I don’t think you’re getting proper recognition for your mustache game. You’ve gone from shady ‘70’s New York detective to 1920’s strongman in a very short time.
This has been a good year for the channel. It’s been noticeable how you’ve opened up more to the wider TH-cam community (that you basically created) and you’ve been on a hot streak for the past few months. Great work!

Vivobarefoot Primus and Primus knit are great for the gym! Been training in variations of these for the past 8 years, also train wrestling and jiu jitsu, so it mimics the sport the most for me.
Keeps me mobile, my feet are strong, stable, and have great balance.
I'm also 5"7 160 lbs. so it was easy for me to adapt to them.
I have been running in Altra as well so it's been a good balance of minimal shoes and cushion for higher impact.

My go-tos for training are TYR L1 lifters when I'm squatting or doing Olympic lifts, Asics JB Elite wrestling shoes for everything else in the gym and Altra Escalante Racers for running. When it comes to hiking I wear an Altra Temp for most things and Salomon boots depending on the trail conditions/difficulty. I've been in love with the Quest 4 GTX since the military, it's an amazing backpacking boot.

I wear the Inov8 Bare-XF, the newest iteration has the wide toe box, zero drop and a very comfortable insole, and the soles are grippy too. They usually run $120, but they do offer sales and discounts to first time buyers. Their customer service is fantastic too.
I also have a pair of the Born Primitive Savage-1 I wear once in a while. They are much different than the Inov8’s with a 3mm heel stack, thicker sole, and lean more towards the support side than barefoot, but they are pretty good and geared for those who want a more traditional all around lifting shoe.

Vivo has been my go-to brand since a friend introduced me to them in 2010. They are pricey but I have never had a problem with their quality or durability and they easily outlast other brands. I have a pair of Vivo training shoes, their dress shoe and my wife and I love their hiking boots. That said, I also appreciate Xero. They are better priced and I like the wide toe box. I like to keep a pair of Xeros around for casual wear.

Thanks for the video Coop, I like real reviews about barefoot/training shoes cause some of them get too expensive. I used to wear Altra Lone Peaks and Escalantes, but they've gotten narrower over the years and I switched over to Lems when I wore the Altras out. I might give Vivobarefoot a try if I see them on sale.

I recently started wearing the Vivobarefoot Primus Trail ll. It's my 1st time wearing a barefoot/minimalist shoe and I'm really liking them. I wear them as an everyday shoe as well as a lifting shoe (including deadlifts and squats). I like the additional nubs of tread on the bottom of them for everyday use and they have a little bit thicker sole (than the regular Primus version) which I also like because I was afraid my feet would go into shock with the switch to a barefoot shoe 😂 but it actually has been awesome. I would totally buy them again, especially since I did get them on sale 😊

Altras are hands down the best shoe for hiking / trail running. Specifically the Timps and Loan Peaks. I tried several brands when I was trail running 100 miles a month. Altars inspired the most confidence and were the most comfortable. The one downside was the soles only lasted me 100miles and were supposed to last 300 or 400 miles I think. I still buy them and highly recommend them.

I wear my Xero Prio for weightlifting and cardio days. They're very comfortable and have amazing traction so my feet don't slide when performing glute raises or my V-Squat machine. For daily walking I use the Flux Adapt Trainer. They look great and are very comfortable with zero drop and wide toe box. When hiking I have a pair of Merrell barefoot shoes and Xero Ridgeway Mesh low tops I alternate.

I’ve used those vivo shoes for lifting. There are comfortable but there is no support holding your foot in place . Of your feet are at an angle or doing anything that will cause your feet to slide around, they will inside your shoe. Switched to the Motus strength and they are much better.

**Important note: Take your time transitioning if you never wore bare foot shoes** I've worn barefoot shoes for some 9 months now and took my time transitioning. (3-4h a day for the first couple of months and just light walking). Even though I was careful I did sprain a bunch of things just going down stairs and walking on rocky ground in the first couple of weeks. I 100% recommend transitioning to barefoot shoes but take your time, if you use them for the first time and go lift some weights you might injure yourself.
The vivo's are my preference. They have a 90 (or 100?) day return policy as well so you can take your time using them and return them need be. Thank you for sharing.

