I don’t hate this take. It would make sense for the gas to have some effect on price. It was rather unbelievable seeing him be unaffected by it when someone literally melted away at his feet

I think it might have something to do with ATLAS. We've had numerous AW additions - the BAL, the MORS, the AW AMR9 (via AMP), and even the AMP optic that looked like the AW Red Dot. The DNA Bomb - AKA Manticore - was developed by ATLAS, and Exo Zombies showed us that they had/have access to cloning tech.
Bro imagine they pull a Justice League and make Modern Warfare III (Infinity Ward Cut) making Sledgehammer’s version of the campaign non cannon. That would hilarious

Black ops 2 and even modern warfare 2019 did this concept pretty well. There's a logical way that they could have survived and you don't see them die so it's actually shocking to see them come back. With soap in modern warfare 3 this is just absolutely horrendous writing. I am astounded...

I think they’re just using him for micro transactions, but he’s still canonically deceased. Same what they did with Ghost, it was nothing story related, but they were using him to see how many would purchase the battle pass and anything else vise versa.

the thought that the cod seasons always add lore to the main story is not always true because in vanguard they had a season dedicated to past cod villains like menendez and rorke. does that mean they were active during WW2? obviously not. sledgehammer games post-launch don't progress the main story as much as IW or treyarch games. instead of trying to make sense of why soap is the main operator for s4 and trying to come up with conspiracy theories, i think we should just assume the safe option , that this is nothing more than a non canon special season event

the problem with that is, you can't have your cake and eat it too. Season 1 mw3 2023, they started with Nolan and how he escaped captivity to reunite with makarov, so they are showing these are happening to extend the story. You can't just suddenly back down in the middle of it

Edit: when you see Makarov shoot soap in the head the bullet hits the side of his head going through Soap’s frontal lobe with it exiting clean from the other side, it is possible to survive such a shot (there are even people who have survived it) but Soap would need immediate medical attention, stopping the bleeding and definitely a very very risky surgery and even if he survived it there’s a high chance he’ll go blind or at the very least become color blind since your optical nerves are there (also he’ll have problems walking again or doing anything) but all this being said they freaking cremated him with a three man funeral (not even a big one)
Very rare, to the point of being near impossible survival odds. Point blank, decent caliber, brain penetrating gsw with an exit wound and ofcourse severe blood loss.
I expect the list of people who have survived such a trauma can be counted on one hand and I doubt you'd need all your digits. He's most certainly dead. A d bo logic would justify his survival.

You're overthinking it ink, he's dead. The skin is more for the zombie players, which takes place before the mw3 story where he's still taking place in.
Finally someone else who has the same idea as me, I kept yelling at my screen over and over "it's probably something zombies related" or "it's soap from when he worked on Deadbolt which we know is cannon" the whole time.
It's got to just be zombies soap. For sure.
Don't know about that, Activison and Sledgehammer have really seemed to have neglected Zombies. It's weird to think about them suddenly remembering that it exist all of a sudden. They give the bare minimum to them and now it's like "hey here's a season dedicated to you guys"

So with this logic all of TF141, Konni, Specgru and KorTac know that zombies exist, fought against walking characters Rick Grimes and Michonne Grimes, with The Boys, Fallout and Gundam all being canon to the story now.
Maybe (I know this seems wild but stay with me here) the post-launch story isn’t a story at all.

