Oh dear, you are a hero for giving this foundation so many chances to perform! I appreciate your efforts and time spent testing to give us an honest opinion.
Polka dot cheeks and nose are the Bain of my foundation life! I have tried dozens of foundations and getting one that doesn’t do this is my never ending quest.
I love the honesty of your reviews. We shouldn’t have to work so hard to make a foundation work. I know that after I do my skincare routine, I just want to be able to put on a foundation and it works perfectly. I am beginning to think that is wishful thinking on my part. Thank you for this review, you just saved me some more money.
It may work for you! For me, it just didn't cover enough, building up didn't look so good, and something in this really bothers my skin! It has so much potential...
Thanks for the lovely compliment, Anita!
Thank you for your very comprehensive review. I’ve been using Jane Iredale mineral foundation for a long time and I love it. For those special occasions, I want to find a beautiful liquid foundation. Thursday I purchased the Chanel foundation that you just reviewed. I was so excited to wear it yesterday. Well…like you, I really wanted to love it. However, it made my face way to shiny. I told the Chanel rep I have oily skin and she said this would be perfect because it has no oils.
I like a dewy look, but I hate an oily look. I feel this foundation is just way too wet looking. I had to put powder on to tamp down that look. It made my pores look large and I don’t have large pores. So weird.
Watching your video helped me make up my mind. I’m going to go with my gut instinct. It’s just not for me.
So now on to finding another foundation that’s right for me.
The eternal search for the perfect foundation.....I feel your pain. Thanks for such a thorough review!
You're welcome, Sandra! I hope it was helpful!
I love your detailed review on this … the foundation i loved for 3 yrs now has been discontinued, it was vibrancy by Josie Maran.
Im 60 and have extremely parched skin and that one did the trick plus did not cause my face to react in fact it is soothing on skin and you can easily sleep in it like it is skin care, had a med to full coverage and felt like skin as it didn’t tighten and pull, slight dewy but not too much shine, no sunscreen or fragrance, and the shades were amazing, much like the les beiges, more truly neutral than orange also no alcohol.
Need i say more? Cost was 40.00$ and lasted a long time. It just never had the marketing than some of the more hyped brands, but now it’s discontinued, it seems to have had a bigger following than i thought. Oh well I have to move on and start my search again even though i tend to stay with one thing and it never changed on me ehich i love and im tired and dont particularly enjoy the hunt in ulta like i used to.
I gravitated to 2 foundations which i thought would be ok. One was dior skin one and the other, les beiges. I LOVED the muted colors of the chanel!! Your absolutely correct in your observations of this, yet your having difficulty with its formulation. I got 2 samples and have only worn the dior today. The formula is EXCELLENT in not drying and not setting into lines and feels like not wearing anything:) but it seemed to favor where on my face it would stay and color wise, not nearly as good as les beiges. Tomorrow i will try my chanel sample and will see, the frustration i have is like yours, finding the right formula, yet not the proper undertone that only some have.
Anyhow, thank you for your in-depth look at this product!!
I had that foundation! On me, there was a good deal of shine - but it was comfortable. I can recommend a couple of things for very dry skin - but they don't have much coverage. The Westman Atelier fluid and the Jones Road WTF. I think you'll find both to be comfortable - but more like tints. Good luck!
I love the Chanel foundation ❤
I love this foundation, it’s my winter go to.
This is a great post - I really appreciate the time and effort you have put into it. Now to catch up on all your other reviews! X
Much appreciated!
You've done a great review on this foundation & I appreciate your thoroughness, especially because of the price point. I was thinking about purchasing it but decided against it after watching your video. I have extremely dry skin & like a bit of a luminosity, but not that sweaty, shiny look; this one definitely qualifies for the latter. Thank you for putting in 5 days too & trying it with both your sunscreen, powder & a primer/no primer. I also have a neutral undertone, am fair-light & have a terrible time finding lightweight, light-medium coverage foundations that look natural & aren't cakey & gross on dry mature skin. I turned 50 in 2020 & found that my face just started looking terrible with my more full coverage foundations, but I need something that has enough coverage to cover my sun damage & rosacea. If you have any suggestions, I'm all ears (I have the IT Cosmetics CC Cream & it's a bit thick & heavy for my liking & its 50 SPF sunscreen can dry my skin). I'd love to know which sunscreens you enjoy under your makeup. I have a hell of a time finding ones that work for me, chemical sunscreens burn my skin or give me a welted rash & physical sunscreens tend to dry out my skin badly. I currently use imported sunscreens from Japan & Korea & they're worth the price, but would love a cheaper alternative. I'm enclosing a list for anyone else who has problems with sunscreens, all of the chemical screens are (50++++): Atomy Essence50, CosRX Shield50, HadoLabo50, Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel50, Biore UV50 & for physical sunscreens, Etude House Sunprise50, Baby Bum Mineral50, LaRoche-Posay Anthelios 50 Mineral, Australian Gold Lotion 50. Keep up the good work.
