I think a Polo style shirt is also a men's wear that has stood the test of time. It's a staple in closet. Very versatile. Can be worn with a shorts or pants. Both tucked in or outside.

Polo shirts, though, tend to show up every wobble and man boob on the older guy. especially block colour. You want a patterned one of some sort to draw your eye away from those unsightly curves.
Like always right on point with style. You never fail to hit the nail on the head on fashion advice. I own a variation of all you have mentioned as classics in my closet. Although my choice in color and style may differ, that’s what makes my personal style my own.

Nice detailing on the jacket with top and bottom zippers as classics often offer increased function as well. Patterned button downs are perfect for eating out when wait staff may inadvertently splash today's special. These are truly investment pieces and welcome additions to a well-curated closet.

Another great video. I tend to play with prints and patterns in the warmer months and keep it classic and stylish in the fall and winter. I have totally rocked the light weight v necks in the fall but tend to lean more to cable knit cardigans in the winter

Great video! Yes, the classics its where its at but in the past it tend to look a bit dowdy. However by using the leather sneakers(brown or black)it gives it a new take.
Great to see the Harrington listed. Growing up as a young Mod in the UK in the early 1980s, my fledgling style included a beige Harrington with chequered lining that I wore pretty much to destruction.
I would also suggest that Chelsea boots would make a great addition to the list of must-have timeless classics. They go with jeans/pants/chinos and they are always on point.

Great video, I agree the classics never die. I find Loakes to be a smart comfortable option, particularly the Chelsea boot (or the George boot if one can get them). I love chinos, I wear them all the time, boring I know. Thank you for your effort!

Hi John, another excellent video! Really good advice regarding the classic look. I'm way conservative with the brown shoes. I only wear browns with browns or khakis, but that's just me. I did just get my first two Anson belts and am very happy with them, so thank you for that!

I despise tight fitting everything, the latest trend. Fortunately, it hasn’t afflicted my favorite trousers, classic, top-quality corduroy. Velvety soft, comfortable, easy-care, and long-lasting. Because my overall length is 1” less than what’s available, I enjoy a sense of accomplishment by expertly hemming them myself in a way that outlasts the machine serge stitching done by tailors.
A leather jacket is by far the most versatile kind you can own. It looks rich, smells rich, conforms over time, and ages well. Apply a leather conditioner once or twice a year and enjoy!

One thing I remember my dad saying. Style never goes out of fashion . The item of clothing that I am surprised that wasn't mentioned is the Sports Jacket. I collect these like women collect shoes and they are very versatile and can be worn on most occasions . They never go out of fashion. Great vid.

Made my first purchase of classic fit dark indigo jeans from PMNYC a few months ago and loved the fit. Just purchased the stretch version of the same pair and they are sooooo much more comfortable. Hope to purchase some tops and jackets from them in the near future.

Hard to find Jon, Try 6'-1" 420lbs broad shoulders and built like a linebacker.Thanks for the cool looks though. I try to fallow a lot of your heavyset looks. Thank you for the Peter Manning reference, I have a hoodie and a field jacket from them. Although they are pricey, the fit is great especially since I am 5'5 tall and with their size chart, I wear a 3. Who says men our age ( turning 59 next month) can not look stylish.

Very nice overview of some classic menswear. I’m 5’ 9’ as well, however; unlike you, i have a few extra pounds I need to lose. I do find that slacks with a little bit of stretch material help with the fit and comfort of the pants. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and I enjoyed watching another one of your great videos. Hi John! It's several years old from Banana Republic. I just looked and don't see it on their site.
All good points that i employ! I'm shorter with a small chest and finding classic shirts that fit is impossible. A men's small is huge on me. So, I've gone to wearing Boys XL shirts, esp Polo--classic American shirts that fit! Unfortunately, my legs are too big for boys pants. Keep up the great work.

Hi great video, one little problem I have Levi jeans with stretch fabric and as they get older they lose their fit, even to the point believe it or not when I sneezed they fell down 😂 good job I was at home.

You missed one of my favorite classics, pair of classic Khakis, plain or pleated with a short or long sleeve blue chambray shirt. A pair of classic loafers or Sperrys, set it off with a nice coordinating watch with a related tan/navy NATO band, your set. Fashion over 70

Hey John. Other than Peter Manning who is your go-to for dark slim fit jeans? Also, I do not own Chinos but thinking about purchasing....any brand recommendations? On another note, love the classic jazz.

Check out chino at Target. He mentions them in another video. Inexpensive and lots of fit and color options.
The navy sweater paired with the dark wash jeans, makes you look like a giant purple eggplant, or a nurse wearing matching scrubs. Try more of a contrast, like A kelly green, or orange sweater but the dark wash jeans, you can still wear a navy sweater, pair with those lighter jeans, tan or olive khakis

John, Just as a heads up to you and your followers, if you purchase from Peter Manning using your link and want to return items, they will only do an exchange or store credit since it was technically "on sale". In my case, I spent over $400 and the style of their clothing was not right for my body type. The rise on the jeans is very short and the largest size jacket (4x) is equal to about a medium. I called and they made an exception since I was a first time buyer, but they were not happy about it. Not a good online experience. Thanks for the video though and always great information.
