Yeah, they have a gimmick. Their gimmick is this: You think you're getting Japanese anime girls lip-syncing Jpop but instead you get a once-in-a-generation rock and roll band. They both echo and advance the themes, but they don't overwhelm you, they still play melodically. By the way, a rare on-stage smile from Misa at 1:07. She's a bassist in the Entwistle vein ... pretty taciturn on stage.
I'm still basking in the glow of being there, and it was 40 days ago! I keep playing this show and it still makes my face hurt from grinning. Thank you for your wonderful post. Bandmaid is a world class rock band. Lead guitar, bass, and drums are top-class performers. Bokaru & Duet are also great. The most important thing is that they give their best effort on any stage and have fun themselves. MISA plays a Black Cloud brand “Smoker” bass. (Early years was a Fender Jazz) Nailed Miku’s Zemaitis. That’s her own signature “Flappy Pigeon.” You guys have to see them live, somehow, someway. I’m with you on not liking the huge crowd. I got lucky and saw them in a 700 capacity venue. It was the one of the most fun things I’ve ever done. Not just a concert, any thing in life. We've been fortunate enough to see Band-Maid 3 times over the past year and I have to say that Saiki seems to do that exact smile every time I have seen her finish this song. Not entirely sure if it's apologetic, saying "No, I'm not saying I hate YOU." or joy that a song she worked on the lyrics for is getting such love or a mix of the two or what. As of a few minutes ago, Black Cloud's website doesn't have her listed on their "artists" page, for whatever that's worth. Miku does indeed play Zemaitis. There's a factory tour video of her here on TH-cam and if you Google Zemaitis Flappy Pigeon you can find out more about her signature model that she was playing in this performance. Incidentally, the title screen of the Zemaitis factory tour includes Miku's name in Japanese and just looking closely at the first symbol goes a long ways towards explaining the origin of the pigeon stuff.

This set kicked open doors we don't even know about yet. Pure speculation but I expect them getting more festivals and better slots next year. Maybe even a major opening slot on a major act tour. Europe is over due for a tour so them going to the EU and hitting some of the major festivals is a very real possibility. Download or Glastonbury make sense so we are just going to have to wait and see.
SJ, I think that festival rounds is the vest way for them to gain new fans for the time being. Touring with a major band would be ideal, hope it happens.
Misa started out with a Fender Jazz bass. But since then uses signature basses by Black Cloud of which she has a few including a fender style, and SG style and a Fender style all black Black Smoker. The lead guitar- Kanami, is a PRS and the rhythm guitar- Mike is a signature Zamaitis. Akane uses Wincent 5B sticks. They did an hour set all of which was filmed.
There are hints that Band Maid will come out with some new stuff, i.e., full album, perhaps near Christmas or the New Year. They have already debut a new song titled, "Go Easy" at the Nagano show, Sep. 10, 2023, part of their final leg of their 10th anniversary Japan tour. There is usually a surprise announcement at the end of their big shows and Nov. 26, 2023 will be their 10th anniversary tour final. That will give you over 130 songs to do reactions. Down the Pigeon hole we go, Po! 🦍🍌
Misa’s bass was made by Black Cloud Guitars. I can’t remember the name of this one, but it’s something like, “Smoke Stained Wallpaper”, or something like that. Not kidding. Her black bass is called, “Black Smoker.” Miku’s Zamitas guitar is a MF-FP-22 (metal front Flappy Pigeon 22 fret). Only 50 of them were made. Her signature model.
After seeing this clip on TH-cam, I had high exceptions for the Anaheim show. Though I was worried about it being the last leg of US tour and last few dates had pretty brutal travel times. Kanami was exhausted by the end of the 22 tour. Maybe Saiki made her work out to build up her strength. They crushed it at the Anaheim show, the whole crowd was singing almost as loud as the band by the third song. Akane could hear the crowd singing over her drums.
They definitely took Kanami's issues last year into account when they planned this year's tours. They split the US Tour into two separate trips this time with a few more short festival dates instead of jamming them all into one month. The Japanese shows in between were spaced out more and obviously there's less travel involved for them over there as well. I'm sure Kanami learned from last year and was a bit smarter with her diet and got the proper rest she needed this time around. 😀
Miku owns well over a dozen zemaitis. Mainly electric but also beautiful acoustics. She has put them on the map especially among female musicians in Asia.
I didn't want to go to LaLa either. I went to the aftershow at the Parkwest the night before. They were also at the House of Blues last November. Next event show is the Yokohama Arena Thanksgiving weekend. Book your flights. After 9 shows I can confirm that yellow bass (5 shows) hits like a charging rino. And it's relentless, pounding your head all night.
Yeah crowds are too big for me these days. Man I have not seen a show at Park West in a long time! I would love to see this band live for sure! HORNS UP Jeff from Chicago!

