  • I am trying all the different solutions that Gear Aid Revivex offers for adding water repellency to your gear. I first used the Revivex Pro Cleaner on all the pieces to get rid of dirt and oils. The gentle formula is designed to clean GORE-TEX® products, synthetic insulation, and synthetic fabrics safely and effectively. Unlike regular laundry detergent, this specialized liquid cleaner leaves no residue behind and aids the water repellency by removing dirt and oils. Use this cleaner to maintain breathability, and as the first step before using Revivex water repellents. For the Gore-tex and my synthetic coat I use the Revivex Wash-In Water Repellent. One treatment with this DWR wash creates and restores waterproofing protection to high-tech gear including GORE-TEX® jackets and pants. As a highly concentrated water repellent, you can treat multiple garments at once. Just pre-wash with Revivex Pro Cleaner, add one ounce per garment to your sink or washing machine, then tumble dry. It'll add a protective layer to fight the elements without impacting breathability. For the down clothing I used a down wash treatment that will add hydrophobic properties to the down, then spray it with Revivex Instant Water Repellent. Need a quick solution to waterproofing? Simply spray it and other outdoor gear with Revivex Instant Water Repellent to immediately create a protective barrier against water, oil and stains. Use it on nylon tents, jackets, boots, hats, and backpacks as an easy, multipurpose waterproofing treatment. For my soft-shell I used Revivex Durable Water Repellent Spray. Over time, DWR (durable water repellency) on technical gear wears off, and the fabric gets dirty and absorbs water. Regular reproofing treatment of rainwear, soft shells, ski pants, and GORE-TEX jackets is highly recommended to continuously repel water. Just pre-clean the garment with Revivex Pro Cleaner, spray on this waterproof coating and let air dry. In the end I felt the wash-in and the Instant did the job well. I will probably add another treatment of the DWR spray to my softshell and see how it goes. Hi Mark, sorry not back. Been of the social stuff for a bit. There is a product called Neverwet that looks really neat, and I want to try it someday. I tried the spray, but the paint on stuff I think would work better.

If it’s a brand new item do you need to wash it?

I should be treated already so you are good. Just keep an eye on it and you will notice when the dwr starts to fail. If I know it will be a wet outing like a weekend backpacking and there is a chance of some pretty good rain, I would hit it with the aerosol before I leave.

You don’t need to buy fancy gear detergent haha. Just use dawn soap. You’ll be fine haha
