This IS a totally different animal... So glad I am "ready" to "hear" this! Her, Salvant and Elling are pushing the envelope and it is a glorious thing. Love how she is "driving" the entire process. Actually go back and "watch" the musicians listening and creating in REAL TYME - Fabulous example of how Jazz is a living, breathing energy that, FIRST and FOREMOST, draws you in and elicits an EMOTIONAL response - true creativity is always fluid and dynamic... BRAVO!
Eeek! Jazzmia killing it as usual!! She's ALL in to her solo's and I'm so here for it! I wish I could be so free as a singer. She's my #1 jazz inspiration. Go Emmet and Company!!
The trio cooks everytime. Love the changes and Hall keeps up like a magician; Poole is amazing as you are Emmet. Bring back Samaro Joy and Martina DaSilva, two of my all time singers. Thanks for the music.

Duude i think the same ! You're absolutely right ! It also gives me the amazing vibes from watching veronica swifts live in nyc performing pennies from heaven
According to all the sources I was able to find, "scat" as a word for feces is first recorded in the 1950's. It looks to me like it may have been back-formed from "scatology," which sees usage from the late 1800s, which is in turn derived from the Greek word meaning "dung, feces."
Professor Hockenberry - Is it true that that the etymological root of the word “taste” is “testes”? If so, this would explain why musical taste seems to be largely the product of testosterone and thus a quality that is virtually inaccessible to birthing people, as well non-birthing people who wear tiaras.
Great singers will interject an effect here and there to punctuate whatever sentence they're delivering. This girl is all punctuation. When she gets that figured out she'll probably be a good one. Now, she's just odd.
@@QuadriviumNumbers I bought tix to an upcoming show in DC that was billed as "Emmet Cohen and friends". I bought tickets over a year ago and have been so excited for it. This weekend, I learned Jazzmeia Horn was one of the friends joining him and checked this episode out. This kind of out of tune shouting is not my thing. I hope it's not like this.
I don't get all the fawning people do over her. She's borderline unlistenable She needs way more practice and seasoning and I mean WWWAAAYYYY MOOOORRREEEEE. She may learn to sing better but I think her problem is that she believes all the unwarranted lavish praise that is flowing her way and sees no need to improve. . I get it, she's young, vibrant and attractive, but give me Etta Jones or Abby Lincoln any day over this display of caterwauling.
Absolutely well said! Spot on analysis. She sounds like she went straight to Spalding and then proceeded to shout her way through these beautiful standards with scant regard for tuning or the rhythm section. She lacks refinement.
@@QuadriviumNumbers it’s ok to say that you just don’t like something. In fact, you don’t actually have to say anything at all. If you want to listen to people run through these standards the same way they were 50 years ago, go listen to some high school ensembles.
I love at 5:36 when Jazzmeia goes "Eek ek gek ak oo go" and Emmet goes "ah yes, I understand"

Jazz can sing litterally the happiest shit of all time and bring tears to my eyes
when you've got it, you've got it - and this lady's certainly got it! In sad times like these, we need some happy music like this
Awesome bass players don't get enough credit! don't get me wrong , the whole band is amazing!
Yeah dude on another level!
I wish wasn't snapping her fingers during his intro. Other wise. 9.99 out of 10 stars.
It is not about getting credit….it is music
@@TK-xo2mf It was annoying and unnecessary.
There's been no sun in Coventry West Midlands for days, you've just made it sunny! God bless all
Oh man. She gave it all! Sweeeet!!
It's completely impossible to watch this video without:
1) Smiling!
2) Shaking your head!
3) Saying "yeah"!
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
Tried but at 1:30 couldn’t stop smiling right till the end :)
That's true, because somehow good jazz is always kind of right so you must agree with it all the time lol!
4) Make the stank face
Excellent creative fresh vocalist
Emmet Cohen swingin'! Great comping. I enjoyed Jazzmeia grooving to the music. Essential!

Oh, good goodness! Some beauty to end a year of pain. Thank you. That brought such smiles and joy into my little corner of the world.
I love the quirky singer who has jazz in her DNA ❤️
Ooooh mais comme c’est bien !!!!!! Commencer l’année comme ça c’est transcendant merci 🙏
Love to the queen Jazzmeia Horn!
Them chords remind me of the late Bobby Timmons. Great video.
This is an awesome cover!
All words fail. This is spectacular
y'all are killing it. What tremendous fun! thanks for sharing.

Jazzmeia has grown on me, love her voice and personality. DIg her!
Jazzmeia (the) Horn! Lots of feelin’ in her soul!
I don't care what anybody has to say. She rocked this thing! It's her song now lol
I wish that Emmet be my neighbor!!!
That was fun! I love how free she was!
Pure magic! Gracias Emmet!

Dammn, she so energetic
ILOVE her voice!!!!
Anybody know what the quote at 2:37 is from?
I wanna say its from one of the Ahmad Jamal versions of Darn that Dream but i'm not sure
yassssss
Scat reminds me of Ella!
This is my favorite version of this tune since Esparanza Spalding did it.

Jazz isn’t just her middle name, it’s her first name!

Have you ever heard of an artist named Scat King Cole? Yeah, me neither.

Singin’ in Tongues 😀 😍 😜
Absolut umwerfend!
she definitely didn't need that mic at all.
Amazing job guys. Glad to hear different reinterpretations of a song we love. Check our channel out, we did a cover too.

Why don’t these ,ahem,Jazz vocalists learn that they first and foremost A SINGER!!
Deja de gritar tía... que horror
I love her but here she screams too much.
Yeah, I agree. Great feel and I admire her enthusiasm, but it does sound a bit unhinged haha!
She's way to shouty! And her tuning is lax.

i disagree bro
Look at the incognito racism. Yet if Veronica Swift’s boring self does less, you’re praising her irrationally

Too much shouting for my taste.
lol
if you ain't shout, you got to get it in yuh soul
skill issue
There's only so much out of tune shouting one can endure.
