I am using a Nikon D3400 and just picked up the 50mm 1.8 prime lens. You have a lot of great points and realistic photos I hope to emulate! Thank you for the insight.
With respect, of course you can use a DX lens on a full frame from body. I have a D610, and before i got my first FX lens, I used the D80 kit lens, the 18-55mm. The camera auto adjusts for the DX lens. It works fine. i have the 50mm f1.8. the image quality is simply superb. It really is. Tack sharp as well. It's very inexpensive, but the picture quality is second to none.
Hi! Thank you for your comment. Yes, you can certainly use a DX lens with a full frame camera and it will work. It's just that then you cannot take advantage of the wonderful full frame sensor. Kind regards!
Hi Tom. Love my Sunday morning photography lesson from Estonia. Always interesting and often a nice surprise. After recent videos about Fuji, mirrorless and post-processing here is DSLR lens. Fantastic. Picked up an older, used Nikon D300s this week at a great price. Loving the feel and handling so far. Too early to judge the images but I have found that imposing restrictions on yourself with the gear is, ironically, very good for creativity. It's like when some tutors tell you to go out shooting and only use a single lens with fixed focal length. You have to be more imaginative. If you have fewer MP's the same concept can be true IMO.
Hi Cliff! I always enjoy reading your feedback. Thank you! I've also found that restricting yourself to certain limited number of options can be liberating in a way. It helps you focus on the task a little better. I sometimes go out with 2-3 cameras a tripod and a gimbal and come back relatively empty-handed because I wasn't sure if I should photograph birds, film something or do macro photography. If you only carry a macro lens, for example, you just look at the flowers and ground and find wonderful photo ops.
Lovely photos and nicely produced, your voice is very soothing, I'm getting this lens hopefully today but being in uk at this time with postal strikes and all the other madness am not sure,. The lens does a great job on the camera you used, I have just bought a an Old Nikon 700 and looking forward to trying it on that.
Hi Michael! Thank you very much for your nice words. Nikon D700 is a great camera and I expect that it will work really well with this lens. Good luck to you!
Great video Tom! I'm considering this lens as my first prime for the Nikon D610, have you ever compared it with the older D version? Keep up the good work!
Hi Kevin! Thank you very much. Indeed, I have compared the newer and older version of the Nikkor 50mm prime lenses here: th-cam.com/video/1-SRtxxAVME/w-d-xo.html . And I have a video on the older version (Nikkord 50mm F1.8 D) alone as well: th-cam.com/video/4BU0xFxOTYE/w-d-xo.html . Kind regards!

I have the 35mm FX on my D610. I dont suppose it the DX version is any different in terms of image quality. (I use mine on my D80 when I need a really light set up. It works great) It really is a great walk around lens. Its is sharp and it's a great, useful focal length. Get a good used one and save yourself a lot of money. I did.
@@mikewilson8513 I have the FX version, I had the DX version before. It's not the same optical design. The FX version is larger and gives a slightly better image, but the "G"w version is good too.
Hi Tom ..most Nikon lenses are excellent..this one too..is the focus point at F2 sharp ( in focus)? With a Dslr you have sometimes front or back focus issues! It 's now a 75 mm lens ..and i hope it wil work on y X-T30.Many times i think how much better is the Leica summilux 50mm..it's about ten times more expensive! I like y video's..and waitting for the next one😉
Hi Jan! Good to hear from you. I find F2 plenty sharp, indeed, and I've been very happy with this lens. I'm planning on doing a video on how this lens works with with Fuji X-T30. Although I show it with Nikon D3400 in the video I primarily bought if for my Fuji because Fuji has focus peaking. My experience with combining Nikon lenses and Fuji cameras has been very promising so far. I'll keep experimenting.
@@tom_photo ..Yes focus peaking is a nice tool...yesterday i was able to shot a newt ( warming-up) in the sun with the X10..it was difficult due to the water reflexion..but in the end
@@janbroekema6102 My Fuji equipment is a bit more sophisticated than my Nikon. This is why for certain work I can only use Fuji and I borrow lenses from Nikon.

H! Thanks for asking. Typically these lenses run between $70 - 180 used at the moment. I'm seeing one on sale for 75 EUR where I live and it is in a very good condition. Rubber cover missing on the ring (this is how I understand it) does not affect the photo if all other parts of the lens are there and in good condition. However missing parts are often a sign of heavy usage or even abuse. Considering the price of $90 I'd personally not buy this lens. Kind regards!
Muchas Gracias por este maravilloso Video.......-tengo las dos Lentes de Nikon 1.4+1.8 y me Ayuda a encontrar el F-mas adecuado y Nitidez posible Saludos Juan de Austria Granada-España
Hi Carlene! Thank you for watching. Yes, this lens is compatible with the Nikon FTZ adapter. With this adapter you get autofocus support for your lens. I do not have first hand experience, though. Kind regards!
Hi Jacky! Thank you for asking. This another nice lens. However it is for Nikon's Z-mount, not F-mount. So those two lenses would not be easily interchangeable, you'd need an adapter. Kind regards.
The D version sucks. I have literally bought the G version because the D version is so soft and the construction is just trash. It’s the only Nikon lens I dislike besides kit lenses
@@villegas24The 1.8G has a focus-shift problem, at 1.8 it hits it exactly right, and as you start to cover the aperture, the focus point shifts (most likely backwards), this is all because the camera only focuses at open.