I wear socks when I work out inside my basement, spare bedroom, extension room, or recreation room gym. I wear garden shoes when I work out in my backyard gym or garage gym. What is far more important than training shoes is affordable but functional exercise equipment. When I participate in the United States Marine Corps Pull-Challenge, I wear very lightweight shoes made in China. Most shoes are already made in China. However, there are Chinese shoes that are extremely light, like shoes for wrestling or boxing. Very lightweight shoes are better for pull-up contests because it makes it easier to do more reps if you don't have heavier shoes weighing you down.

I've worn through several pairs of Xeros (well over the 5k mark) and the uppers are still intact. They really are a great pair of shoes, and I always recommend them to my martial arts students.
The Vivo's don't hold up. Everybody who has owned a pair will tell you that, so with the Xero's at half the cost and 2x the lifespan, you're basically getting 4x the shoe compared to the Vivo.
Vivo is a "lifestyle brand" that you buy cuz you want to fit in with all the other cool kids down at the CrossFit box. It's like buying a Harley, compared to a Honda. If you want something reliable for a daily rider, you buy the Honda.

I bought xero shoes 4 years ago for trail running (Mesa Trail). They're awful for anything without smooth trails or cold conditions. Their 80% like walking barefoot so you'll feel the smallest of pebbles. Also awful in cold conditions unless you normally walk around barefoot in the snow. They sat in my closet unused, 4 years later I thought I'd try them in the gym. They're amazing for the gym and that's the only place I'd recommend xeros. Temperature controlled areas with flat smooth flooring.

I work in construction and wear steel toe boots every day for 15 years now. Specifically because we lift and carry a lot of heavy stuff. I’ve been wearing some running shoes for lifting (only started about 5 months ago) but it seems so weird to not have toe protection lol it like it’s hardwired into me.
what’s the benefit to the barefoot style shoe? I have seen shoes that have wedges too assuming for squat. Is there really a difference between decent running shoes and the barefoot? I’m considering trying but am pretty budget conscious(aka cheap AF 😂)

Try training barefoot. If you really like it, and all you're missing is grip, then it's likely a pair of minimalist training shoes are worth the investment. If however you find your achilles is starting to hurt from walking/jogging/running, and/or your squats feel awkward and f'ed up without a heel elevation, then it's likely not wirth the investment.

Under Armour is my favorite shoe brand. I was a Nike guy for so long but I bought a pair of Under Armour they fit me better, last longer and tend to be cheaper.

I've tried vivo, xero, and lems. Xero prio neo are my goto every day and gym shoe, absolutely love them. I also have the xero winter boot which is awesome. After less than a year of casual wear, my vivo wore out fast and actually started tearing in the mesh upper where your toe bends, for $170 that's unacceptable. Lems boots are nice for every day, but obv not a gym shoe.

I wear all these brands. Question about the Lone Peak, though. Mine sop up water. Might yours be lined? Maybe mine are an older model.

Folks at work ask me, "WHAT ARE THOOSE?" (My Xeroes).
Don't care what they say, because my feet absolutely love me back for these.

Vivos are expensive but they last. I've got a few pairs bought my first pair about 5 years ago and they're still in use just starting wear down now .

FYI - the links for HFS and Altra are the same. You might want to fix that so you can get credit for sales.

I stopped wearing Altra shoes, Topo Athletic have a similar concept and are more durable.

Love the Lone Peak but the sole wears really fast. Topo Terraventure is similar - not quite as comfortable but Vibram sole wears much better.

Altras are generally considered to have poor durability by the hiking community. Super comfortable and light, but wear out quickly. Also, the latest versions supposedly made the toe box tighter, which pissed off a lot of their longterm fans.

Vivo has other shoes with smoother soles. I have both their off pavement and on pavement products and you can get Vivos for the mid $100s.

@GarageGymReviews , you should try the Tyr L-1 lifting shoes. The upper seems to be much more sturdy than others I’ve tried, plus they’ve got the anatomical toe box. I switched from Romaleo 4 to the L-1 and haven’t looked back

I was going to mention this as well. L1s are my first. I have pretty wide feet so majority if weightlifting shoes are a no go for me.i ordered half a size up ?UK sizes) based on comments I read at the time which recommended 0.5 to 1 size up. Tyr have come out with a new one which looks like the old addidas weightlifting ones I think coop mentioned. They look good. They are expensive though 😅
