    Definitely the best Hot Pepper tutorials I've seen... I've really learned a lot. I am growing super hots for the first time.. Carolina Reaper, Red Paper Lantern Habanero, and Yellow Fatalii.. It's very different than the sweet, and jalapeno varieties I've grown.. These Hots are very slow growers... I started germinating Reaper seeds in early Decembember -- topped the plants at 8 inches tall, and just picked my first ripe Pod yesterday..

    I am getting ready to start building this system, and I have a question. Why do you need to make a seperate hole and a small pvc pipe to add water? Seems like you could just make the overflow hole a little bit bigger and pour the water in there, and then use some kind of plug if you wanted it sealed.

    Where do you live? You have pepper plants that look like little woody trees that survived in the garage over the winter? And you have a morringa tree that survived outside? And dragon fruit that survived outside? I've never seen a dragon fruit plant - are these the things I buy with mixed frozen fruit at Costco and are purple. I've also seen things in Krogers that are about pear size and have a crazy bright pink / purple skin, and I think greyish kiwi looking insides with black dots? And these are surviving outside? I've got to get some peppers growing - my goal is to grow more than I can eat over the year if I dehydrate them. I like jalapenos, cayenne, and thai chilis - I don't need massively hot ones. I actually dried and saved some mix which included some roasting - not very hot - chilis that gave the whole thing a wonderful pimento flavor (well, something did). Anyway, I'd like to be able to sprinkle this liberally on my food all year 'round, in addition to eating fresh ones when they're producing, of course. Think I'm behind the curve, but I'm gonna get something going this week. It's early April. I live in TN so we can grow for awhile, but I think the plants would be way bigger and more productive if I had started earlier. Still think I'll get some, but gotta start now. We tried to start some - I'm having trouble outside - we got some tomatoes under plastic which I've removed but I think let dry out too much. I just mulched 'em and started watering them. And there's probably 30 or so - slightly sad looking but I think they'll turn around. Damn, I wonder if I could keep a pepper going in the window during the winter, that would be a cool addition to the dried ones.

      @TheMoistDonuts 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this reply is super late lol Your looking to get more educated in cross pollination. Just TH-cam a search or Google for big info on that.
      The just is planting 2 different peppers next to each other in a good aired and sunned area. The fruit growing will not be mixed but the seeds from them are possible to be planted and then possibly be a different fruit from the 2 peppers.
      It all basically goes through a generation. Lots of time and patience

    Quick question: do you pour hydroponic nutrients or just water into your outdoor, sub-irrigated bucket planters? I've seen a few videos where people used hydroponic nutrients outdoors with some very good growth results, and I've seen people put slow release fertilizer in outdoor containers and just water them with good results as well.

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once the plants are outside, I no longer feed them hydroponic nutrients. I switch to mostly organic feed.

    Great to see your plants doing so well Khang 👍🏻 , i was wondering if you could answer a question I have? I have a 4 year old superchilli that Iives inside all year round.
    I've heard chilli plants only live for so long, is that true?
    And if so, what would be the cause other than it getting diseased or not looked after well?
    I repot and refresh the soil every year and it looks and is producing very well, but I'm starting to wonder how long it has left.

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some pepper plants can live up to 5 years, but I've never tried it for that long. I think that's just their lifespan, like old age, and nothing to do with diseases, although that is a factor. Now, I have attempted propagation to keep my plants growing indefinitely, or so it seems. Each time I take a cutting to propagate, the branch becomes a new young tree. After a while, I take a cutting off of this new tree and the process continues. I've only done it for 3 season.

    • @antsantoro
      @antsantoro 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Khang for answering 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 excellent information I will try the propagation the next time I need to prune, I've seen your episode containing your method, but I haven't got a grow room... yet 😉 how would you suggest propagating indoors without grow lights? Keep it out of direct sunlight? Keep it warm? Can I put it straight into potting mix after it roots? Sorry I know I ask you so many questions 😂😂😂✌️

      Brown Dog slash and burn methods can be used if you dump all the soil out and burn the dead plant matter to prevent disease. However plants are pretty resilient so I'm going to just see how they do without crop rotation and building strong beneficial microbes to fight off disease for me.

      We are in the 80s already.

      Your winter is as cold as where i live, barly under freezing, but 80 already - that is like 26 C - a temp i can only hope for a few weeks midsummer. Gonna trie a few peppers outside in a "hot" sunny corner this summer, but i dont have my hopes to high with a average temp of 60F even if we have very long hours of sun.

      Make yourself a greenhouse or buy one. Problem solved.

      I know, had a greenhouse 20 years ago where i grew up. And i actually just got myself a tiny 6x4 feet Palram Hybrid 5 days ago that will fit here. Problem is solved, but i get other ones instead, like keeping it from taking off during storms :)

    What does F1 and F2 stand for?

    • @cricardol
      @cricardol 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TeamLight159 It means that it is a hybrid... F1 is first generation and F2 is the second generation.
      It also means that if you collect the seed of a hybrid... The plant from that seed will be different than its parent ( that is why people generally dont collect the seed from their production ... they dont know what they will get).
