That's a driver, folks. Picking the highest gear that will pull, selecting downward a few times to find the right one, rather than starting out in a too-low gear and digging a hole. Gets it moving and engine lugging without slipping the clutch too much. Then, once it's moving, gets it moving at a stable speed and is patient to crawl along, doesn't give it too much throttle and ruin what he worked to achieve.
Mack diff’s putting power to all eight wheels evenly. Best diff’s ever made. Many a times I would forget to lock up and even then power to all eight, also loved the maxidyne 237.

Mack, and Volvo (which mind you, are separate, for example, Fiat owns Dodge, don't see a Fiat fullsize pickup with a 5.7 Hemi.) Make good trucks, Volvo makes work trucks, and more "Utility" trucks. Look it up before you start talking smack about a company that is at least still fully American.
What a time. I had a friend whose Dad owned an old Detroit V8 Mack RW Superliner but It was a log truck. I dont know what year it was but maybe an early 80's, it was definitely an RW superliner. This was right around the year 2000. Thats truck was so awesome, Dual stacks and with the log bunks and still nice but beaten factory silver paint. SO MAJESTIC. And had every bit of 900 hp.
Dogs are strong that explains why the truck is a Mack! Sounds of the late 70’s and that smoke black smoke telling us about her hardworking days😎love it!!
+WVTrucking Farmer 300 probably. Drove a DM with a 237 and an RD with a 300. Strong engines. Then there was the RD with the 350 and a 12 speed and the Super Liner with the V-8 and a 12. But Mack can still be a 4-letter word.
Not a good sign, sure. I pulled a drop deck with a 4k White with a non-blower 250 Cummins, a Mack 5x4 and 6:83 gears. It'd start off a load anywhere on idle but you had to do some 'stirring' to keep the road speed up. No jake either.
It's probably a pretty large diameter turbo, hence the turbo lag/smoke and the whine. (On smaller higher speed turbos they just make a "shhhh" noise at speed)
when Mack was Mack, now they got together with Volvo and all that European junk, Macks glory is gone, take care of this old mack to remind people what a real truck used to be.
Yeah man. those old superliners rape the new junk... the doors and seat are so light and flimsy, first impression of quality... cheap cheap... I don't care how good they say the new power trains are if the door feels like a power wheels it's junk
Shit, today's engines are capable of way more power. Old school is cool but a newer Cat, Cummins or Detroit will pull the wedgie out of the ass if tuned properly.
@@adrian69644 You have two options with diesel engines, high power with poor reliability or high reliability with poor power. For it's days, it was a very well suited truck for the job and it was built for reliability, that why it's still hauling grain.

We used to have a Mack cabover 350 maxidyne 5spd pulled a d6 dozer all over the countryside in Kentucky. No power steering. Had to be extremely healthy to drive that truck. Wasn't nothing for it to pop the driver wheel up taking off from a stop when hauling the dozer. Had the clear and red metal flake gear shifter. Those were the good ole days.
True American history to bad it's sold out my favorite is the supper Dawg 8v under the big Square Hood makes me feel sad it gone and all the junk made now
Must be pretty hard on that clutch. When ever I am on a ramp leading to the 401 here in Toronto in the winter and the ramps a loaded with snow, that is what I learned to do, one gear up and easy on the fuel, just enough to keep from slipping. So many drivers just don't get it and end up with wheel spin and stuck. Nice job..
There is a reason why they call them scatterpillars there, you go with what you need or want, not some persons personnel opinion, older macks are great, had newer mack with a cat motor and had issues up the ying yang with the motor and drive train so, I am not sold on just cats.
Yes Sir your absolutely right . if its a "Mutt" i wont own it it's gotta be a pure breed Bulldog for me esp since it's gonna have my name on it & my butt in the drivers seat its gotta be an all Mack drive train . ;) Give an ole R or DM Mack anyday over the new granite volvoized Macks.
But its crazy that i have seen a 2012 389 Peterbilt that was brandnew and ordered for heavy hauling and it had a Isx Cummins and it also had a mack trans and rear ends in it sitting at a Peterbilt dealership ready to get shipped to the new owner...Whats up with that?

it's funny, the truck was bogging down and the turbo was still spooling up anyway haha.
