  • National Bible Week falls every year on the week of Thanksgiving. First declared by President Franklin Roosevelt in 1941, National Bible Week celebrates the reading of the best-selling book of all time and encourages participants to read the scriptures and share their faith and favorite bible verses with fellow followers.
In this collection of rants, Lewis analyzes the differences between the Jewish and Christian Bibles, the separation of church and state, and the Ark Encounter "life-size" Noah's Ark/Creation Museum in Williamstown, KY. Special appearances by Adam, Eve, the snake, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Jesus, and the Leviticus litany of who begat whom.

Tax exemptions for religious institutions means they don't have to support National Defense, local police, fire departments, etc. but they surely benefit from them. Guess who picks up the tab.

Many churches are also actively promoting political candidates, which is supposed to be illegal. Trying to influence voters to elect people who will promote their religious values through laws for our society is an attempt to force their doctrine upon us all.

    • @davebeach2343
      @davebeach2343 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

@@rsteeb For the same reason it's almost impossible to elect an atheist to any national office, religion has become a litmus test for the populace. The people in position to check the ever expanding power of religion won't do so because they fear losing office and the backlash that would inevitably follow the announcement of an investigation of a religious organizations practices. The persecution complex would reach heights never seen before. I wish there were methods for an ordinary citizen to pressure the legal system into investigating what appear to be obvious violations of the law, but the system doesn't work like that

Since you're kind enough to warn others I assume that you don't share their limited view on life. How do you keep going? Is it just a matter of keeping your head down and moving forward? I have been in situations where I know I don't fit in, like having to attend Pentecostal church services for a week and a half by our care givers while our parents were on vacation. Even at the age of 11 I knew that I didn't belong there, didn't share their thinking.

Went to nothing but Catholic schools in Texas (college was my first time out of them), read every single book in the Bible, had to write frickin' research papers about it during high school.
And yes, I am an atheist for it, have been left permanently damaged by the experience, and I *love* using the Bible against evangelicals because nothing infuriates evangelicals more than someone who actually knows what is in the Bible (it easily surpasses their antisemitism, Islamaphobia, and gay-bashing).

If you're interacting with a person who's an antisemitic, they aren't are a real evangelical. Same for an Islamaphobic person.
Telling someone that the Bible says (and it does, since you've read it,) that people whom pursue homosexuality as a lifestyle probably aren't going to heaven, isn't gay-bashing.

@@theonlytruetuhlulah9062 Thank you for proving my point. What's next, you going to through the same single verse from Leviticus, all while leaving out how the first 18 verses of the chapter it is from pertain to spelling out all kinds of incest? Or how in the next chapter over, it states, "do not put on a garment woven with two different kinds of thread"? And I find it funny how evangelicals always quote the Old Testament while, outside of Revelations, taking only one or two verses out of anywhere in the New Testament and always out of context.
How about you crack open that Bible for once - you know, that book that's been sitting around collecting dust for many years now? At the very least, doing so will let the bats out. I'd then suggest you read and compare it to the Torah or the Quran, but you'd probably burn those before you'd ever contemplate reading them.

@@theonlytruetuhlulah9062 Oh, and one last detail that you probably didn't know, the last book of the Bible was estimated to have been written around 200 AD, while the very first Bible ever compiled - yes, *compiled* - was in 400 AD, and that is after they spent years poorly translating every book selected into Latin.
You can get any book to say anything, especially when you have pretty big language barriers to help hide what was originally written - after it had already been altered and changed over centuries of oral tradition before finally being written down.

Was taught the Bible at the same time I was watching Wild Kingdom with my mom (a naturalist)...My challenging questions to my Sunday school teacher regarding the story of Noah alone, she finally threw up her arms told me it's a matter of faith. My next statement was in regard to Santa, the Easter Bunny and tooth fairy my disappointment and loss of faith I held in my folks when I discovered fantasy vs reality. She asked me to leave her class. The following reality based discussions with my mother were fascinating...in a nutshell, she told me the more I exposed myself to various experiences, question what I'm told the more you learn to discern fantasy (ie misinformation) and reality, the more faith you will develop in yourself and your ability to function in the real world. To say I was a gadfly throughout my public education would be an understatement. By the time passed both my folks passed, pain in the ass that I presented, I actually had learned a thing or two from them, perhaps as important they actually learned a thing or two from me.

Later in my teens my mother chose religion over family by joining the JWs. Sure she was there and kind but not willing to be a truely active participant in my journey through youth. Truth of the matter is religion is a crutch for the indoctrinated, weak- minded individuals who lack the mental toughness, intelligence, and fortitude to succeed in a challenging and often harsh world. If you think some higher being is there like a big brother watching over you then maybe you won't crumple under adversity or succumb to temptation. Of course the later is laughable because religious individuals are some the most hypocritical individuals. Whether you are grossly overweight, promiscuous, debt-ridden, lazy, etc. you are always forgiven for such sins/indiscretions so there is less guilt. All I have to say is what a crock of shit. There was a Zipline on the grounds so they could go zipping for Jesus. They had a phenomenal garden so everyone could see what the actual Garden of Eden looked like for Adam & Eve. Christian mythology was just plagiarized from early works like Sumerian and other Middle Eastern and Indian cultures, and the names were changed (notice all the similarities for example between Krishna and Christ). The flood stories were all told in the Epic of Gilgamesh, as well as many other culture's stories long before anyone dreamed up any of the Judeo-Christian ideologies. Then, the church spent centuries retconning the stories anyway.

I remember back in the 1960s they taught "the Bible as literature" in public school. It was clear that mentioning that it was full of supernatural nonsense would have gotten me suspended. So, teaching "Lady Chatterly's Lover" as literature should be just fine. Ideas are innocent, right?

5:10 More decades ago than I can count, I had a small book from Readers Digest composed of bits from the magazine. One was a quiz where you were given a quote, and required to identify whether it was from the Bible, Shakespeare, or Confucius. Admittedly, I was much younger then _(much_ younger!), but, even though I recognized most of the quotes, I didn't exactly score brilliantly. So, it's nothing new.

Polynesian Bahai? There could be such a thing but the Bahai faith came out of Iran and they believe in two prophets who succeeded Jesus and Muhammad. The first was some mullah called 'the Bab' (the Gate) and the last (thus far) was a mullah named Bah'alluah. Like many other religions they're expecting another guy to come. I'm just some renegade Tantrik Yogi with strong mystic and metaphysical leanings, thus, an empathy and affection for all of us who follow the inner path. (By the way, Lew, you do some mighty find preachifying yourself and I've enjoyed harkening to your words for quite some years now. God bless you, brother.

11:53 - it's actually about 45 minutes away in Williamstown KY. It gets totally confused with the Creation Museum located in Petersburg KY which is closer to Covington KY. Covington is more notable for its Living Meth Museum which you can view any time day or night just by driving down Madison Ave and any of its side streets. Wind your way around to Newport KY and you'll have seen enough human wreckage to scare your kids away from drug use of any kind. A better teaching moment and no time wasted on make-believe scam attractions like the Ark and Creation Museum.
