington State (where I was raised until age 13), we will definitely stop by and spend several months worth of Social Security in your wonderful shop. Looking forward to meeting you both!! Thanks again!!! Happy quilting, Vicki Robles

Good idea. I love it. But I’d do an easier trick by skipping a few steps. Put the two blocks side by side, right side up but don’t cut them yet instead flip them on top of each other right side together. Draw a center line diagonally and sew from one end to the other using the line as a quarter seam marker and repeat sewing the other diagonal line. Cut through the center line. You get the same two blocks!

It is 55 inches with the borders so I will tell her it is a picnic quilt. It only took me an afternoon to make it. Thank you for a fun and easy project!

Just beautiful! I found your tutorials a few months ago & really enjoyed watching lots of them! I have to give you a big “Thank You” for the tip on placing a hand weight on the end of your long ruler when cutting. I purchased a 5 lb. weight and now use it all the time! What a difference it has made in my cutting. No more inaccurate strips! I’ve been quilting & sewing for “years” and this tip is one of the best!! Looking forward to many more tutorials.

Hi Donna and Matt! I love this tutorial and I wanted to share an insight I found (you probably already know this). Rather than find two similar 10" squares to cut on the diagonal in opposite directions, I lined up the lines of the two layers of fabric as best as I could with the fabric still on the fold as it would come off the bolt (2 layer thickness). I cut a 10" strip, then a 10" square, then proceeded to cut each double layer square on the diagonal. Since the lines matched originally, each triangle pair - when opened up - were mirror images. Every block unit, lines and colors matched as well as a batik could! Thank you so much for sharing your quilting knowledge with us! (Not sure if I explained it well but did the best I could) :)

Hi Donna you have a good eye for patterns and fabric. I love to watch you. I have made this same block before and I am bias challenged. We would take the same two blocks and lay them together with the stripes going the same way. Then we would draw the line from corner to corner and handle them the same way as a HST. There is a lot more forgivness for us that haven't done much bias sewing. lol Beautiful quilt. Thanks!