Those machines in the background of one of the photos of Soap are literally cloning machines. COD has done this before so I’m going with the clone theory
I say it's a clone of him just like the zombie characters in Advanced Warfare. Atlas is confirmed to be part of the Modern Warfare 3 and in the background of that image with just soap, you see stasis tubes with bodies in them. So I think soap is one of Atlas's successful first attempt of cloning humans and is now probably working for Atlas Corporation. The reason why I believe this is a theory is because season 4 is reintroducing manticore along with DNA bomb and the skins are actually protective gear against manticore for testing.
Didn't they discover a DNA bomb in-game somewhere? At least I think I read that somewhere. But anyway, DNA bomb is Atlas business and Atlas also fucked around with cloning in the AW Zombies storyline. So my guess is that this Soap is an Atlas clone or whatever, since apparently AW2 might be coming in the future
Theories i can say for this Inkslasher:
** Since we will have COD AW2 in the future. They will try maybe to reboot to make a unique timeline. And we had Atlas Corporation implication in that MW3 Story.
**According to last informations we got, we will have Post BO2, Ghost and AW so maybe BO2 will be only retconned just a little bit like what they did with declassified with Menendez father's death in Cold War Multiplayer map ""Cartel"" ; and Ghost and AW will have a reboot to make everything in one universe.
1 ==> Atlas Corporation with their technology made a clone of Soap like they did with Oz in AW Zombies. Similar to ""Wolfenstein 2"" (game) with some kind of brain transferring to another corpse when William's head was cut and his doctor was able to do it.
# Remember guys, Atlas Corporation doesn't distinguish bewteen good or bad side, they love money like always. They are very powerful private company who can do ANYTHING for money.
2 ==> Instead of being cloned and with Atlas's help, Soap did actually survive the shot having brain damage, and maybe becomes a mute without his mask just like Jessica Mason.
OR since he was speaking in the trailer and maybe the mask has nothing to do with it, Atlas made a very dangerous technology with nanotechnology to rebuilt his brain just like ""Bloodshot movie"" with the soldier Ray Garrison.

There is the movie called "Kingsman" where the character Harry Hart got shot by Valentine in the head but got revived in ""Kingsman 2"" by the Statesman by injecting ""Alpha Gel"" technology to repair his brain tissues. So that could be possible.
I think it's important to mention movie reference to argue the possiblities.
3 ==> This could be just the only non-canon part of the story, it was just for marketing.
4 ==> This event happens before his death in MW3 Campaign.
5 ==> It was a double like Fidel Castro in BO1 since Ghost Simon Riley was surprised that Soap smokes in the last Mission.
6 ==> Price did blackout in one mission and everything after is a dream and he was in a coma state.
7 ==> It's weird i know but it could non-canon or canon, because Infinity Ward plays with Uno Reverse strategy between OG MW series and Reboot MW series where :
Gaz and Ghost didn't make it in OG timeline but the reboot one they are still alive. They would survive till the end to make them iconic.
Price lived in OG Timeline (the cut version is non-canon because it's a pre-release game footage ), so he have a high chance to die in the reboot.
Soap did survive till OG MW3 , he got a good development in OG MW series so he needs to die in reboot.
Graves could do a redemption arc and could be Laswell's replacement when we will have no support no intels anymore. Laswell could die in the future being captured, tortured and killed by Makarov.
Since we will have a MW4 Ghost in the future, we could have some kind of TF141 disavowed and Ghost & Gaz & Price being Ghost Team to hunt down Makarov, including Valeria and why not a Rorke cameo by her side to build a new set up for the future.
Non-canon in this case but if Soap is alive, it doesn't change anything he would be in the Ghost Team and that's it.
And plz guys remember, COD MW3 Zombies takes place in 2021 and COD MW3 Campaign is in year 2023. Primis Nikolai destroyed the multiverse, there is no alternative timeline anymore. BO & MW Reboot is confirmed to be in the same universe and they try to make everything in one line, not like before where dates doesn't make sense.

Here me out, but maybe just maybe Soap’s resurrection has to do with his time with the zombie’s team. Maybe they found a way to use the nova gas, which is a greenish/yellow gas that seems to be prevalent in soap’s new skin as a way to resurrect him with the only caveat being he needs that gas to survive thus why he uses the gas mask.
Also with the urn, that could be a classic scene where price, gaz and ghost know he’s not dead but needed a convincing show to fool makarov into thinking he’s dead dead.

So I've noticed that MWIII is slowly transitioning into a sort of AW prequel. We see stuff like a prototype AMR9, and we see the MORS and BAL 27. And now in the upcoming season we see the return of the DNA bomb. My theory is that there is some sort of time machine or some kind of dimension hopping gadget that was developed and now someone is gathering COD's best warriors or something of the sort. It's farfetched I know but a lot of companies are jumping on to this whole "Multiverse" train thanks to Marvel. Warzone kinda backs up my claims because we've seen characters from other COD games in the same battlefield.