Band-Maid made a Lollapaloza spotify play list. They did 13 songs at Lolla and then that night played again at Park West around midnight. I sadly missed both :(
I'm a huge fan of Band Maid and I watched the full set which they killed it. You need to also check out Lovebites from Japan as well I have very hard deciding which band I like more 🤘
This would have been a much better video if the floor director knew what he was doing. It gets confusing when you're hearing the bass killing it but you see the rhythm player on screen.
The band are peerless; this performance is spectacular; a reactor repeatedly pausing the bass/guitar duel to make pointless interjections is beyond frustrating. Let Band Maid speak! They are the talent on the screen!!
I love band maid to death and have 5 of their albums and saw them in DC last year. Saiki’s voice seems flat, though. The music is dialed in, but her voice is just a little off.
I love this outdoor performance, but the video crew need to be fired. Worse camera editing and angles ever. Missed a lot of Misa and Kanami solos during Dice because the cameras where pointed elsewhere. What the heck?

Misa’s bass was made by Black Cloud Guitars. I can’t remember the name of this one, but it’s something like, “Smoke Stained Wallpaper”, or something like that. Not kidding. Her black bass is called, “Black Smoker.”
Miku’s Zamitas guitar is a MF-FP-22 (metal front Flappy Pigeon 22 fret). Only 50 of them were made. Her signature model.
You know they're the real deal when a song like "Dice" is the quite before the storm. LOL
Misa plays Black Cloud basses. PS...didn't know Triple H had a reaction YT channel 😂
Best band out there, these ladies are the real deal, never been a band remotley like them,WOW.
A performance that ignites the American rock spirit❗️😡😡😡👍
from🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🤘
Thanks!
I had a hard time at their age making my own bowl of cereal wholly Shit man. OUTSTANDING! I've been a musician for the last 55 years and I'm blown away!🤯
Well here we are again you Metal Heads another kick ass reaction by V. and Jason. If you would like to thank them check the links below. Thanks V. Thanks Jason Tunage Ambassador Jenks
Thank you mr jenkins!
They're an overwhelmingly cool band❗️😆😆😆👍❤ 最高!🇯🇵
Akane, happiest drummer ever.
Band-Maid made a Lollapaloza spotify play list. They did 13 songs at Lolla and then that night played again at Park West around midnight. I sadly missed both :(
Other way around, the midnight show was the night before, then the afternoon show the next day :D - but still a slog with only 12 hours rest.
One thing you can ever accuse Band-Maid of doing is "phoning in a performance". Everyone is in it for every second of the okyu-ji.
I'm a huge fan of Band Maid and I watched the full set which they killed it. You need to also check out Lovebites from Japan as well I have very hard deciding which band I like more 🤘
11:50 SPOT ON!!!!
Great reaction! Do it more!! Thnx!!!
Kanami needs to change her name to Sue-Nami - because she absolutely destroys everything…. Tsunami!
They got a one hour set.
MISA MISA MISA!!!!!
Can you imagine being the next band?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I would just pack up.
You should try Lovebites for me it's the next level and it's also a band of 5 japanese females
I love band maid to death and have 5 of their albums and saw them in DC last year. Saiki’s voice seems flat, though. The music is dialed in, but her voice is just a little off.
🤘🤘🤘🤘🎀🎀🎀🎀🎀🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love this outdoor performance, but the video crew need to be fired. Worse camera editing and angles ever. Missed a lot of Misa and Kanami solos during Dice because the cameras where pointed elsewhere. What the heck?
このレベルのリアクションは止めてほしい切りすぎイライラする😡
Wtf do you mean?
His Holiness TinyHat-san welcomes you to the Unseen World that leads to World Domination.
Band maid...from now on
Kinda blows my mind some bros can't look past the fact they are females, and listen to the skill. Far more talented than many bands.🕊️❄️🍌🥷🎸
