I'm more of a classic prog guy (yes, rush, floyd, moody blues), so I never dug dream theater, but recognized their talent. When I first heard transatlantic, I felt as though this where Portnoy belonged, all along. I saw them at their first show in NYC.... what a band!

This is brilliant.
You must check out the Neal Morse solo catalog. Mike is his drummer on every album. (which is quite a lot). Look for the live version of "Author of Confusion" or maybe "World Without End". Neal started Spocks Beard in the late 90s. You want to see a band having fun? You must see them perform live. "The Doorway" "Waste Away", or "The Light" are good starters. Ted Leonard (in the back of the stage) is the current front man for Spocks. Some excellent tracks with him would be "Something Very Strange" "Afterthoughts" and "Hiding Out". The Neal Morse wormhole you just opened is plentiful and spectacular!
The keyboardist is Neal Morse. I've seen him live with the Neal Morse Band twice and he is just so much fun every time and most of his songs are just epically well made and have those legendary keyboard lines that you're talking about at 7:30 . The guitarist is Roine Stolt, a fellow swede and I saw his band The Flower Kings opening for Neal Morse a few years back. They got together and played a Transatlantic Medley at the end of the show. Anyway, it's just fun to see others enjoying the same stuff as me so thanks for this :-)

Mike forms all these Super groups, including Dream Theater. ie: Dream Theater, Transatlantic, Liquid Tension Experiment, and he's played with on a regular basis for Adrenaline Mob, OSI, Yellow Matter, BPMD, Nightmare Cinema, Bigelf, Liquid Trio Experiment, Hail, Dream Theater, Sons of Apollo, Liquid Tension Experiment, The Winery Dogs, Twisted Sister, Transatlantic, Avenged Sevenfold, Flying Colors, Stone Sour, Metal Allegiance, Neil Morse Band. He's the best, so he might as well make $$$ off of it.

Mike Portnoy was influenced by Rush and Iron Maiden to name a few (like also Led Zeppelin) so he likes very much the classic heavy metal and heavy prog . Dream Theater Prog metal . I like the way Mike plays tracks in general his style and his taste ! Monster bass guitar line and very good drumming . So appreciated the style . 1'36" ❣ 1'48" One (The) of the Two Kings you are lawyering the Quarter ! 2'06" Dangerous waters are common along the Rapids Sir Jon ! 3'50" The introduction fills and rolls few seconds before , clear , bluesy , tasty . You feel the groove instantly . You can do ghost notes with this triplets (ritmo terZinaTo) . Goood use of the bass drum and the interpretation of timing ; technic in rolls-fills . Mike is a double bass player but he stays in technical one kick as well and with Soul . 5'35" 🥳 💝 8'00" 'Monster of hilariousity' also if the grammar isn't correct . 8'45" You listen the upbeats on the little China cymbals on the right of Mike . 8'58" What smile Suzi , and Travis is 'very blown away' ! 9'10" (Almost) Polirythms i think . Look also at Travis face ! 9'49" Nnnailed it Suzi . 10'20" Ahhhh ecco... Fusion is MONSTERS my Jon . 10'44" I really appreciate your band's drummer . 13'46" Beautiful Tone on guitar . 14'22" Your face is Stunningly hurting Suzi ah but all of you have great faces . I hope the guys should check out the guitar/vocalist Ted Leonard's band called Enchant...there the greatest prog metal band.
Juggling 9 or Dropping 10 is my favorite Enchant album.

How are you going to jump straight into Transatlantic without giving a listen to Marillion, Spock's Beard or The Flower Kings first? You should work up to prog super-groups otherwise you might sprain some prog processing muscles.
