      You just hold it in place with your hand. The lens isn't going to stay in place on it's own.

      How about something like this?
      www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Reverse-Camera-Adapter-Filter/dp/B001G4PA36/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1517247153&sr=8-4&keywords=macro+lens+adapter+canon
      It's an adapter to click your lens backward and into place. This is just as an example. Search for the specific body and/or lens yourself.

    "and then shoot it again with a 200mm at f/2.8"

    • @gwarlow
      @gwarlow 5 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      Rafterman Howard It was just for the sake of comparison and to reassure the viewer that a cheaper (less expensive) 50mm lens can be the better option. And if you want the $2000 lens, put $40 in your savings account each week, and in a year, you can have this lens. Cheers.

    Henri Cartier-Bresson used two focal lengths; he never used a flash; he hated printing his own pictures. And he produced iconic photos.
    When I ditched most of my gear and decided to carry one or two lenses, photography became fun again.

    I was young when I got my first, what was considered at that time a pro level 35mm camera. It was a Minolta SRT101. I wanted the Nikon "F," but it was just too expensive. I would have had to save more money and just being in High School that would of taken more time. So I settled for the Minolta so I could "get going." It came with the 50mm lens and that was all I had for a couple of years, couldn't afford anything else. So seeing a video like this brought a smile to my face as it took me back. I shot everything with that lens, from hand held night shots, couldn't afford a tripod either, to landscapes. Still have the camera, it is still in pristine condition, I took great care of my baby. And I still have my original camera I was given by my parents at 7 years old, a Black Box Brownie.
    You have inspired me, I think I'm going to retrace some of my steps and take out my 50. I will take some fun shots with the old SLR and a digital, just to see the differences, it will add to the fun. I imagine your model's flowing dress got quite heavy after being soaked by the sea water? Great job, loved the video. For me, the FUN starts the moment I pick up a camera, so I will get to my 50 soon. Thanks for the inspiration.

    I got the Sigma 50 1.4 used last year at the local camera store, and I took 3 50mm lenses to a park to photograph flowers. The Canon EF 1.2 L, Canon RF 1.2 L and Sigma 1.4. The only good thing about the EF one is that it's tiny, it would fit in my pocket, but where it's so old, it was not cutting it on a mirrorless camera. The RF one was a bit bigger, still lightweight, and much clearer on those R series cameras. However, the Sigma was basically the same, a bit better for bokeh, and the outside being metal added some weight, but it wasn't bad even with the adapter. It's the same size as Canon's L kit lens, the 24-105 f4. I used it for portraits last night, and it's great. It's not bad on a cropped sensor either, and that gets rid of some of the way the bokeh squishes in the corners. I used it for a porcupine walking into a sunset with the R7, and it was great!
    I don't believe Canon had their 1.8 out at the time, or if they did, the store didn't have it, but it would be interesting to compare. A lot of pros use the Sigma Art lenses, or swear by Canon's L series.

  • @RotlochStudio

    For the people with cropped frame cameras, go buy 35mm 1.8 which is almost the same as 50mm on full frame because the frame has 1.5x crop which equals to 48mm for cropped frame cameras. 35mm is awesome and cheap! If you do use 50mm on cropped then it'll be like 85mm on full frame, still awesome close-up portraits but you cannot grab anything but the face unless you go back. Have fun!

    since almost 4 years the 55mm 1.8 is my only lens. I love it for all arguments made by Jordan; I also add the extraordinary quality; combines with 42 Megapixel camera and an apparent resolution of 39 Megapixel (according to DXO-Mark) I have plenty of reserves for cropping.
    Plus: when getting a really good shot, I feel psychologically better than with my previous 3 zoom lenses.
    Almost as good as 30 years ago, when I shot 4*5 inch plate film.

      Phones don’t have mirrors and can achieve much faster shutter speeds than DSLRs. If you have an app to control your settings, you‘ll see it. My old iPhone 5s can even go up to 1/12000. That’s also necessary because it can’t close down the aperture, which would be a problem in bright sunlight.

    I have a question regarding which "lens" should I use to record my Art and Drawing videos. I probably Shoot overhead shots in my video and already have Canon 200d with the kit lens but the footage is not really sharp and crisp. I just want to increase my video quality with a budget lens. Hope you will help me out with a perfect answer.

    I'm assuming you were using a full-frame body. I'm using an APS-C. Still recommend a nifty fifty or more like a 35 mm? No native 50 or 35 mm prime for my Canon EOS M5. My Canon 1.8 50 mm with adapter is equivalent to an 85 mm. Just wondering...

    • @mikefoster6375
      @mikefoster6375 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Canon's EF-M 22mm would be a 35mm on full frame. I wish they would come out with a 30mm or 35mm EF-M lens.

    • @vrmaroli
      @vrmaroli 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      35mm is more expensive compared to the 22mm. Again size of the lens would be another decision factor. Also 22mm (35mm equivalent) seems like a better from a street photography perspective. Again most reasons given in this video apply to any prime lens not just the 50mm.
      The 22mm also has a wide aperture (f2)

      Do you mean 85 mm enables the photographer not to come to close to the model, avoiding to be too intrusive (useful especially now with new distancing rules), while keeping all the advantages of a 50 mm (fast, low light, not too shallow depth of field)?

    7 reasons why you can give advice but still take awful photos.
    Let's be honest; the only good picture that was shown was the macro shot. The rest are no better than a snapshot taken with your phone. I'm not sure what the goal of the photo op was--I'm assuming it was just for presentation purposes like for this video--and if that's the case you would think the photographer would make an attempt to take a decent set of portraits. But he didn't. Shame on him!!!