Hi Lisa! My fav foundation this year is MUFE Reboot. It looks like skin, light medium coverage and great color range. I use Y315 which doesn't have too much yellow. For sunscreens, I have a whole playlist of things I've tried. Like you, I find most mineral sunscreens to be drying but there are a few I like, like Mychelle drops, Kinship (which is thick, but I usually mix it with other screens), Olay has a new mineral sunscreen that is good, but pricey at $40 - I think it can be found online a bit cheaper. I also love Asian sunscreens because they use next generation filters. Canmke is a new favorite for me. I find the Etude House Sunprise pills with my skincare, so I use it on my chest instead.
I love the look without any powder, can’t see peeling, loving the dewy look. Skin looks like you’ve just had a facial, beautiful & fresh.but if you’re not 100% happy then choose another.
I’d say drying is definitely from fragrance in the foundation. For the high cost I agree, something we use daily -foundation should be effortless.
if coverage isn’t consist then it’s not worth it.thanks for taking the time to test all variables.i respect your Honesty in reviewing this product.
May be one coat and concealer to areas that need a bit more coverage...?
I bought the Chanel loose powder since Lisa Eldridge uses and swears by it. Absolutely adore the powder. Fell in love and then bought the pressed version and fell in love with the powder too. Then I bought the concealer and it replaced my Estée Lauder Double Wear concealer which I was using for years. Recently tried this foundation at Holt Renfrew counter in Canada and loved the texture. Asked for a sample and tried on. O my God!! Such a beautiful foundation. Perfect coverage, radiant, I sent with the pressed Chanel powder. I will be purchasing this foundation on my next trip to Holt Renfrew. I wore for 5 hours. Beautiful beautiful!! Just need to find the right shade for me. ❤️
Good luck with it!
I've tried this foundation. Love the healthy look it gives. Beautiful foundation but not enough coverage. I wish it had better coverage with that beautiful healthy skin look.
I really appreciate all the effort you took to test this foundation & your timing for me couldn’t be better. Unbelievably after watching that I still intend to purchase it and your video helped me narrow down the shade to choose. Sorry it didn’t work for you....based upon how it felt in your skin I’m guessing either there’s something in it that your skin doesn’t like or it’s not mixing well with your skin care. Thank you for doing this video.
I'm glad I was able to help with the shade match! There's certainly something in her that I'm sensitive to, but I also had a hard time getting enough coverage without getting those polka dot pores....I wanted this to work for me so much!! Let me know how it works out for you!
Love your review, you are such a lovely person:) I like Vitalumiere Aqua very much! Lots of love from Poland:)
Thank you so much. Chanel is the only foundation I have found a color match for me. I was considering this one, but now I won’t. I have to say I had the same problem you experienced with this with the new sublimate foundation. Currently I am using the Aqua Tint. I also thought you could try one pump instead of two.
You are so welcome!
I simply love your reviews. So thorough and educational. I’ve seen a couple other reviews and one had issues with the tightness and she was in her late 50s. The other did not and she is 31. Thanks to your review I will not be purchasing. It’s way too glowy for me and my skin is very similar to yours therefore I’m certain it will act in the same way it did for you. I just ordered the Danessa Myricks vision cream cover foundation and her evolution loose powder as I’ve read great things about it. Have you tried it and do you have a review for it? Still searching for that holy grail. I also ordered the new Nars soft matte foundation( which is not a true matte but as the name states a soft matte. I can then place the glow where I want with my CT light wonder highlighter) as I received a deluxe sample and absolutely loved it after wear testing for 5 days. Still have quite a lot left in the sample. Can’t tell you how much I truly enjoy your videos. Hope you’re doing well and staying safe during these trying times. XO
Thanks so much, Lee! I have not tried the DM foundation - but I just ordered the Kjaer Weis foundation, so will slap that on as soon as I get it! I have the hardest time getting a foundation match with Nars, so I don't think I'll be getting that one, good luck with them both though!
wow! the work you put in! thank you! 🤍
I just came upon your TH-cam channel ... Thank you for a great in depth review. It has definitely given me a better insight whether this foundation will be any good for my skin type. Look forward to seeing future reviews ❤️😍 xx
Glad it was helpful!