Deep down you know they're scared to kill off any characters to they can be sold as bundles. I mean they kept Alex around just so he can be in 1-2 mission cutscenes. Every time a teammate got hit in MWII, the bullet "always hit the plate". It was clear as day they don't have the balls to make a franchise as solid as the original MW or Black Ops trilogy. When character's died, you felt the pain of losing them and some returns like Price in MW2 or Alex Mason from BO2 were actually plausible and not completely throwing away the script.

I’m sure this tied to the zombies story especially since the DNA bomb was tied to the exo zombie storyline and caused the outbreak in that game and I don’t believe soap was in the last couple zombie cutscenes so this could be what he’s up to during the MWZ storyline

I 100% hundred percent agree with you, and I feel the same way about Modern Warfare III, and the lack of continuing storyline throughout the seasons as you mentioned, it’s something that we have experienced through the previous 4 titles. Modern warfare/WarZone 2019, black ops Cold War, vanguard, and Modern Warfare 2. Then for whatever reason they just stop doing it in Modern Warfare III. Just like you I have come to play call of duty games and enjoy them for the storyline… without a cohesive and or linear storyline the game for me at least, loses its luster. The lack of direction is very annoying. In my opinion I feel like the majority of players don’t really care, and I think that Activision has started to pick up on that which is a shame because that’s clearly not the case for all call of duty players.
So, maybe it's just me, but this Soap looks really different than the one we know. The games tend to get really out there towards the end of their lifetimes, so maybe it's a matter of him being a Soap from a different dimension or some other bs revolving around zombies. I could easily see them going the Marvel route of just making characters from another dimension replace a beloved character, so that the character can be killed off yet still "come back" in a way.

What if its not seeing him die, what if its not seeing his body in general. He was cremated and his ashes were let out, but what if that wasnt him, what if they swap him out with a body double or someone who they can cremate, allowing soap to “come back” from the dead. Which means Soap was still “alive” his brain could just not properly function, which is possible in real life, a headshot is not always an immediate death, it can sometimes take hours before a person could die.

It’s sad to see the Campaign be dismissed over time because they used to be major selling points back then. Now instead of contributing to the overall storyline they contribute to selling more bundles and battle passes. The campaign used to be the major reason we got direct sequels but now we only get them because Warzone needs more DLC.

they don't need to revive characters to sell bundle in cod ghost they had 2 character dying from the ghost team ( ajax and elias) yet they still sold them also they made dlc for soap, makarov and zakhaev and they're all dead in their respective timeline
also in vanguard they bring back villains from COD and most of them were dead like menendez and al assad

@@XICrOokZz you’re literally proving my point, these games don’t have lasting consequences therefore making them dismissible. You’re right we never saw Graves enter the tank, but the plan was never to bring him back when the actor himself had to advocate for his return. Similar case for Alex as prior to Season 1 Mara, Ghost, and Farah were leaked to be coming as operators but no Alex.
As for Ghosts, even back then Infinity Ward caught flak for adding Campaign characters as DLC so just because they did it earlier over 10 years ago doesn’t excuse what they’re doing now.
Don’t even get me started on Vanguard, that is the worst example to bring up because that game made Godzilla and Kong CANON even Menendez, Rorke, and Al-Asad were also canon which I don’t think they even bothered to explain cuz they were ready to move on to their next game.
You’re right they don’t need to revive characters to sell bundles BUT THEY DO that’s my point. If they can keep on reviving characters like Graves, Alex, and whoever else “dies” along the way then what’s the point in staying invested in the storyline if nothing is at stake. Even if Soap wasn’t brought back from the dead how do you not realize the damage COD has done to its reputation that people were almost ready to accept that.

