    Hey guys ... the "seal" coat I mention in the video is the same mod podge. After your first coat of mod podge is dry, add another coat of the mod podge over your glitter this time. Be gentle. This prevents any glitter fall outs. It helps to seal it in. Let that dry completely before using it. It will dry clear.

      Alamgir Khan I don’t think so... since the modge podge is made with water it means it’s water soluble... I believe getting it wet will break it down.

    I been doing this for a few years and it works great ..I had Google it and it was the same as a modge podge ..That's why I did this many many years ago it's a money saver ...And yes it def needs over a spray of clear seal spray ..But it does work ..I say this for the people complaining about it ...I still got my projects around it's a great alternative but do seal coat it as a extra form of securing it more ...And Ido gotta say this i didn't think of mixing it in a mason jar ..So that I will do next time ...Plus Dollar tree does carry for a $1 modge podge too ...I was thinking of making a jar with it in it too

    Except that mod podge is made with varnish, this is just watered down glue. So unless you're adding varnish or some other hardener then you're not making anything other than watered down pva glue which doesn't have anywhere near the same durability.

  • @AnnaMorris411
    @AnnaMorris411 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    If your primary surface area is copy paper or light weight cardstock, don’t add water! Water makes paper swell leaving it warped. Add a third part floetrol to the Elmer’s Glue. It’s available in box stores in the wall paint department. I use Flood because it’s available in a quart bottle. It goes on thin so you’ll want to use a bigger brush because it dries in less than a minute! Repeat until the surface is sealed. Usually 2-3 applications!

  • @lyricwritertoo

    Just to be clear the title of video is now to make your own modge podge. Adding an acrylic top coat of your choice is an option. To any project. It’s like doing your nails some do 20 steps I only do top coat. Period. You also just cant say you need a top coat. Top coat can be oil based, acrylic, varnish, poly, urethane. All age differently and are completely different chemicals. I water down wood glue for gluing cardboard projects. Because cardboard is from trees and trees are wood. Do you want to know how many men say that I can’t do this? Works great for recutting my moving boxes into bookcase sized storage boxes then covering. Also used for stage craft for elementary schools where the men said nope cannot do that. Basically I’m saying. Stop being negative all over the www.

    OMG... it turned out Beautiful..
    I only use plain glue... I think adding the water
    would have been better...
    I also made my business sign 8 foot x 4 foot...
    (yes you read that right!!) and put pounds of Glitter
    on each letter ... Remember if you do that to paint the
    same color underneath the glitter first, then add plain
    thick elmer's glue...and gobs of glitter... leave 24 hours
    before shaking excess glitter off the sign...

Your recipe is missing the main useful ingredient: acrylic varnish. This is simply diluted glue and yout project will turn yellow with time.

      Yes, but it will come off. Why do you think Mod Podge is more expensive? It's not the same!

    OMG FOR REAL? That's all there is to mod podge? D: I could have been saving money by buying just regular glue and stretching it with water!

    Nice! But how do zi soften and clean my brush if I reuse it bec it turns stiff after each use. Please advise. Many thanks!

      Angeles Quilloy directly after using the brush, massage the brush under warm water like you’re washing your hair. do this until the brush isn’t sticky and just feels wet. then let it dry with the bristles facing up.

    Can we do decaupage too with this home made mod podge

    • @lyricwritertoo
      @lyricwritertoo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, modge podge is basically glue. I’m old and old school. Back in the say we only had a hardware store which I STILL only use. No such thing as a Micheals. You dont need it. Like chalk paint. My new hobby. First look up not what chalk paint is but what Chalk is. It’s basically gypsum. But there are several different kinds of gypsum chalk in nature. Plater of Paris comes from a mine outside of Paris France and has one ingredient no other chalk base has. Which is why they used it for casts. Knowledge is power!

    So, I made this mixture a while ago to do a project, and it worked pretty well, but today when I tried to open the jar to use it again something happened. The lid of the jar that I used is now glued to the container, and I believe that it is because of the shaking. So now I can not use the jar or the mod podge. Also, I noticed that the glue separated from the water and there is just a solid, white glob at the bottom of the container. Even though the idea was good, it had some inconveniences.

      I believe you have to keep shaking it up when using it or stirring it ...also ...depending on the container you have it stored in...if its plastic & you cannot get the lid off ...just cut the top off & put into another container. Hopefully this will help.
