I don't understand the love of olive chinos but I remember it from MFA back in the day too. They can look good with brown or grey tops, but I think outfits look better when you have a coloured top with neutral bottoms than the other way around. The foolproof way is to stick with bottoms in greys and browns (note the prevalence of grey wool and brown cotton trousers in classic menswear) and combine it with coloured tops. Green is just such an excellent colour for knitwear and outerwear that it would be shame to waste it on chinos. I also prefer jeans over navy chinos, since they work much better with navy tops, and the fading that occurs in dark cotton looks far better on denim.
If you feel uncomfortable wearing a sport jacket just wear it Every day you will get used to it and begin to be comfortable and you will look confident. My tan golf jacket is prolly the most versatile piece I own when it’s cold out. Casual and classic enough that it could be dressed up plus layers well with quarter zips and sweaters
I have a brown leather jacket and a gray herringbone overcoat. But I’m thinking of a third jacket. Maybe a black suede bomber since I look good in black.
Don't buy suede. Everyone keeps recommending those jackets, and while admittedly they look nice and are quite durable, those will give you more headache than you'll get pleasure out of sporting the garment. For instance, imagine you're going to a restaurant, and you decide to sport your suede. Meanwhile, you got caught out in the rain...and pum...just like that your expensive jacket is stained and you can throw it out in the garbage. Also, you'll need to pay extra attention while wearing the garment so...not to stain in in any other way. Sure, you can use protectors to mitigate the probable effects, but even if you do, there's no product bonification of full protection, and also...even if it does, you ideally want to grab your outerwear on a go, without having a 40 min preparation just so the jacket can be semi wearable. I think buying a jacket in any literal and other material is preferable (whether it's organic ||| synthetic), while you can use suede strategically. For instance, I have light brown pilot army tactical boots made out of suede and canvas. Sure they're kinda stained by now, but it doesn't ruin the aesthetic of the garment due to its military heritage. As a matter of fact, the more I wear it, the better it appears, as beat-up boots add masculine connotations to the outfit (those are military boots, which are supposed to endure hard-wearing). That's not the case with a jacket...you'll just earn yourself a nickname...such as "Stain". You don't want ballbusting.
Thank you, I really need to know how to use layering in a scorching climate like Cyprus in the summer. I usually wear linen pants with a tucked-in T-shirt and a light short open shirt on top. Loafers with no-show socks.
I’ve tried various mid range and premium brands of chinos, including RL and BB, but to my surprise, it was Uniclo chinos that worked best for me. You can specify a custom hem length when you order them on their site, which I’ve never seen for premium brands, let alone a mass market brand like Uniclo. Your sports jacket is really nice. I almost picked up a light gray one at Uniqlo the other day, but then I noticed something. There was absolutely no padding on the shoulders. I've always heard that a sportscoat widens the shoulders and gives a man (the Illusion of) a better build. The coat was OK, but it made more sense to pay a little extra for something that'll look twice as good.
I agree. Some summer sports coats look good with less padding but for the winter I would definitely go for more structure. Check out the one I have, it's from Brooks Brothers. The link is in the description
I have lots to improve on but am slowly going for my physical work wear to a more dress-casual for when i am out just to enjoy life. I am strong on casual boots but weak on dress shoes, alternating between 2 brown pairs and 1 black oxford. Where I am at a complete zero with, is a leather shoulder bag I can put some things in when out shopping. I just have nylon backpacks that would be equally at home on a hike. :(
Jeans and jeans jacket are great items when you know how too wear them. Brooks Brothers are not what they were in the past but I still like some bits and pieces. Yes loafers are essential, but some man wear them with baggy trousers that is disaster. Good salvage jeans with V neck and loafers are must. If a bit colder match a nice Harrington or short Burberry trench coat. Pea Coat is great too, long oversized coat is strictly no.
I know I'm late to this video, but what is your opinion on flannels? I personally love them, especially in the winter, and I use them as a go-to 1st date shirt with a Henley underneath, as I don't want to be overly formal and fancy on the 1st date. Thank you for your videos! I'm already upgrading my wardrobe, thanks to you! 😊😊
Flannels and henleys are extremely casual. Fine for running errands or doing outdoor activities, but I might recommend something more polished for dates. Go with some brown leather shoes, dark wash jeans, a white button down and a navy blazer or sport coat and you’ll be super sharp but not excessively formal
@@pensivepenguin3000 I appreciate your insight. The main reason I have that outfit as my go-to for a 1st date (especially in fall or winter) is because I like to make the 1st date semi-casual (usually at an authentic Mexican restaurant or nicer bar). I don't want to roll out the red carpet and go to a fine-dining establishment until the 3rd date (somewhat cliché, I know), and that is when I wear a button-down, nice pants, nice shoes and (if it's cool enough outside) a blazer or sweater with an overcoat or peacoat. Again, thank you for your reply and your constructive criticism

Except for a barbecue or resort type setting, do you think loafers without socks are stylish? I think boat shoes (top-siders) are a better choice for those who go sockless in these casual settings.