This is why I've always maintained that multiplayer/Warzone plotline has hurt COD campaigns immensely for a variety of reasons. Don't worry, the guy who got shot was Shampoo McTavish! And they burned him. And then since he was sad Shampoo got killed, Price killed Shepard but don't worry... Shepard wasn't in the office they just haven't gotten to that yet. Shepard will show up in Warzone as a new villain called "The Fallen" with le epic gas mask and augmented zombies storyline powers to glaze all over Makarov before Modern Slopfare 4!
Agreed, Warzone has been a drain on the stories of Call of Duty, and now with MW 3, I think they are showing their true wants. To abadon the story and go the Black Ops 4 route of only the Battle Pass and then the other modes like multiplayer and zombies. But that is just guess, it's just that the lazy campaign makes me think they find making one a burden in comparison to making easy money. But maybe I am wrong.

Honestly my question is who is hector? And what’s his relationship to soap and tf141 and what’s his place in this whole thing aside from getting capped? I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone else with these questions.
I think mw4 should show more behind the scenes like inside convo of missions more of the plan, per say like example a cutscene showing how alex made it out how the guy price threw how he survived and then soap how soap is back. And then after showing us how soap lives they can continue the story i just want to know how they all lived/survived.
They could also do the nightmare/coma trope, where what we saw was Soaps dream shortly after getting shot the first time. He wakes up and Price tells him you were in a coma after Makarov shot you. The Urn and ashes part was a nightmare on Soap’s part
Or another cool twist would be its not Soap in that urn but turns out that Roach was in the tunnel and was their youngest SAS soldier. Soap ends up showing up to the ash ceremony later… idk they could have put more thought into this cause now its just looks a bit sloppy
I remember watching this parody video by the creator Beatdownboogie in 2011, where Ghost has an issue with him not appearing in the original MW3. Soap dies, and he comes back as “liquid soap” this is exactly what’s going on here

if it was up to me i would do this as 1 of 2 choices:
1-soap has a twin brother who looks exactly like him(facial structure,Hair style, skin complexion,etc), this one is the captain who takes over john's place.
2-someone was able to clone him and others who died and is creating a secret genetically enhanced army, think of this idea like taking the ''Ghost Killer'' program rorke is a part of, and fuse it with an earlier/prototype version of D.N.I.(Direct Neural Interface from black ops 3) or atlas's exoskeleton armor's from advanced warefare)?
if i had to choose im going with the latter(#2) because it makes more sense narrative wise, price assassinates shepherd at the end and gets away with it, someone would take his place and might get the same ''Blank check'' classic shepherd gets and decides to get a private army under them, and now it becomes a 3 fction war(Price's side, Makarov's Side, new Faction's side)?
My theory is that when soap died and before he was place in the urn they took a sample of his blood and then made a clone of him (Because the whole theme is about DNA).

It’s not a plot hole, Soap is dead. These skins are merely being added for MP and Zombies - the latter dealing with a timeline in which Soap is still alive and the events of MW III never happened (or they happened differently). The post launch content of MW III on the side of MP and Warzone doesn’t seem to further the lore whatsoever this time around, so they could even add in characters like Barkov, Imran Zakhaev, Freisinger or Reznov if they wanted to. I mean, they added fucking Snoop Dogg, dinosaurs and furry blob monsters, so yeah, none of the MP stuff is canon. In terms of the campaigns’ lore and canon, Soap is and will remain dead.

I honestly think this has nothing to do with the story. Lately it seems like they only care about promoting cosmetics and because Soap is a popular character, they brought new skins for him. I feel like this is only a way to make people buy the bundle and not continue the story whatsoever

my best guess is that soap hasnt been in 141's missions since graves betrayed them in mexico, and that the soap we have(had) right now was a body double, still makes very little sense, but it seems the most plausible.

I’d say it’s either a upcoming zombies plot point that’s yet to be touched on or season 4 is a sort of flash back season but if it’s not one of them I couldn’t even guess what they’re story writers are thinking.

Literally nobody (except Hadir) stays dead. If they did, how would they get players to return for the next installment to see what *really* happened to those characters?
