Hey Big Garf! Randomly came across this video on my home feed. As a new creator, the advice here was awesome and seeing your 1 year journey was even better. I really resonated with that "intuition" you were talking about - both getting it right and when something misses the mark, even when you're confident the audience will love it Your visual editing and storytelling are top notch! Congratulations on the first 1M+ video and the huge surge of subs. Just liked and subbed - looking forward to more!
Scribblenaut video hit my feed last night and I’m loving it. It’s so hard to find new channels especially when YT insists on just pushing the same stuff I’ve already watched. I love animation, (non drama) commentary, easily consumed gaming content and some comedy. My whole feed is usually GMM, Kurtis Connor, drew & danny, game & film theory, Jayden animations etc. I absolutely LOVE Jayden’s animated gaming videos and some of your vids have scratched that same itch!
A piece of advice I'd like to add as someone who does editing work for a youtuber with around 150k subs is that changing the title and thumbnail can give a video a 2nd wind and have it pick up in the algorithm again. You don't necessarily need to abandon videos that don't do well in the first few days or even weeks.
Funny thing about 9:22 is that TH-cam sometimes decides to suggest my videos involving Toadette to people who are watching makeup tutorials, which seems dumb but I get way more views when it does that so 🤷
Congrats on 1 year doing TH-cam also I can't wait to see the origami king video cause I have to know exactly why you put it under sticker star. I don't really care much about color splash I see color splash and sticker pretty similar but origami king is the only modern paper Mario I thought was alright overall.
Amazing vid! I have been doing yt for a few years in a really specific niche and always wanted to branch out but didn't want to disappoint the subs. But this is really inspiring stuff man! Really lit a fire in me again! Unfortunately, right now, I am writting a thesis, but I will definitely be making videos again when that's done
First found this channel from the lions vs pokemon video. It's really awesome to see the progress since then! That Patrick Star game video is definitely my favorite one you made this past year, such a banger vid.
appreciate this, it's an albeit annoying reminder- the 'you gotta just start, don't let the anxiety stop you from doing' - but a good reminder as well. And course not an easy thing to actually implement, so it's awesome that you were able to figure out a way to- and for a whole year as well. i do def agree that your older videos struggled with pacing and keeping ppl engaged- and then yeah the scribblenauts vid is a great example on how you've improved. excited to see what else you got in store for this year :0 also really funny the folks in the comments being like 'didn't ask - just post more funnies', like my guy just don't watch if this vid isn't what you want to watch??? Tho more engagement for you LOL
Man, congrats on the great year with TH-cam! It's always cool to see how creators have grown, and over the past year I've been introduced to tons of great new small/medium-sized channels. I myself have kinda given up on the TH-cam dream. I just think what's required for a video to succeed removes a lot of the joy of creation for me. My favorite videos have been heavy on improv with editing to break up the boring parts, and when I try to write scripted content, I just lose interest. It's a shame that I don't really have the drive like I once did, but I've taken my creative energy to explore other media. I'm currently learning Godot to see if I can make games! And maybe the excitement will return some day! But personally, I'm tired of being in the cycle of "My videos need to be better" -> "I try to make them better, but I'm not enjoying what I'm making" -> "Now I'm not making anything at all" -> "Just make some slop. Make anything." -> "My videos need to be better" BUT I did learn some valuable things over the years of making videos. Appeasing to your sub base will limit who will see your videos, so if you want to grow you should explore new content types. And the other main thing I learned was try to make evergreen content. Videos based on trends can do well initially, but chances are your best performing videos will be ones that didn't start off well, but are consistently viewed over the years.
I hate scripts but maybe I'll try it out this time. This video has inspired me to look at it in the same prospective with a different POV... or POV with a different Prospective? I don't know but I'll try scripts. I saw your videos at some point but never clicked on them until I fell into a scriblenaugts rabbit hole and stubbled upon your video. Keep making videos
This video really helped me. Thanks. I'm partnered on twitch and have been trying to figure out TH-cam for awhile. We should talk shop about twitch and TH-cam somtime
@@biggarffan37 Eh, the topic can be interesting, so I gave it a shot. It's just that the video itself is not very interesting or entertaining. A lot of the tips are something pretty much everyone is aware of, it's not relatable to people starting from 0 (it can take weeks, months, if not years, to get the hundreds, sometimes thousands, of views head start you dismiss) and is very bloated, because a lot of it is just retelling everything that happened instead of focusing on the important or interesting parts. Just focusing on the core ideas "Good Thumbnail; Good Intro (viewer retention / %watch time); make things people are interested in; the most important part is to start and produce content; don't be discouraged if not everything is a hit, it helps you become better" and giving small explanations / short summaries of your own experience about these things would be a lot more engaging than just going through everything chronologically without much structure.
I went through chronologically mainly to show which videos taught me which lessons as I progressed. I wanted the video to show the tangible improvements I made and why I made them. I skipped a lot of videos that I thought weren’t very important. This was, as I stated pretty clearly in the intro, both my one year summary and trying to share what I learned through that experience. In terms of the head start you can think what you want, but it realistically had no impact on where I am today. None of my videos did well because people knew me: I sure wanted that to be the case, but realistically Twitter shitposts and gaming videos just aren’t very similar audiences. My highest view videos are all because of the TH-cam algorithm and that wouldn’t really change if I had 0 subs or 100: the difference there is negligible when homepage is where the growth is.

I’ve def heard this before but haven’t experienced it yet so decided not to speak on it myself. Very good thing to keep in mind tho!
Honestly I wish that wasn't a thing as a viewer because it's annoying.
Crazy how much quality is in this channel for the current sub count, I can’t wait for this channel to explode
Big Garf is gonna hit 100k subs by the end of the year mark my word!
Great vid! Great of you to make this for everyone as well
1 year of banger content
I am new from the scriblenaugts video and I was so glad to see you make content about mario party... some of the best games around

It's pretty ironic to upload a video nobody wants to watch, giving advice on how to make successful videos.
It's pretty ironic to click on and engage with a video you say no one wants to watch
Me when I could just not watch a video but instead waste my time complaining about said video
