Now inflation and the looming possibility of another world war seems to have caught the attention of even the democrats, but I doubt in time to install a national leader who can deliver us from this mess. The educational system in this country stopped working a number of years ago. You don't lower the standards for admission because of a year or two of a pandemic. You lower it because a decade or more back in time the primary education system stopped teaching the basics of what students needed to learn: reading, writing, arithmetic, science, history, etc. and went in another direction and started dumbing down primary education. Next the colleges and universities had to follow suit for both entry and to get the diversity mix they wanted. The whole system is broken.

Victor Davis Hanson has got to be one of the most brilliant speakers to come around in quite a while. I love all his lectures, and have them in my TH-cam library and listen to them almost daily.

Actually I've taken one of his online courses. It was pretty good. I couldn't disagree with you more on his level of expertise when it comes to historical matters. My college degree is in military history, done tons of research, and if there's anyone you can point to as an expert it's Victor Davis Hanson. He's earned his spurs when it comes to political matters. As far as I'm concerned he knows his stuff and backs it up with reason and facts. I must not follow him much? As I think I said, I have regard for his historical research and books; but based on his statements on current politics, I think he is out of his league. It is not unusual for a person with celebrity status in one field trying to import it to another field. When Hanson writes about a battle in the Peloponnesian War, he is limited to the surviving "documents" and any conclusions he comes to must be based on reasoning and thought. His comments on the current elections are neither reasonable or thoughtful. I am not a slave to the Democratic party and disagree with some of their policies and statements but agree with most and abhor the nonsense that is peddled in support of Trump. Hanson apparently sees Biden as a greater danger to the country than Trump; here he turns his back on what is happening. Trump would, if given another chance, assume the role of dictator - but perhaps Hanson, in his study of ancient governments, has decided that autocracy is the most efficient form of government. Hanson went to Yale which has been a bastion of ultra conservatism for many years; I went to two other Ivy League schools but my education did not end with graduation. I have made no assumptions other than Hanson's endorsement for and admiration of Trump is an anomaly. Parenthetically, long before Hanson became a supporter of Trump, his books and methodology were the subject of some severe criticism by people in his field.

I spent 21 years as an adjunct faculty member teaching accounting at a community college. I stopped when COVID shutdown in class format and we went to remote learning. Students would then take exams on-line and I found that cheating was rampant but could not do anything about it. Distance learning has further cheapened the quality of education. Colleges are way over built from a facilities standpoint making them overpriced. Text books are also overpriced. My day job was in private sector industry and when I attended faculty meetings I was surrounded by woke leftist full time faculty who looked down on us adjuncts. If you asked students who they would rather learn accounting from they would answer adjunct faculty because we did it for a living and could bring reality into the classroom. Higher education needs a major overhaul.
You forgot the part about far too many staff positions compared to faculty and students but you have to have them to fill out all the paperwork required by the layers of government sending you money.

I imagine there's many people that might feel the same way but from the very beginning when he got in the office I was thinking that he would quickly no longer be president, they would figure out a way to have him step aside and then have Kamala become the first woman president. Grades absolutely ARE being inflated. I retired 2020 from teaching elementary kids. Too many students in other classes achieved all A's. I did not have such a high percentage of straight A's even though I typically had the gifted cluster. Low and behold, come state mandated testing my grades were better aligned with report cards. My A students did not fail to meet expectations....as did some others on the grade level.
