Agreed. Although, I would also add Leonardo Di Caprio, in Catch Me if you Can, and Timothée Chalamet, in Call Me by Your Name. Chalamet looked so young in that film that I was disturbed when I first watched the trailer.

I'm rewatching Dawson's Creek, I'm just flabagasted by how they constantly remind us the characters are 15. ......all where 20. And that was season 1
I've never had a problem with people deaging the actors as long as it's convincing I'm all right with it. Like Will Smith In Gemini man they essentially took me back to the fresh Prince of Bel-Air with that one if he was into more dramatic roles at the time. But if it looks weird then no thank you. And to your point about just adding random actors to younger roles, the first thing that comes up is Spider-Man. A lot of people had problems with Tobey Maguire and trying to believe he's a high schooler turned superhero. Of course people love him now because he's such a iconic version of Spidey but people still critique it still to this day
Flash Thompson played by Joe Manganiello was worse than Peter. Some yoked out dude that belongs on Venice Beach shouldn't be bullying high school "kids." 😂💁🏻♀️

People threw a fit when Toby was Spider-Man because he wasn't under 18 then when they get an actor under 18 the same people threw a fit again. You just can't please some people.
I think they were more upset the 2nd time because most Spidey fans would like to see an adult Spider-Man rather than having him being perpetually trapped as a high school student in live-action.
Lewis has always reminded me of my favorite uncle, appearance & personality . He’s a Vietnam vet and hearing him go on these types of tangents is fantastic.
This reminds me of the movie scene with Steve Buscemi playing a character that was pretending to be a high school student that down and hip with the kids.

If we can alter the face enough to de-age an actor, might as well as well put their face on a younger body double. We do it when you need the actor to play two people in the same scene.

@@nikolnolastname4473 it's a solution I think would allow for a Back to the Future follow-up movie and allow Michael J Fox to still be in it despite his disability. After that awesome deep fake with Tom Holland, I would cast him as Marty Jr and be the films main protagonist. We can have Fox as he is in the present and when Holland goes to the past and meets his father, he can play as Fox's body double (or someone of similar hieght and build) and a de aged cgi face can be superimposed with Fox dubbing his lines. It's tricky but with today's technology they could probably pull it off.

The only thing I want to point out is that PEN15 was created by Anna Konkle and Maya Erskine (the two main actors) and is based on their real-life middle school experiences. I am pretty sure it was an intentional creative choice for them to play themselves, especially since it's a comedy.

I just realized, me and Ben Platt are the same age. But I went bald at age 18 due to medical side effects. Also, which is worse, casting older actors as younger actors, or having early 20s actors play middle aged people? (Granted the last time I remember this happening was the actress who played Lois Lane in Superman Returns was 22, yet Lois was canonically like in her 40s or 50s.

My gripe is that they do this on actors we've seen for a long time. Like they tried to de-age Will Smith and RDJ to how they looked in the 90s. Dude we can watch Fresh Prince or Soapdish or Back to School and see what you looked like. And Sam Jackson? You've hardly changed since the first Coming to America, you think a few less wrinkles and a wig it going to make us forget.
