      Right!!

    • @AnthonyRMaradin
      @AnthonyRMaradin 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      It's nice; however, the added weight.
      Is it within the vehicle's registered cargo weight!?
      Is the suspension upgraded!?
      Is a transmission cooler (if automatic) required on this model!?
      Upgraded brakes for stopping!?
      Tire ratings!?
      Etc.
      Will this vehicle tow a trailer or even have a 2 inch reciever basket!?
      The vehicle may do fine on flat roads. But add hills, road conditions like snow or mud, even the slightest off road use... and problems may occur.
      Just say as an extreme overlander, these are things many forget to consider.

    • @SirWilliamGoes
      @SirWilliamGoes 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@AnthonyRMaradin what exactly is an "extreme overlander" I don't think that this setup is anywhere hindering the vehicle. If it was sagging or something then I'd be concerned but they will be good.

      @@AnthonyRMaradin 2015 and newer models load weight capacity is 2700 lbs, this is well within the specs of its reach. I have a 2 inch receiver and two a 1600 camper and full car load on mine with no issues.

      @AnthonyRMaradin 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@michaelwalker9229 - You do not understand vehicle weight restrictions - which is one of many points I made. There is towing capacity, receiver weight and what the vehicle can carry inside. Finally, I simply shared things most people fail to consider. Feel free to have the last word.

    Love the build! I'm on my 4th version of outfitting my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport. My third build was done by my son in law who is a finishing carpenter .. so we built all the cabinetry like you did. And where is it now? On the garage floor. I built a place where there was almost no room left for me! LOL Now I have my bed and that is a raised deck to level me out but has storage under it. Now all my cooking gear and food go into a 'larder' that I can remove and it becomes my seat outside and cooking area too. All my clothing now goes into stuff sacks that can be compressed .. the sacks are also waterproof. Now for sleeping or just relaxing I have way more room .. when I pack up, the big Plano plastic box has wheels on one end and I lift it in and strap in down .. all hard items in my rig are secured. Hope you don't take offense that I may be 'dissing' you work .. it is gorgeous .. just saying what I ended up doing.

    Really quality work my friend. Add some access to the cabinet space from the left back/passenger door and you can grab items from outside the vehicle when you need them in a hurry after getting out of the drivers seat. That and some coat hooks for your puffy/misc. clothes on that 45 degree section above the water tank. That’s how I rigged “the garage” on my minivan buildout and it is a dream. Rain coat/puffy are right there after you hop out of the drivers seat depending on weather. Not to mention my rack and haul bags. 👍
    Also, using a Kreg jig on 1/2” ply worked well throughout on my rig, you’d be surprised how sturdy that stuff is on edge or even over a 2’ span when laid flat. Again awesome attention to detail and quality work brother! 👍
    Thanks for the tour.

      There are many things to consider before building out any rig. Weight rating of a vehicle, suspension, transmission, tires, brakes, where will it be driven, etc. This is based on longevity of the vehicle, safety for self and others, legality and insurance, etc. Just saying.

    • @AnthonyRMaradin
      @AnthonyRMaradin 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you know your vehicle's weight restriction!? Added weight usually means suspension and brake upgrades. Will your transmission, if auto, need a cooler!? Tire ratings!? What kind of weather, road conditions, etc. could you find yourself on!? Things many overlanders and off roaders tend to forget. Van and tiny homes on trailer people almost always forget.

    • @AnthonyRMaradin
      @AnthonyRMaradin 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ekim andersom - I actually found the max weight and posted it in another comment. The max weight includes fuel, cargo, trailer weight on the hitch and passengers. The other missed point by many is how does the build react in accidents. As well as upgrades to tires, suspension, brakes, transmissions, etc. that add weight. Add terrain and every pound counts. The overall handling of modified vehicles needs to be considered. People use vehicles not only specifically designed for overland / off road, but build off of these rigs for a specific reason.

    Cool build! I have 3 suggestions for her:
    -If you are going to mount a spare on the top go to a scrap yard a buy a full size wheel
    -Connect your car battery to your solar one. (Good practice to have a disconnect switch between them) Your alternator will recharge your solar. Also if your car battery ever gets low, you have a backup to start the car.
    -If you have time make a tent to go over your hatch, rainy or hot days will be better!

    • @SolidWoodWorx
      @SolidWoodWorx  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is not my car its for the customer i just did the build. As for your suggestions i suggested a dual battery isolator to the customer but she wanted the solar. The isolator does help with dual charging for sure. But as you said about using it to jump start your car sometimes that doesnt work because you need a battery with high cranking amps, these solar batteries dont have that. The tent over hatch idea would be sweet, but also with these subarus, for some reason they drain the battery when the hatch is open!

      There is a lot of engineering when doing a proper overland or off road build, even when DIY.
      How will the build react to a front and rear collision, as well as a roll over!? Weight distribution!?
      Weight restrictions of a vehicle, which includes the build, people, gear and supplies. Suspension and brake upgrades. Cooler for automatic transmissions. Will a 2 inch reciever be used for towing or carrying. Terrain and weather conditions. Etc.
      One mod causes a chain reaction of other mods, as vehicle manufacturer engineers design a vehicle to perform within specific specifications.
      Without proper considerations, not only is there safety issues, but also impacts the longevity of the vehicle.
      I'm seeing more and more people doing builds without consideration of any of the said examples.
      Eventually this will impact proper builds for the overland and off road communities, which I'm a part of.
      Like when building anything, the proper tools are used and safety is a must; it begins with choosing the proper vehicle for an application, not what feels good or looks nice.

      @@s.e.charles1332 - Where did I state or imply I that!? If fact, where did I state or imply I do not like the build?

    Nice build. Love the interior. Very well made.
    I wouldn't put anything on the roof though. That saves on fuel and you get a lot less wind-noise. You don't need solar while driving, you can charge your batteries of the alternator. Put the solar panel somewhere inside and put it on a stand when you need it (and point it to the sun). You've could have made the spare wheel well accessible or you can bring a tire repair kit.

      Or buy and install a hitch and get an after-market swing-out tire mount so you can have a full-sized spare on the back

    Love it! Do you have a website? I want to eventually do a build for my Subaru outback. Its an older model 2005. I like this setup. Maybe I'll even take my passenger seat out too.