LOL The S is not pronounced on the Les or Beiges. The last thing I need is a new foundation but always tempted by the new releases. The polka dot issue helped me to pass- that and I’ve been irritated from Chanel foundations in the past. The Water Tint is the only one my skin can handle.
I'm glad it was helpful to you, Marjorie!
Do you have a video with B30?
My suggestion is that you applied too much product on first application. You have way too thick a first layer which is pushing pigment into your pores. Build up with lighter layers. One pump should be plenty for your skin.
One pump wouldn't be enough to cover my face and two pumps provided very little coverage.
@@TheHoodedLidinteresting.. 1 pump wouldn’t be enough for me either.
I love this foundation. Unfortunately I also noticed that it does not work well with sunscreens. It did not look great today in combination with the Actinica Lotion. If I only use the Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream it looks amazing.
If I were you I'd place it in a drawer and maybe try again in a few months. Hated the Dior Face and Body Foundation so so much until I noticed that the problem was my daily moisturizer (Putity Philosophy). OMG right? The Chanel VitaAqua is just meh. Compared it yesterday to the new Les beiges and I wasn't impressed. (The old Les beiges was one of the worst foundations I ever tried). I wouldn't put any foundations on when you're using retinol anyway. Also try the Covergirl CG Smoothers (It works every single day, no matter how bad the skin condition is). Thx for the review
I had a very similar experience. I like Chanel foundations because they offer a real neutral undertone. B20 is perfect for me, even if it’s a tiny bit too light, but B30 is definitely too dark. Like you, after two or three days of wearing the foundation my skin got very angry and irritated ,Which is unusual for me. It felt like sunburned, and got so hot that I had to remove my foundation.l I didn’t use any acids and retinols for a week, Until my skin got better. I repeated the whole experience a couple of weeks later - my skin got angry and irritated again. This also happened with Chanel’s tinted moisturizer teint embellisseur… sadly.
Isn't that interesting! I can't for the life of my figure out what my skin didn't like in this one - but it went back!
Thanks very much for trying so many options. I wonder if the fragrance in the foundation is somehow different and could be the drying factor. For all your efforts, your subscribers can make an informed decision. I won’t be trying it. Have a good day!
I wonder about the fragrance as well...but the Fenty has a fragrance and that doesn't bother. Although, I don't think I've ever worn the Fenty more than two days in row. I was thinking it has something to do with "longwear," but thinking about it now - the Fenty is longwear as well. Anyway, I'm glad it was helpful to you!
I heard that undertone does not change but actually I was a cool undertone when I was 20 years old and now at 45 I’m more neutral with a touch of warmth probably from suntanning all these years, even though I have been wearing sunscreen
That's interesting. I find for many of us, it can be difficult to see our undertone. Especially if we have sun damage or surface redness in our face. These days so many women fake tan and want to match that as well...color matching can be hard!
I really like your honest reviews...we all have different skin textures, skin type, age etc, and finding a holy grail foundation & sunscreen is like winning the lottery. Why did you stop using IT cosmetics foundation?
I just found this reply! I used the IT for a long while...but you try new things and find thing you like better. It does have a thickness to it that I just "grew away" from. And I had to mix two colors - if you get the mix wrong on any given day, it's a bummer.
Hey there Beautiful lady 🥰 question : Have u ever tried K beauty? centellica, green tea, honey, mugwort.... So much to try and let me tell you after using K beauty products my skin didn't feel dry, dehydrated ( snail mucus) works wonders..... Please 🙏 please🙏 don't ever cut ✂ur hair!!! Love ur personality and Content so glad I found you 🌹❤🤗🥰🥰🥰🥰❤❤❤❤❤😍😍😍😍😍😘🤗
Hi Sandi CeCe! Yes, I love K beauty and a good portion of my skincare is K or J beauty. I have a few videos on my am and pm routine. My skin isn't normally dry or dehydrated, it's on the normal side (and can be dehydrated depending on the weather and my water consumption). I love Stratia Liquid Gold and a few Hada Labo products. I also use several essences (have a video on those, too). Not to worry - I don't ever see myself cutting my hair off. I got my first cut in maybe 10 months last month and was in shock about it for 2 weeks - lol
@@TheHoodedLid lol laughing on ur hair cut.😂🤣😂🤣 yes it's traumatic 🤣!! yaaaaay u do use K beauty!!! 🥰 I will watch those now thanks chica ( I'm from Argentina..... So I have Italian, French, German and jewish roots 😊☺
@@ccedwards7 Ah! So CeCe Bort is your last name?