Hello im 64 years young. I like to dress differently. I like colour, alot of men are colour shy. I wear caps and hats now that im balding. So i have a number of trilby style ones. I once wore peg leg trousers in my childhood , and they are popular again in 2024. I think they are stylish. I enjoyed wearing flared trousers in my teens in the 1970s. Interesting video thanks.
You want a pair of shoes that you Can wear with literally anything? R.M. Williams Chelsea boots are the best boots i have ever experienced. So worth the investment.
I would also add a pair of chukka boots or some other kind of heritage boot. Boots look much more professional and stylish than sneakers but not as formal as regular dress shoes. You can find many high quality and comfortable options out there for a decent price.
Spot on. Boots can elevate a basic fit to the next level. I discovered Thursday Boots about 10 years ago and now own 4 pairs of boots, a pair of dress shoes and pair of dark cacao sneakers. Great quality and if you have smaller feet like me, they have boots and shoes starting at size 6, which I almost never find in these price points from other manufacturers. Their customer service is amazing as well. I had a small amount elastic in my chealsies coming loose and was a little worried but not freaked or anything so I sent them an email w/ a photo. They didn’t even hesitate and sent me a new pair - which I didn’t ask for but was very happily surprised by. But I digress…boots…do it…now.
Ah yes I've heard many good things about Thursday and I hope one day I'll own one of their boots. Their most popular model, the Captain, is a very nice profressional looking boot, much smarter looking than sneakers@@cgoebbert
I currently live in Merino jumpers during the winter, as I cycle most places when I'm not driving. I don't want to go full on suit jacket since I'm at university, but I do want to style fashionably. I was thinking that perhaps underneath my Merino (crew neck) I should perhaps wear a plain dress shirt without a tie, and some light neutral chinos, or jeans + trainers? What are your thoughts on this? I would appreciate ideas for how to style sensibly, but casually and practically. Thanks for the great content.
Nice idea. That could be a nice source of video material - evaluating fashion choices of fictional characters. “How to dress like [character]” or even “How not to dress like [character]”!
I got very lucky, and found a 300$ double breasted pea coat for 70$ usd., I have worn it a lot amd keep getting compliments. So its worth the price just know what you're looking at. I also have no idea how much more affordable sekios are. i,thought they were like Rolexs.

I’m a very tall man, 6’5 with long arms. Wingspan 6’10 and very broad shoulders. Are there any companies that you know of that’d fit me? Thank you for the videos.
I've lived in the upper mid-west most of my life, so being one of the best dressed in any room doesn't take very much effort. For starters, I DON'T own any "Hoodies". For older guys hoodies are one of the worst looks possible. Around here (Minneapolis) everybody looks like everybody else. The only clothing items you really need are clean, well fitting jeans, chino's, or five pocket pants. A few polo's, not golf shirts, a couple button down shirts, and quarter zip sweaters. Add to these, clean oxfords, a classy, understated watch, and 90% of the other guys will look like...everybody else. All the best...Mark
I live in the tropics so all this talk of wool sweaters and overcoats loses me. It is too hot to wear those almost all year. I would love an affordable style essentials for people who don't live in cold climates.... for people who live where there is humidity and extreme high temps 3/4 of the year.
Suede is a very touchable fabric, from a female point of view. However, be sure you have a dry cleaner able to clean real suede for an affordable price.
I cannot wear loafers. They won't stay taunt enough to stay on my feet. I wear oxfords instead in two different colors; tan and brown. I recommend owning a good trench coat. With a zip out liner a trenchcoat can be worn year round in many different climates.i just donated my jeans. I wear chinos, wool and linen trousers with pleats.
That's a color wheel argument since the dawn of time. Some people like it with a brown belt and shoes and some think it's awful. With lighter blues it's less drab than chinos and mixing lighter blues and denim is another hornet's nest. So many rules.

Yes loafers are essential, but some man wear them with baggy trousers that is disaster.
Good salvage jeans with V neck and loafers are must.
If a bit colder match a nice Harrington or short Burberry trench coat.
Pea Coat is great too, long oversized coat is strictly no.
Yes, Brooks Brothers got trendy and will never be the same again. Sad.
A sport coat with an Oxford with no tie on top of jeans as the entrepreneur uniform here in the USA
Paul James knitwear photos, well chosen. Great Made in England brand❤
all classic pieces, good video
Thank you!
