My uncle and his rig were extras in the convoy scene of the movie. I have a picture of my uncle and CW McCall. The movie had a call out for truckers so my uncle jumped at the opportunity. I’m 53 and I have my dvd copy of this movie. A true trucker classic.

Agreed. Saw it as a kid back in 1978. Never thought about the original truck still being around. Assume a replica and a good stuntman were used at the end of the movie as special effects did not exist at today's levels, and obviously neither did CGI and green screen.

That is true of most Mack trucks historically. In addition to tractor-trailers, Mack makes smaller class 7/8 trucks (they compete with International, Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge in the just-below-tractor-trailer classes) - we have a rather large number in the DC suburbs - doing duty in the trades - such as cement mixer front ends, or toting gravel (aggregate) or even (don't laugh!) dirt. In my immediate area (southern suburbs if Washington DC) it's Chaney Enterprises that has a lot of these *smaller* Macks.

@@PGHammer21A they run Mack’s because nothing takes the weight directly on the chassis like a Mack will. We ran DM800’s hauling coal in SE Ky, I went places that scared shit outta me in those ol Mack’s, off road not many other makes would hold up, Autocars, Paystars, White Construktor’s, that’s about it. 👍🇺🇸

Alexander Performance, You forgot White Line Fever and the Snowman's Kenworth in Newnan, GA is probably a replica and If it's the one I think it is, It's probably Brad Wike's replica out of Lincolnton, NC that ended up being brought to Newnan, GA for some show, Which is a replica of Snowman's truck, If not, The truck you mention is probably more than likely another replica of Snowman's truck, The truth is, None of the real trucks used during the filming of the first Smokey and the Bandit movie have yet to surface to this day, Todd Epperson, As for the Blue Mule from White Line Fever, I'm working on it...

Glad to see it out and about. If it ever goes back to a museum, it almost certainly should go to the Mack truck company museum in Allentown PA. Either that or maybe Iowa 80. There is still one of those Macks out there on the road last I read. It was turned into a dump truck and several people have tried to buy it with no luck. Bruhn brothers trucking also bought Pigpen's Mack Cruiseliner after the movie and put it to work. It was laid over on its side by one of their drivers hauling a heavy load and wrecked beyond repair.

I'm a retired trucker after 37 years and for most of my career, I drove Macks of all different kinds and there's nothin' like a Mack. I wrote a little song about it. (sung to the tune of "Turkey in the Straw" Want to hear it? Hear it Go. I got a one stack Mack with a window in the back, it's a 5-speed Mack so I run it with the Tach, It's got a Py-ro-meter so I don't overheat her, so I can make it back with my One Stack Mack. Anyone that drove those old Macks will know what I'm talkin' about.

In 1977 I was stationed in New Mexico at Holloman Air Force Base Near White Sands. One day on base I passed a long line of Semi's and several tan cop cars parked along the street. On one flatbed was the front section of a black Mack truck with poles sticking off it's roof. Only later after seeing the movie Convoy did I realize what I had seen. It was production vehicles from the movie including the cab used for closeups of Kristofferson and MacGraw. The poles would have held the cameras.

This isn't a video. It's some guy mumbling over a slide show. I want to see the truck in action!

Which 2 stroke Detroit engine was originally in the truck? The sound on the movie was intoxicating 😍

Charles Pyatt. I reckon it was an 8V71T. Notice in the film the Mack had 2 rubber air inlet tubes from the air cleaner, meaning it needed more air than normal. It's not a 92 series as it doesn't sound like it and a natural 71 has a higher pitch of sound. Many guys say it was an overdubbed sound but in the scene where Ali McGraw says she's going and Kris Kristoffersen says ''if you want out jump'' and reaches over and opens the door and all you hear is the sound of the blower at peak RPM

Mack did use Detroit v8's but they did have a Mack v8 option, The RS700L was the superliner before they made the superliner, would they put a Detroit in a flagship model like that? I know in a few scenes it sounds like a Detroit Jake going off but that can be sound effects, but it's probably a 11litre Mack inline 6

@Mi No you would be surprised with a long slide on the 5th wheel you can throw alot of weight to the front axle. Drove a mack cruise liner cab over with a 260 W B long, slide you could really move the weight to the front
