I love watching Senri on drums. She is such a powerhouse when she plays and she looks like she is having a ton of fun playing with her band. One of the world's best drummers Senri is.
Miku just cracks me up. She's wearing an outfit that looks like she's going to a sweet sixteen party. Clever disguise for one of the most ferocious beasts you're ever gonna see.
We all love Senri and her phenomenal drumming but gdamn that sax is beautiful

It's always a joy to hear these talented musicians jam out.
Senri brought me back to jazz. In my youth I often went to jazz performances, but then I turned to Rock, Country, Folk and stuff like that. The japanese Music scene of today showed me that I missed so much that was going on in other parts of the world when I was listening only to western music. I'm 70 years old and there is so much music left to be discovered. Senri of sure is the no.1 Jazzdrummer of the world! For me she is, no doubt.

To be able to play Senri's part you need incredible endurance or you will begin to get behind the BPM. AWESOME, she is not only top female drummer I put her in top 5 worldwide, 😅

I knew the studio version of "Raging Spur" on the Senri's album "Dynamogenic" (2020) with Yuya Komoguchi (guitar, the composer of the song) and Tetsuo Sakurai on bass, and already it was top level... But this version live with her friend Miku Yonezawa on sax: OMG, it’s on fire!!!
I sincerely hope that there is a DVD (or at least a CD) of this live musical combo!
Yeah, I would like to see more of this session. Something really clicked between the musicians, at least during this number.

Senri is considered one of the top drummers in the world. And like Miles, she doesn’t play with 1/2 wits. I wonder if Billy Cobham is aware of her huge presence

The Jazz Avengers are my favorite band. Juna is amazing. Ami? World class. They are all so good and they complement one another perfectly. Shalom

As an American listening to the best Jazz Fusion I can find over the last 35 years, I can testify that this is solid Western Jazz Fusion. By listening alone, no one could tell that this was a Japanese band with two featured lady musicians. I love it!!!
I’m not sure how it would be possible to discern in any instrumental recording either the nationality or gender of the musicians.
You're not sure? Good grief, Greg. So if I told you that the Japanese are mastering how to play Western Jazz and that women excelling in instruments that mostly men have played over the decades, none of that would make sense to you?@@Greg-om2hb

Western musicians dream of being as good as Japanese musicians. Listen to video game music from Sonic, Persona, and Mario Kart and you will see how far they have surpassed us. And many of those great composers are of the female variety writing some of the most awesome, creative, and hype music I've ever heard. I think you probably didn't mean it that way, but you really come across as thinking that Western men are the best musicians and others should feel lucky to be compared to them.

Absolutely right, that keyboard-sax “battle” was out of this world!! Gotta laugh at that wicked side-eye that Miku is giving Akinori at 3:13 and thru-out. I imagine it’s from her concentrating and thinking ahead at lightning speed, but it looks to me to like, “Oh, yeah??? I’m gon’ git you, sucka!!!”

They are all amazing but Senri is the amazingest.
I didn't know Senri had formed a band but this has been a high energy introduction. Senri's always a joy to watch but she didn't dominate the piece. I'm not a huge fan of sax but this performance hooked me from start to finish, amazing sounds. Would have liked the guitarist a notch louder for his solos. Really exciting band, love you ❤❤❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😊
From what I am aware she is in:
- Kiyo*Sen (jazz fusion together with Kiyomi Otaka on keys, check yesterdays video, they are a project for about 10 years now)
- The Jazz Avengers (8 amazing musicians, but they have 4 sax players including Miku shown here, still you might enjoy it)
- 坐音 ZAON (jazz fusion mixed with traditional instruments, also one soprano sax but it's not overly sax-heavy)
- Uragaeru (not sure if that's going to be an ongoing thing, jazz fusion as a tribute to the band Fragile)
I highly recommend checking those out.
I am sure there are plenty of other people she colaborates with regularly. I don't think you should see this as a "band" persee, just some great jazz musicians playing together.

I knew of the Jazz Avengers but the rest is new to me. I've loved seeing Senri mature from a highly gifted girl into a top drummer ❤️👍🏻

I completely missed that :). We will see if they start releasing stuff in this formation, jazz musicians just seem to collaborate more than forming bands, but who knows.
@@MaartenT Nice suggestions, thanx! I don't think I've heard Uragaeru - will check 'em out. As you said, Senri is in many "bands" that are kinda part-time - one band not on your list that is really special - Eric Miyshiro's band "Tokyo Blue Note Jazz All-Stars". Awkward name, but the "all stars" part is for real. Usually the normal 17 piece big band featuring the finest jazz musicians in Japan as well as famous guest artists from all over the world. Senri is still the band's regular drummer, AFAIK. Miku has also played in this band. Most of the music they play is nothing like the music in this video, but it's as beautiful as this is ferocious. Added bonus #1 - the big band should be a good option for those purists (all 9 of them) who are always sneering that Senri doesn't play "real jazz". Added bonus #2 - Senri looks really sharp in a black vest!

That was so intense that I almost couldn't believe what I was seeing! Of course, this is the aptly named opening track from Senri's "Dynamogenic" album. But on the album it's only a quartet, mostly featuring guitar and drums. The first thing that struck me about this performance is how Miku just shows up in the band, sight-reads the tune, and proceeds to burn down the house as if this kick-ass tune had been written just for her. Akinori Handa is fantastic trading with with Miku and proves that men sometimes know how to rock, too!!🤣 Being just a bit more serious, I'm really glad that Yoshiki Takahashi kept it 100% solid and didn't subject us to a slap-fest. Yuya is killin' on guitar, and even if shred isn't my favorite style, he's playing to fit the song, and it's his song. One thing some of us have noticed about incredible musicians like this - as great as they've become - they get even better when Senri is in the band.