@@TheHoodedLid Good day 😊 No... Only social media.... It's my mother's last name.... I'm seeing sooooooo many women bracing thier age and U were the ' Straw that broke the camels back lol " finally said F it I'm not hiding I'm gonna be 51 on Christmas age is just a number I'm going to embrace my age and 🙏 thinking about doing videos too.... Oh to answer your question it's Eddings...... But all my media platforms I use Bort Thank U 🌹❤🙏 for letting me see that age is nothing it's all about how u live ur life ( but I refuse to go gray...... Yet 😂🤣) ❤
@@ccedwards7 Thank you so much Sandi! FWIW, I refuse to go gray as well. Women in my family don't go full gray, so it's not a stunning look like it can be for many others!
I wish I had seen this video before I ordered it. when it arrives I am anticipating returning it .. too much water can make cheeks feel dry. im going to probably get the sublimage
I can sometimes have sensitive skin...so it might work out ok for you. It took a couple of days wearing this before my skin really hurt, so give it a few days before you decide.
What brushes did you use in this video? Specifically for your powder?
Brushes are listed in the description box
Oh my dear! I'm only a few minutes in, but I had to comment that you totally deserve to treat yourself to a new foundation if you cried at the dentist's. (Just FYI, several years ago, I had to go through a horrible root canal along with its horrible price tag and immediately afterwards I went to Neiman Marcus and bought an edgy Dolce & Gabbana jacket that cost as much as how much I spent to go to my brother's wedding in Maui for 8 days -- including RT flight from NYC, and my bestie told me it was okay after the root canal LOL!)
I'd had several D&G jackets if I did that! I feel like something is lose now and I am dreading making an appointment! lol
I cry at the Dentist too, but only when I get the bill! I only have the Chanel Les Beiges Water Fresh Tint. I love that one for the no makeup, makeup look. Is that the one you have too? The only other foundation I bought this year was Guerlain Natural Glow Foundation 16H wear. That one is remarkable on my skin. No dots at all for me.
No, the other Chanel I have to the Aqua. I haven't worn it in ages. I don't feel it gives me a skin-like finish. But...I may pull it out and try it again! Yeah, those dental bills are NO FUN! lol
I do not think that color is too light for you. Have you tried a tinted sunscreen below your neck? The old Les Beiges formula is probably better for you, as it is for me. You can still get it at Macy’s. 😉
Sometimes I use Australian Gold on my chest. It will cover my redness a little and give me sun protection. What's best, though, is....if you let it set up for 20 min it will not budge. I can't tell you how yucky my seatbelt was with accumulation of sunscreen on it ...and that meant that I also wasn't getting protection on my chest, because the seat belt just rubbed it off!
I have heard good things about that brand but have not used it yet. I have used some of the Chanel BB cream on my chest (It wasn‘t the greatest for my face but I don‘t want it to go to waste). Isn‘t it crazy, all those years worshipping the sun, only to hit 50 and turn into a mole! Seems like my freckles are merging! So not cute...
@@janine4360 The Bain de Soleil days are certainly coming back to bite us!
Great review 🌸
Thanks so much EJ!
You could buy the darker shade and mix it with this one!
This did not agree with me at all. Not sure what is in this that irritated my skin, but I had to return it.
The S at the end of Les Beiges is silent.
What color did you use?
20
You look like you ware a lot of foundation! I don’t so it works for me.. You use retinol and that’s notorious for drying and peeling sensitive skin!
Chanel foundations are heavily fragranced. This may cause the irritation and provoke the peeling.
It's possible, yes. But I was thinking it might be something that makes it "longwear." I have used other Chanel foundations without issue, so it's a mystery.
I have yet to find a Chanel foundation that I like. I am your age and have normal to dry skin and can be senistive.
If you have a tendency towards sensitivity, I think you might want to avoid this one.
What color did you have on in this video? Since Covid is on I can’t get color matched and am very close to your skin in color
Thanks very much for your response
Pretty sure B20.
In French, the last consonant in a word is silent...thus, the "s" is silent.
Thank you for taking so much trouble to do a thorough review. I think I’ll pass on this foundation. I’ve heard it’s highly fragranced which could be the cause of irritation.
I agree about the fragrance -- I was going to ask whether it might be an issue...
It could be the fragrance. I have used other foundations and skincare that are fragranced without an issue. That's why I think there's something in this that makes it "longwear" that might be bothering. But, I really don't know what the issue is at all, I just don't to made my skin dry and dehydrated. So sad!

You are so beautiful 😍 like in 30s
You are too kind! Thank you!
I remove dog hair at every step of my makeup everyday. Even though my dog is a tiny Chinese powderpuff puppy and can’t reach my makeup stash 😂😂
Co-sign! I don't understand how this dog has any fur at all, she sheds so much!
