    I bought a $4 dollar no brand penny board a few days ago and I'm still learning to ride it, I've been able to push and get on it with both feet without falling and also being able to turn left and right by leaning just from practicing in my room on the carpet and in the living room of my apartment which is wide enough to practice on but not long enough to fully practice on, but I'm thankful I found your videos, it's really giving me the confidence and knowledge to continue learning how to ride my board. Hopefully 1 day it becomes second nature to me

    Thank you so much for not sounding cocky/pretentious or tired while explainin because that kinda discouraged me even tho it did help me make my mind and I am still gonna buy it toda(Yay!). You were SO much more helpful and I'm very grateful for it. Like, really really. And I get it, that the other dude already knew it all but it was also pretty obvious that he himself didn't enjoy riding a pennyboard, but your excitement is easy to pick and how you want others to experience it too, and that is exactly why I wanted to learn: The fun and the traveling, also feeling the wind in my face (I have always loved that) while watching yhe scenery. So let's hope I don't fall too much because I don't wanna get too scared but oh well, that's how we learn everything, don't we? And I like the metaphor of falling and getting up and not giving up, keep on trying 'til we can enjoy the ride just like with life.
    Wish me luck! x

    • @TheTylerRossmann
      @TheTylerRossmann  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yo Suki, I appreciate your comment a ton! It always is exciting for me to hear when someone gets their first Penny board and begins to ride. I was at the point one time so I get it can be scary to fall (and trust me I have had my fair share of falls while riding). The metaphor you mentioned about getting back up each time is great; that's how we learn, grow, and get better. So I definitely wish you the best, and have a BLAST with it too!

    • @TheTylerRossmann
      @TheTylerRossmann  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      For sure!
      There’s 3 ways you can slow down/stop:
      1) Hop off (kinda like the bail at the end), which is the easiest to do.
      2) Carve/ride out your speed by turning back-and-forth till you slow down (works best on flat ground)
      3) Drag your back foot on the ground beside you (which is the most challenging because it requires the most balance). This method will also wear out the sole of your shoe over time.

    Nice video! Does your front foot ever start to cramp during a ride?

    • @TheTylerRossmann
      @TheTylerRossmann  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does not; if yours is cramping, it's most likely due to you clenching your toes/foot while you ride. Slowly work on riding while being more relaxed in your stance

  • @karabomathekga649
    @karabomathekga649 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I learnt how to ride in a day with penny board....teach someone who's learning how to control the board because when I was riding I noticed that when I try to push the board will just turn on It's own before one would even put his second leg on

    • @TheTylerRossmann
      @TheTylerRossmann  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If you are turning as you push, that means your front foot is putting pressure on either the left or right side of the board when you’re pushing (I.e. your foot is not likely centered). If you keep your front foot in the middle of the board facing forward, you shouldn’t run into that problem

  • @fortisetlenisstudios3352

    I just bought my first Penny board at Zumiez today. I prefer to do board cruising with great turning and smooth wheels. I use to skateboard, but I didn't like having to deal with rough wheels. I never learned how to do any tricks (besides an ollie) so there wasn't much to use with the skateboard. And cruising on it is not that good with bad bearings.

    • @TheTylerRossmann

    • @TheTylerRossmann

    Do you think a penny board is ideal for not so smooth roads? Also, how do you deal with rounded speed bumps? Thanks!

    • @TheTylerRossmann
      @TheTylerRossmann  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend a nickel board over a Penny board for going over un-smooth/bumpy surfaces. The wheels are further apart opposed to the Penny board, and the nickel also has a larger surface area (meaning you’ll be more stable on a nickel board)

      I would recommend avoiding all those things when you’re first starting at as you’re extremely likely to fall (and fall hard potentially). If you’re in a spot with them, the best thing to do is kind of jump yourself up (slightly) when you go over a crack. For a speed bump, it’s about shifting your weight to go a little lower (aka have more knee bend). For curbs, it’s similar to going over a crack, where you want to kind of jump yourself up a little (again, not the board - jump your body) to allow the board to continue to move forward

    Overall great video, but I think he forgot to mention how to stop when riding besides bailing, you are not gonna bail every time you want to stop, so is there a correct and easy way to stop besides stepping with one foot on ground because it destroys the sole of the shoes pretty quickly, and I am a beginner so I have a small fear of pushing the tail to stop the board because I am still learning how to distribute my weight between tail and front side of the board.

    • @TheTylerRossmann
      @TheTylerRossmann  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment Shokha!
      This video is geared towards beginners who usually don’t go that fast because they are learning the basics (so I recommend reducing speed and stepping off like I did throughout the video).
      You are also correct; there are other ways to stop on your board, but those are mostly for intermediate riders who feel comfortable going faster (which gives me an idea to make another video)!
      Generally, I don’t recommend the tail drag because the tail on a Penny Board is way too small to do this without falling. I also don’t recommend the toe drag because it destroys your shoe & you have a higher likelihood of falling if you are not balanced well.
      I would recommend “pumping the break” as a means to get off where you slow down by putting a foot to the ground then brining it up (then repeat).

    • @TheTylerRossmann
      @TheTylerRossmann  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only question you need to ask yourself is: how often do you travel? If you like to visit other places and plan on bringing your board, get the 22inch. If you don’t travel often or think you’ll only want to cruises around your current area/neighborhood, the 27inch Nicke Board is my best recommendation. It’s got a larger surface area, better turning/carving & still has good speed

    • @TheTylerRossmann
      @TheTylerRossmann  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to say what wrong, but it’s not a rider issue (I.e you’re only shifting hyoid weight one way), then it will most likely be tight trucks and/or tight wheels

      @TheTylerRossmann  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It always comes down to experience & comfortability.
      If you have previous riding experience, any Penny skateboard should be just fine. If you don’t have an previous experience, however, I would recommend the 27-inch Nickel or 36-inch longboard (if you only want to cruise) as those are the most stable.
      If you’d want to learn tricks, the 32-inch skateboard would be a better pick then

    • @TheTylerRossmann
      @TheTylerRossmann  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine is a 22inch. It doesn’t matter that much about your age; more so about your riding experience. If you’re a new rider, I’d typically recommend the 27inch because of the larger surface area (which means you’ll be more stable). If you plan on traveling a lot with your board though, I’d recommend the 22inch because it’s easier to fit in a backpack.

      If its not a problem with the board (a cheap one with crappy trucks) then you need to steer the board with small movements to stay straight as you may be leaning to one side, too much toes or heals.

      A Penny board can hold up to 220lbs (100kg). If you’re referring to a regular skateboard where you can do ollies, etc., the main difference will be in the deck size (surface area of the board). It might be a little different feet position because it’s smaller, but having familiarity with riding helps overall. Also, the wheels will most likely be larger on your Penny, which means cruising may be smoother

      @TheTylerRossmann  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree with taking a breath! If you’re still having trouble, I’d recommend taking your board inside onto either carpet or grass (so it won’t move on you). Stand on it, and practice the pivot here from a stationary sport. Once you get the physically feeling of this down, try it again on a flat surface

      Progress slowly with rising steeper hills. I was nervous the first time just like everyone else. But working your way up to slightly larger hills builds confidence, and if you keep doing it, you’ll be able to ride hills better.
