Note: when you take the trim panel off, lift the rear part up, then pull away from the wall. There are slotted fasteners at the rear and I broke mine because I pulled it straight off.
Also, when reinstalling the panel be sure to remove the three clip from the top of it, near the window, and install them first onto the metal slots where they belong. Then clip the panel onto them during installation.
I've come back to this video a few times to remind me how to remove that panel, I always laugh at the words "you're gonna have to figure it out"😂. Good video though sir, mucho help, thanks for the upload.
What size are the back speakers so I can buy them before I tear apart my car. Also, if I am correct, the speaker system consists of tweeters (in dash), woofers (in doors), and sub-woofers (in back panels). When you replace your speakers, do you replace them with the same? Did you find speakers with the plugs that VW has on their OEM speakers, or do you splice the new ones in? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm a newbie to this stuff.
+Stacey Blanton 6.5 inches- I did have to strip the wires and splice them in- but I just put in regular speakers- I did add sub woofers myself. I didn't read anything about subs being in the back and I am pretty sure if you put 6.5 inch subs in the rear they wouldn't get enough juice as you normally connect subs directly to an amp. Good luck and let me know how it turns out!!!
but what about the mounts? I see the wiring on the speaker is soldered onto the mount that is clipped into it. but thanks! i thought i had to buy special speakers for it.
If mounts you mean the wiring and connectors you will just cut the old housing and directly place the two wires on the two connectors on your speaker. That is what I did anyway :)
WOW! You couldn’t find a tutorial so you showed your viewers zero approaches to removing an interior panel, just so your aware thanks for nothing dude!
How much time did you waste putting this video together. Sure didn’t tell much. Next time show how you took it apart and skip just showing a panel leaned up against the car with the advise”you figure it out”………

I have to change my rear speakers so thanks so much for taking the time to show how its done. Will surely save me breaking something - I hope!! :-)

Thx!
Thank u. Gotta put my window up manually.
Thanks for taking the time to post! What speakers did you replace with? 6.5?
Hey Dave- yeah they were 6.5. Thanks for checking it out and good luck man!
So all 4 speakers are 6.5, has the potential to be a killer system, thanks, Dave
so do I have to buy a special mount/speaker for these? I want to buy better speakers but I haven't found anything about this
TheythinkimNinja naw nothing fancy just 6 inch speakers- there are rivets but you can replace them with screws. removing rivets sucks
but what about the mounts? I see the wiring on the speaker is soldered onto the mount that is clipped into it. but thanks! i thought i had to buy special speakers for it.

oah, Thank you, i didnt realize you could do that.
rivets.. why do they do that?
yeah for real...hate those things
Thanks for the "figure it out" on the clip at the bottom.... very helpful.....NOT!
You just have to pull as straight up as you can on it.
