I just came from the dealer ship for an oil change and tire rotation. My 2021 cx-5 has 9,100 miles on it,they wanted $150 for a new filter. I said I'll wait and come back another time, a customer told me to go on You Tube, it's real easy to replace. Thanks for this video.....u saved me big bucks. I do love my CX-5.
You’re welcome! $150 is ridiculous!! I’m happy you didn’t get it done there. But, that’s exactly why I posted this video. Thanks for watching and for the comment
Same here! I declined and ordered it for $10. However, dealership said its cabin air filter change plus sanitizing of HVAC system? Is that BS? Or is that a real thing
This is crazy because I just found out about this literally yesterday 😩😂😂 they changed it out and charged me so much. I went home and didn’t realize I could buy them so cheap and now thanks to you I know exactly what I’m looking for!
Ridiculous. That should be a courtesy driveway replacement (buy the part, their lot guy installs it) or as part of a regular service. Find an independent service shop. Dealers are crooks. That's why they are called Stealers.
There is a dampening latch on the lower right side of the glove box. If you release it, the glove box drops down further allowing easier access to the the filter.
@@MeAndCarKeys That damping arm appears to be screwed to the door assy, it doesnt seem to just unhook. And the screw holding that arm to the door is half way hidden by padding. Something isn't readily apparent.
Thank you so much for this video. I just left the dealership and they offered to do this for 60$! I just ordered mine and will do it myself. Thanks for showing me how!
@@MeAndCarKeys you got off cheap, they wanted to charge me $100. Manufacturer recommends 2 years or 24K miles. I was at one year and 8k. I took it out, banged it against the wall, put it back int.
😂 and that’s exactly why I posted this video!! Dealerships overcharge for even the smallest cheapest things and a lot of it we can do on our own for very cheap! Thanks so much for watching and for your comment! 👍
Thank you so so much for showing me/us how to change this filter. I bought a 2021 in April 2021. They talked me into buying the extended warranty which includes "free oil changes". They sent me a video of what they did/inspected and my filter wasn't that dirty but I figured that next oil change, I might need to replace it and did not want to pay them to do it. My part # CF11811 is the same as the one you showed on the video. Although I will not be changing it for a couple of months, it's good to know when it's time, I can now change it myself thanks to you. You are appreciated. Thanks again.
You’re very welcome!! And that’s why I posted this video. I realized how easy the filter is to replace and I know dealerships will charge crazy amounts to replace them. But we can do it ourselves for pennies and in about 15 minutes!! Thanks for watching and Congrats on your 2021!!
Thanks M.A.C.K.! I knew it would be easy and have done my own in a Honda Civic, Honda Fits and my Ford F150. Just get me pointed in the right direction. 😃
No problem! Glad I could help! These dealerships are definitely a rip off! Ive heard people getting charged over $100, which is outrageous! thanks for watching!
Great video, thank you! I am curious why the instruction said that it would take ~24mins, however, it only takes you 2~3 mins to get it replaced. Did I miss anything?
Thanks for sharing this with us. It cost me $65 plus to have it done at the dealership. I will check the price locally. PS if you promote local businesses instead of Amazon, it will help the community.
No problem! Glad I could help! I agree with you, I always option to help out local communities first! However, in this digital world we now live in, it’s much easier for me to suggest a product on Amazon than to link specific local stores since we all live in different places. Amazon is worldwide and you can get this product quickly and be done.
Dealership quoted us $155 to replace the filter *and* clean the HVAC. My wife (who was there), and the invoice, said they sprayed some "Sea breeze AC cleaner" in the HVAC and then someone used some sort of vacuum cleaner to go into the vents and clean them. I've never seen the latter being done nor heard about it. Any thoughts? I know they overcharge for replacing the filter (both parts & labor). But is cleaning the HVAC a thing??? Thanks for the video!
Yes I’ve heard of that type of cleaning but I’ve never done it. It seems like something only for extreme situations, like if you had mildew or mold in your vehicle. I’m sure it’ll help though. And your filter may stay clean a little longer. Thanks for the comment and for watching.
Did you input your year under the filter on Amazon? It says it fits a 2021. Spearhead Premium Breathe Easy Cabin Filter, Up to 25% Longer Life w/Activated Carbon (BE-811) www.amazon.com/dp/B07CP3VKSQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6S25VKF3QFM2J3PBTFYF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It is so much easier when cabin air filters are located behind the glovebox. So many car brands put the filter in the front passenger footwell and those are a pain to change.
@@MeAndCarKeys Perhaps I shouldn’t have said footwell. It’s more like underneath the dashboard in the thingy that separates the driver’s and passenger’s seats. Still you have to wedge yourself under the glovebox and fiddle with the plastic trim to access the filter. But often you can’t see what you’re doing and wiggling out the filter is not easy. And there’s usually a tiny little screw somewhere that is either a pain to replace or gets lost somewhere in the process. So if I ruled the world, all cabin air filters would be behind the glovebox and all fuel filler doors would be on the driver’s side.
@@georgelush1998 ok gotcha! 😂 I agree, I’m with you! That’s probably why most people would never change them! Interesting…a lot of people have messaged me saying that they didn’t even know cabin filter existed…
