  • Episode #796 Today, we're building a storage system for dad's truck. We want to have it for our trip to Texas and not have to carry a bunch of different tool boxes. This thing is awesome!! We made adjustable storage compartments to fit a ton of different gear, and we still have room to store stuff on top of it.

    Love watching you guys work together, like looking in a mirror at my son and I. Argue like cats and dogs but an the end of the day we're both happy and calling "Miller Time". Can't beat a father son team.

    That turned out super nice!!! It will come in so handy for your trip and everyday use......great job. If you two get out of control Vicki can put each one of you in a roller compartment and have the whole front of the truck to herself!

    Great idea to help with organization. Having everything in its own area should help with having to hunt for things.

    Looks great. Instead of rollers I used 1/4” strips of umhw as sliders. If you park on a hill the rollers will let drawers roll out. The umhw lets them slide easy but won’t let them slide out on their own. Also keep the bottom of box flush with tailgate and tailgate supports drawer when fully extended

    I have the box part built for my GMC Canyon, but i plan on using angle iron on the sides of the drawers with bearings, and the top is the width of my bed just over the wheel wells. I have covers over the front cubbies. Will take pictures when im done and send it to you.

    Looks amazing. Have to be careful about pulling the drawers out too far so that it does not come out of the truck. What would it take to add a couple of drop down legs on the bottom of the drawers to extend down to the ground for drawer pullout support. One man could handle the access to the extreem back cubbie with the overhang supported with the support legs. A horizontal brace leg connector between the drop down legs would help with ability to raise the legs back up under the drawer bottom with one hand.. Sort of a lopsided "H" design. The support legs could also be made telescoping to adapt for unlevel ground area.

      Really good ideas, Thank you Gary. We may have to do an add on modification....

    Very cool idea. That flex seal should help keep things dry. Keep up the great work. 👽

      So far it's working great. Very "non skid" as well.

    OK now I have to admit you have me on the edge of my seat. I have been wanting to do this for a couple years now. But I don't want to use it for storage. I want to use it to carve out of.

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it could definitely be modified into a carving station.

      Cut out the sides halfway back, put hinges on with a chain hanger. Drop down legs on the drawers as well.

    A question please: How did you secure the whole draw system to the truck bed? Did you tie it down or did you screw it to the tub?

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not secured in there. We put the Flex Seal on the bottom and it's heavy enough that it doesn't move around at all

    I’ve been looking for a box design for my truck for long rv trips. This looks perfect. Not too complicated to build but plenty sturdy. Where did you find those rollers/casters?
    Thanks, Paul

      Honestly, we love this thing. We got them on Amazon and they were pretty cheap

    What thickness plywood did you use I want to build this setup, and how did it hold up over the last 6 months. I would like to build this for the bottom with little removable smaller trays about 3/4 up the side. I also plan on putting slide out flat tray on top for a pull out work space and storage for bigger items. Instead if the casters I was going to run 1 inch roller ball transfer bearings. Cool setup and thanks for the vid ill be using for my build with some tweaks over the next couple days.

    • @raphaelchicago9138
      @raphaelchicago9138 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah, I just heard when you were doing the carpet you used 3/4. I don't think ill do carpet as I'm too cheap but looks good.

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks man! We used 3/4" plywood and it's held up great! I'm fact, it's loaded down as we speak with a bunch of stuff moving from CA to az. This thing has been a God send

    Why not OSB for the top and bottom if it's gonna get carpet?

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not a big fan of OSB and this plywood wasn't much more expensive, but it would definitely work if you want to use it
