Ditra Heat, how to install it start to finish. Ditra Heat is a floor warming system made by Schluter, it is a three component system consisting of the Ditra Mat, the cable system and the thermostat, it comes in both 120, and 240 volt. The Ditra mat for the Ditra heat is configured in such a way that the heat wire can be easily inserted and routed through the mat to heat the desired areas, in this case the whole floor was heated, except area under the vanity. Ditra Heat can also be used to heat different zones. The Ditra mat is installed the same way as the regular Ditra uncoupling membrane, and serves the same function with the added capability of accepting the heat wire. One important difference is that a ¼” square notched trowel is used to spread the thinset instead of the regular Ditra trowel. Once the mat has been installed, the wire can be routed into the mat. The heating cable must be placed no closer than 3” from the wall, and 8” from a heat source, (Hot are vent, base board heat, etc.). The cable and probes must be tested with the appropriate meters before they installed, after they have been placed in the mat, and after the tile has been installed to retain the warranty. All the directions are included with the system. All tile installed by Sal DiBlasi, Elite-tile Company, in the Boston North Shore area. Hi Sal - How are your knees not killing you?
You amaze me. Had to stop a week ago from knee pain even though I have expensive thick cushion knee pads.
Great work Sal! By the way, I use Carl from Cutting Edge Tile. Met him after i saw him on one of your videos. Great guy!
The Flash. 👍
That was a lot of fun to watch, Sal. Thanks for showing.
Towards the end, floor in front of the thin-panel radiator has been thinset-ed and dried already, then thinset again to place the tile it looks like. What were you accomplishing with that?
Mike
Nice job
Thanks!
Hey Sal, any reason you didn’t center that first tile in the doorway? Would’ve been left with too small of a piece against the curb?
hi sal what kind of tile leveling system called pls. havent seen that before thannk u awesome video once again
Not available just yet
@@SalDiBlasi thank you for quick response.... Let us all know how they work out sal !!!
@Sal DiBlasi - Sal I love your videos. I'm doing my bathroom remodel right now and installing a curbless shower. For the interface between the shower and the bathroom floor, when I'm calculating the two thicknesses to make them equal, what value do you use for the mortar beds?
Unsure how Sal does it; we focus on the shower floor first with appropriate pitching for water drainage…once the shower floor/pan is done then we calculate the floor considering underlay, thinset thickness, and tile gauge. Doing the math before doing any install helps but rarely its accurate. Hope this helps.
I’m curious on the electrical part. How to add electricity for heated floors. I’ve seen tons of video showing a thermostat with power already available. They never show how to properly feed electrical to the thermostat?
I just did my bathroom. I had a 220 volt baseboard heater that I removed and just used the electrical box that the old thermostat was in with the new infloor heating thermostat. The wiring from the main panel was already in place.
I would suggest that you get an electrician to run the power from your panel.
@@jurgenkreisel9092 I don’t want to hire an electrician. I want to do it myself. But apparently I’m probably going to have to hire an electrician and I’ll be their shadow for the process to get power into a bathroom for floor heat.
@@jurgenkreisel9092yeah I just watched the video and of course power is already done. So in my eyes how was this video a “complete” process to install floor heat?
I am not an electrician, so I am not allowed to make connect any wires. However the video shows how to set the mat, install the wire and sensors as well as set the tile. Asking a tile guy to show you how to run a new circuit from the breaker box is pointless. Next we will show how a plumber installs the kitchen cabinets, you know it has a sink with water.
Schluter instructions are clear, all electric connections must be performed by a certified electrician.
Another awesome video, Sal. I'm curious about the layout for the wiring. You 3 spaces, then 2. Is that the normal? I do assume that along the wall are just not needed, and you kept the wiring in the field that will be used. Does it require 220 volts?
This was 220 but 120 is also available. The wire can be run either 2-3 alternating or 3 puck spacing.
Awesome! Thanks for the info.