4:20 literally just ordered these to wear at my cousins wedding 👌🏻 now the question is, do I get a navy suit or a charcoal grey suit for my first suit? 🤔
Great choice! Navy will be a better choice for a first suit
Excellent suggestions!
Thanks Suzi! Good to hear from you
Except for a barbecue or resort type setting, do you think loafers without socks are stylish?
3:22 i went to tie bar once. Honestly i wasnt looking for a tie, but i found myself in one quickly. Still havnt told anyone.
Hey, could you possibly do a J.Crew primer? The history of the brand, the classics, what to buy+avoid? Thanks
What about balaclava helmets, Tweety Pie ties, capes and ali baba slippers.....all worn at the same time?
Great video! Nice sports jacket you have on there! Link to the source, please...
Thank you! Yes, absolutely. I get a small cut from the sale too so it supports the channel for free :) go.shopmy.us/p-3385389
Hi great video what width of tie are you wearing?
There is no "Seiko 5". Seiko 5 is a model line. The models within it range from elegant to gaudy.
Help with tips for hot weather please.
I think a good fragrance is also a essential
Very much so
@@Gent.Z Would you like to make a video on that topic?
I currently live in Merino jumpers during the winter, as I cycle most places when I'm not driving. I don't want to go full on suit jacket since I'm at university, but I do want to style fashionably. I was thinking that perhaps underneath my Merino (crew neck) I should perhaps wear a plain dress shirt without a tie, and some light neutral chinos, or jeans + trainers? What are your thoughts on this? I would appreciate ideas for how to style sensibly, but casually and practically. Thanks for the great content.
Great videos recently . Could you do a video on the style of Nate Archibald from gossip girl . He has some really great modern preppy looks
Hey @Gent.Z , could you do a video on breakup advice? It’s a really relevant topic in our generation. Maybe how to be respectful to an ex, how to deal with it, how to move on etc.
Great job, 100% agree
Thank you
On special occasions cuff links
amazing video
this man looks so sharp
Thank you, sir
What do think of men wearing jeans when they are over forty.
I’m a very tall man, 6’5 with long arms. Wingspan 6’10 and very broad shoulders. Are there any companies that you know of that’d fit me? Thank you for the videos.
XXXL. Then a Taylor.
Try Spoke for trousers and jumpers. I’m also 6’5” and they cater for my long arms and legs brilliantly.
I don’t have too much experience with more extreme heights, although I am 6ft 2 and I think a video about dressing for tall men could be a good idea!
@@Videoone123thank you !
great video thanks !
"de facto" or default? I like your videos!
I meant to say default. And thank you
Inspiring...TY
I would love an affordable style essentials for people who don't live in cold climates.... for people who live where there is humidity and extreme high temps 3/4 of the year.
perhaps look for someone who "stays in the tropics" for assistance?
Wear linen or silk.
Wider and looser fits are optional
I agree. I spend all my time between Hong Kong, Cambodia, and Thailand… I wonder about this too 🤔 🌞
What is that octopus in the background?
Suede is a very touchable fabric, from a female point of view. However, be sure you have a dry cleaner able to clean real suede for an affordable price.
Obviously getting a lot of use of that Grey jacket you wear in almost every video.
Car-keys. Got it.

That's a light grey, not charcoal.
workout regularly and eat clean. you will look _WAY_ better in everything you wear.
Why would someone DM you for specifically 8?
More mid-grey than charcoal pictured there, tho.
That's actually a Salt and Pepper jacket, but gets called "grey".
I'm just skipping a bunch of comments this time.
Guys just stop going out dressed like you are going to the gym .. ditch the sweats for some mens-wear!
longines preowned from 1 to 2k are a great investment
Olive green khakis do not go with blue items, imo, making them anything but versatile for most men. Blue with green should never be seen!
That's a color wheel argument since the dawn of time. Some people like it with a brown belt and shoes and some think it's awful. With lighter blues it's less drab than chinos and mixing lighter blues and denim is another hornet's nest. So many rules.
Loafers. Definitely loafers. Wide footers don't have all the options in the world for good traditional or slightly modern loafers.
👌
😊❤🎉💯🙏.
Suede is leather anyway.
I don’t go anywhere that would necessitate humiliating myself by wearing some of this stuff.
Why are you watching a classic menswear channel if you don’t like it? Seems weird and counterproductive 🤷♂️
I heard “car keys” not khakis 😂
That’s how Brits pronounce it!!
Yep, same 😄. I wore my tan Car Keys today, with my Blackwatch plaid button down, and a pair of snuff suede wingtips 😉
Wear socks.
