**This materials list is for drawers that I made for my standard 6’ 6” bed. You might need to alter the materials if you are building for a different sized truck bed or SUV. Total cost for me was around $400.
** I recommend going to the store to pick these items up so you can sort the lumber and pick the best pieces, but here are some links anyways if you want to order online and have delivered or ready for pick up at the store.
    (4) 2x8 8 foot boards for frame
    (2) 1/2” sheets of plywood for top and bottom, you can go up or down in thickness as well.

I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up th-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.

Built these drawers about two years ago and installed them in my Ram 1500, with a 6 foot bed. They are awesome. The plans are well worth the cost. I'm a professional electrician and these drawers are great for what I do every day. I even got fancy and built my own bed slide type pullout on top of the drawers. Really pleased with everything. Thanks for the instructions and the plans!

The first half of the th-cam.com/users/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

I am handyman who works out of my truck. I built draws like this for my F150 about 6 years ago. I used ½" ball casters for the drawers to slide on. But I really like this plastic strip idea.
My drawers are still going strong and work better than I could have imagined. They don't lock but my tailgate does. And for "handles" I just cut 3½" slots in the drawers.
To seal the drawers I used construction glue along along with screws, and I also used chaulking along the seams. Then I used a garage floor sealer or the outer coating and just did each side of the box individually. On the top I added the traction shavings that come with the sealer kit. But honestly, I would rather have the top be smooth.
It's nice to have tools with you and still be able to have a bed to a certain degree. I have thought about adding a canopy to my bed with side access windows or sides. But at the same time I like the roll back bed cover I currently have.
Really enjoyed your making of this and the shaving of the beard was epic.

I love the editing! The video cut straight to the important parts and we weren't left there waiting for you to line everything up and get your tools in position. When you were ready to pop the chalk line, that's exactly where you went with the video. When you drilled in those screws it went one screw to the next without any lag time in between. I don't have a truck and I'm not interested in putting drawers in my van but I still like the video!

after much arguing back and forth with myself about the best slide solution. I have decided to use your solution for the slides on my kayak trailer build. I plan to have 3 drawers slide out the back of the box the two outside drawers will hold our fishing kayak paddles, floatation and swivel seats plus other camping gear. The center long pull out won't be so much a drawer but a rod and reel caddy that can be pulled out after all other gear has been added to the kayaks. We've had our kayaks for like a year and still have yet to put them in the water. So hoping to have this build done before the end of summer to take on a trip.
Thanks for the ideas from your video.

Love it! I plan on making one at some point, I like your locking mechanism, simple and strong. I did want to share one thing with you about bending metal in your vise. When I was younger my dad and I were working on something and we clamped some steel in the vise, gave it a couple swift hits-and broke the front of the vise off! We were told later by an older gentleman that when you pound on a vise make sure the force only goes onto the stationary jaw, not the movable one. Just thought I’d pass on that wisdom. Keep up the great work! God bless and Merry Christmas

    Very cool!
I've built 3 of these for trucks I've owned since the mid 90's, but none currently.
All have been treated, due to no bed cap.
I've used laminate strips under drawers and on top of floor.
2 were painted before ACQ happened, last one was epoxy painted.
I never used a latch of any kind (yours is very cool), I did add lighting on the last one.
2x8 is bare minimum for height in my opinion, 2x6, 2x8,and last was 2x12.

Great work, one minor nitpicky thing I would suggest would be instead of screwing your pull handles in, to use quarter inch bolts and washers through the wood. Over time screws seem to weaken, especially if you have heavy things in the drawers, or if the drawers get wet from time to time.

I threw away the Gillette razors a few years ago and took up straight shaving. Had a full beard ever since. lol

I used to carry a straight razor back in school because it was in a pretty rough area. Years later I learned that it’s actually used for shaving lol

LOL - Good one! Despite having Essential Tremors, I still shave with my Gillette Double Edge razor. Thankfully, the sight of blood (especially mine) doesn't bother me and I have a good supply of Styptic Pencils! ROFL

Very enjoyable video, I laughed out loud a few times , (my missus was lookin' at me funny, prob thinkin' 'what the hells he lookin at'?) and hey those drawers are great , so much so i'm gonna build some for myself in my F350 longbed and hide 2 x 12 volt deep cycle batteries in the spare 'cubbys' around the wheel well as well as a jump pack and air compressor.....you are obviously a very skilled craftsman and talented videographer to boot, thanks for posting this ;¬)

the most amazing part about this video is that his wife's bathroom doesn't have all of it contents sitting on the counter top in a very chaotic mess. Ive never in my 23 years of living has seen a bathroom that a women uses daily that's that neat.

Nicely done, at first wasn't crazy about the carpet idea but then it seemed to make sense for me. The plastic for sliding was very clever, will use that. Really like the locking mechanism, need to adapt that for my truck tailgate window too. That lipstick heist was great especially the recriminations you had to endure. I'm going to make it all from free craigslist lumber or construction throwouts. Thanks and awesome shaving!!

Great video, now all I need is a truck to build them for. You needed to rub lipstick on a different surface to remove the round indentation from the rod. A little common sense and you won't get busted next time. lol Thank you for sharing your talent

damn, that is nice! been racking my brain for how to do just this for my '98 Tacoma (still running strong!). i was close but this fills the gaps and anticipates design issues i hadn't considered. many thanks!
p.s. my guess is your bed is intentionally slanted for drainage purposes, which i'm painfully aware of because my canopy leaks...

    • @SCWW
      @SCWW 3 ปีที่แล้ว

zverina I have a 98 Tacoma as well, I have a significant lean forward after my OME suspension upgrade so I just put a couple drainage holes up near the cab... sure it looks like a dog marking it’s territory in a rainstorm, but I don’t have a manky swimming pool in my truck bed anymore either.
