It would be interesting to have a channel like that with different well known groups and artists. Dont get me wrong I love the rhythm sections playing but the appeal of tiny desk to me is hearing different artists and their group. Such as KNKX Radio and what they did by bringing arturo’s group and roy’s.
@@mrjazzyfy397 It isn't that Bart sounds like Eric Dolphy. He doesn't. No one can do that. But he plays with complete mastery and a very personal sound.
I really like his playing but am curious about the miking. You can feel a clear change in timbre when he moves closer and further away, or pointing slightly away from the mike - is it something to do with the mike itself, or does he just wave the horn around more than most players?
Majestic! Giveton Gelin - wow! Patrick Bartley - wow! and, what a rhythm section; this is so very much R Hargrove's spirit rekindled; reminds me when he was the Rhythmic, Islington, London, where, I saw and met him, and, exchanged thoughts; all of which, comes flooding back to me. He spoke so highly of Freddie Hubbard. I love the way you have arranged this, and, everything about this; you groove!
Patrick Bartley - and Emmet, and, Russell Hall and Kyle Poole; this is such an astoundingly well played and brilliant session - wow! and, each time I listen to this, I am enthralled and swinging...wow!
This pianist is the first cat I heard next to Benny Green that has been influenced by the great jazz pianist, "Johnny O'Neal," keep swinging like that you'll make it all the way into the Pearly White Gates of Heaven.
I don't know how many times I heard this since it came out here on youtube, but it must have been about hundred times. And every time this band makes me happy, I love Roy's music so much and it makes me dance here in my studio - okay, more jump around than dance ... A big thank you to Emmett and Patrick and Kyle and Giveton and Russell!
Kudos to the sound engineering...perfect balance. Every instrument can be heard equally.....no competing! I have heard some of the most tasteful and honest Jazz on this channel and feel so privileged. Thank you and much love from a big fan (Dean, UK)
Crazy good once again .. these Monday nights have become epic. I watched the CFP Championship game with no volume and listened to the fellas kill it ..!!!
This is the joyous selection by which I discovered Emmett Cohen and his outstanding weekly sessions, 'Live From Emmett's Place.' I must've passed this post by a couple of times, underestimating this unassuming-looking group of guys, then one day I said, "Alriiiight, let's see what they got." Was I surprised! And joyous is the right adjective for this performance - joy is the driving energy behind it and is written all over their happy faces throughout. From the lyrics, it turns out to be a hymn, and I've been a convert ever since!
It's been a couple of months now since I listened to this tune and It sounds even better! This is certainly a special moment in time preserved for all time! I love the way they play this song! So well done, guys!
There must be more than a few Jazz Heritage sites in Harlem and in the rest of New York City. Surely Emmet's Place has earned that designation after 40 volumes.D
I feel a bit sorry for Giveton on this one. Great talent that he is and a very soulful player he’s next to IMHO the best Alto player on the planet right now and Patrick simply takes it to another level on his solo as he does on everything he’s done with Emmet. Hope one day to see him live, what a player.
@@lxxwj I actually disagree. I think Bruce had a magnificent solo. But he played it right after possibly the best solo of the decade(Bartley). For real though, give Bruce’s solo another listen. Some insane ideas in there
@@chrispotter3190 i actually have since making my comment and i think i was definitely writing him off. i do think there were a few intonation/articulation issues that lessened the impact somewhat though. but those tight 8th note lines are awesome
I have always said that Giveton Gelin is the reincarnation of the late Roy Hargrove. They might not like but they know I'm right. "From the top of my head to the souls of my feet, I am blessed. I am covered in the blood in the blood... I am blessed." Rest in peace Hargrove.
This whole series is like tiny desk for jazz and I love it
I’ve been watching since the beginning and your analogy about “ tiny desk” for jazz is perfect ..!!!

Dont get me wrong I love the rhythm sections playing but the appeal of tiny desk to me is hearing different artists and their group. tiny desk is already pretty much jazz tho
well said
@@kormendymatyas8667 having 1 out of every 100 artist to be a jazz artist, its defenitively not being "pretty much jazz"
Show that brother on alto some love somebody. He's not running through exercises. He really knows how to tell a story. That brother be preachin'.
Also the guy on the trumpet!! He sounds so fresh!
If that is not the truth, I do not know what is.
That was the best description of bartleys playing I’ve ever heard
Pat bart solo just hits the spot even if i listen a milion times

patrick bartley straight up just vibing
Homie was in another world
From the top of head, to the soles of my feet, I am blessed.
I've got some cursed hairs going on up there but otherwise doing pretty well
Giveton Gelin carrying on the tradition. One of the finest young trumpet players in the country!!

MY MAN QUOTING MARY JANE GIRLS AT 5:09. LEGEND!!!! Bartley's got us shook up, shook down, shook out for his playing.
Caught that too!!
YO NO WAY!!! I just caught that hahaha! Bartley is easily one of my favorite players alive. He may even be one of the BEST players alive. (Imho)
3:59 how they all hit that rhythm together is actually insane, so in sync
And the reaction of the whole band after is so cool
The future of jazz is very promising :)
This sax solo by Patrick has me so obsessed that I'm transcribing it in its entirety, I'm almost done with it.
If you finish the transcription, if possible, please share it.

I enjoyed the trumpet solo, no random notes just for effect! Well played Giveton! I know you played that for Roy.
I've had this song stuck in my head for well over a day. I can't get over how great the band sounds and that quote of Four is incredible
same, i listen to this like every other day
I finally transcribed all of Patrick Bartley’s solo❤
Link if possible?
Y’all bad, stellar even. Roy said in many interviews that he did for the next-gen and y’all did NOT DISAPPOINT! He’d be proud!
Mr. Gelin even looking a little bit like Mr. Hargrove here. Y'all sound amazing! I love this tune.
I'm just over here wondering why you aren't super famous yet. Awesome job as usual!

I'm supposed to be working. But this comes on the youtube machine, and I'm just listening! Good god--what a band!
Some of Emmet's lines remind me of the late - 50+ years late and long overlooked - Sonny Clark.
This is that Roy Hargrove tune??
Yes!
One of the things that makes jazz great is the cooperation and presence of a group dedicated to the same ideals. It creates both power and intimacy.
3:56 is the moment all musicians should hope to encounter!!
Their tones match so nicely
some of the happiest siunding music ive heard in a while
around 2:25, emmet plays an idea and giveton echoes - amazing!
Now who's comping? You have 4 hours.
request "Strasbourg/St.Denis"
