Well said! I agree with your assessment completely! I have been to my fair share of concerts/shows which include most of the All-time greats in Metal/Hard Rock and I would say when I saw BAND-MAID for the first time in LA in 2019 not only did it blow me away but I had possibly the best time I evelr at any show that was until the next day. Which may sound far fetched to some when you consider how many great guitarists have ever played the instrument. Nonetheless, I willing to stand by those words. The intimacy of the smallish venues that they have been forced to play in, in Europe and North America, has its own allure, but this band was born for the BIG arena and the BIG show! Thank you for another reaction that was worth everyone's time and attention!
I was in that venue in early March for Babymetal. It made me wish I lived in/near Yokohama just so I could have a short trip to all of the great shows that roll through there. What's funny is from the outside, it looks more like a big, modern corporate office, not an arena.

This is a great song, period. Have watched it 10 + times so far. Your analysis is spot on. That duel/dialogue literally brings me tears of joy every time.
Best damned "F*** Off" song I have heard in a long time. The lyrics (by Saiki) are brutal but funny. Kanami and Misa along with Akane are FIRE!!!!! Saiki tell us how you really feel!!!!!
Wow... Joy, Grace and Aggression.... nailed it dude. I loved the bummed out grunge era but this band is absolutely my musical happy place right now. Great reaction. 😆
People say Rock is dead. People are paying a fortune to see The Eagles and when they get there the band lip sync. Download put Metallic on twice as headliners. If rock music has a future Band-Maid are one of the bands who are bringing in the new wave.
Absolutely spot on again Eric, grace, joy and aggression. This is the energy and enthusiasm they show in the 28th song of a 33 song set, they are indomitable. And yes, it's unashamedly, unironically, rock and roll. Don't feel too bad for the guy, he's given a voice with Miku's sarcastic "Why don't you try to understand me?"
Lots of misinformation here. Saiki said she heard about infidelity in the news and wrote the lyrics in response. Japanese fans speculated it was about LiSA, a very famous singer, who's husband's infidelity was all over the press. Nothing about any friend. She also said the Simpsons show was another source of inspiration.
Yes, apparently rumors abounded as to the identity of the villain of the song, but it seems to turn out that Saiki was writing lyrics about the general anger she had towards people cheating during the Covid lockdown and other similar issues that caused her much resentment. Like all very good lyricists, Saiki was able to pull and combine different references from many other sources to give her song have the proper emotional impact. The result was a very searingly powerful song.
I stumbled onto Band Maid two years ago (shout out to Verdy Channel). They literally changed my life in the space of ten minutes.... "Domination" and "Freedom". Since then there is joy in every day because every day I watch Band Maid. Great reaction my friend. 🤘🤘
It makes PERFECT sense, Eric!! You captured exactly how this 60+ feels about the Maids and their relation to our musical youth! Sublime Joy. 🤩 Oh, yeah, that dude is toast! 😂 Saiki always looks so happy when she’s gotten this off her chest at the end of the song! 😂😂
Saiki said she wrote this song from the point of view of those who have been cheated on (possibly a friend of hers). It's not based on Saiki's personal experiences. It's sad that they probably won't play this extended version of "Hate?" for a while now that their tenth anniversary tour has come and gone. I'm sure they'll have some cool songs from their new album in summer to level up for their live shows in the future though. I can't wait.
Your insight is wonderful. In your explanation, I understood well why the performance and song of this band touched my heart. Please react to another song as well. Thanks!
Saiki wrote the lyrics to this song. The rumor I heard was that she wrote it about one of her friend's husbands, who was a cheater. I'm not sure how accurate that is.
Eric, Kanami stated that she wrote the song in an angry mood one day and told the band that. Miku and Saiki both wrote lyrics to the song. The band accept Saiki's lyrics. Miku was to subtle and circumspect in her lyrics. Saiki is a lot more direct. Saiki wrote the lyrics because she was really pissed off about the husband of a friend (Lisa, a J-Pop singer) cheating on her during the pandemic and was outed. She had this opportunity to vent so she did.
What inspired this song based on what band members have actually said: The lyrics were largely inspired by multiple media reports of infidelity during the pandemic. Saiki, who wrote the lyrics, was depressed by this and cited that it even happened to a friend of hers, although she never hinted at who that is.* It's not a literal recounting of a personal experience nor does the song even explicitly mention cheating, although I'd bet she, like most of us, has experienced similar feelings in a relationship gone wrong. Saiki also mentioned that an episode of The Simpsons, where Bart screams "I hate you, I hate.you, I hate you," at Homer also inspired the song simply because she thought it would fun to sing that line. Saiki initially thought Kanami might have been angry when she wrote the music. Kanami denied that and stated that she simply envisioned an explosion. Kanami was originally planning this to be an instrumental but Saiki wanted to sing the main guitar melody in the demo. So that's what they did. *There's a lot of fan speculation that this person is a famous Japanese female singer but there's no actual evidence of that or that Saiki and this singer are close friends. That belief was triggered by one social post the singer made when she ran into the members of B-M at a record store promotion. To my knowledge, all anyone knows is that they have met.
@@saldiven2009 Yup, that's what the social post made by our unnamed singer seemed to suggest. Apparently Akane was most acquainted with her. They were chumming it up a bit. It's certainly possible that they've all become friendly in the meantime but who knows? It was just one social post.
Great review. Yes, the joy of playing/performing is what this band brings to the scene....the absolute love of playing for their fans as well as the music just pours from them during every performance we've seen. I've seen them twice live so far...and yes, they are the real thing.
Great reaction and Saiki wrote the lyrics. There was a lot of cheating occurring during covid lock down in the press at this time and Saiki was pissed. The singer LISA (a friend of Akane) was also affected by this as her husband was caught cheating and created a big scandal, but I've not heard anything from Saiki if this was the issue that inspired her.
From memory, she didn't mention a specific instance, but she did mention that she was angered by at least one high profile celebrity marital affair scandal. The one with LiSA was the highest profile at the time, so a good number of fans have speculated that one was the impetus for these lyrics.
Rumor has it that the song is about a husband of a friend of Saiki (no mention if it was a band member or a friend out side of the band). It sounds like he cheated on the friend of Saiki during a difficult time. Band-Maid and most Japanese bands are extremely silent about their private lives so your guess is as good as mine who what when or where but one thing is for sure, who ever he is, His Name Is MUD! lol Also, Band-Maid is releasing a new song on 4/17 named "Bestie" co written by Incubus founder Michael Eizinger. May 1st Band-Maid is opening for Incubus in Japan. Also, 6/12/24 band-Maid and The Warning will be playing together in Japan. Big year for my favorite band 😁
This episode occurred during COVID time. Ad as far as I know it was based on an experience of a friend of her plus many other that suffered during COVID time.
What you say totally resonates in me. As a stage musican and as a part of an audience, I've always tried to get joy and energy and when both were reunited, those were the best concerts of my life (guess what: Band-Maid was one of 'em).
Tower Records is alive and well in the five major Japanese cities. Five stories of everything music. There's also a yearly all-female rock festival in Osaka. Where all the members of Nemophila met and featured at various times. Great reaction. Misa reminds me of the Who bassist. Fills all the gaps that elevate the song.
This, 100%. As great as their videos are, nothing compares with seeing them live. It's transformative. I was on the rail at the Minneapolis show last August, and this thought kept popping into my mind: "OMG, I'm standing in front of the greatest live rock band on the planet."

This track, that Saiki wrote the lyrics for, makes Alanis Morissette seem like a happy go-lucky woman scorned. The guitar/bass battle nicely represents a couple's argument heard through the apartment wall, Kanami wins that one hands down.
There you go again .... putting into words what we're all thinking, but can't spit out. Yep ... 27th of a 33 song concert - wait till you see the closer (No. 33 - Endless Story) Great Band and a great reaction. Love ur work.
Thank you, Eric. Your reactions are every time on point. These Ladies are so good and they are working so hard, it´s an honor, to see them live. I´m an old Metal Head and thought for many years "that´s it, nothing new coming". And 2 Years ago, I discovered the japanese Metal Scene. Wow, what an experience since then. Band Maid, Lovebites, Nemophila, Hanabie, Baby Metal, Mary´s Blood, an endless list of top musicians, which are creating a new music genre with a smart mix of the old Genres and their unbelievable perfection. And I agree with you: I can hear their smile and their joy makes me listening these japanese Bands inbetween every day
I think "Mikudayo" means "Miku, you know! or of course!," Po! (emphasis me here) from a 2nd person perspective like I'm introducing or giving props to Miku. Therefore, phonetically, you can say Miku - dah - yo! (like in hiphop = yo! yo!), Po! Another great reaction, Po! 🦍🍌Saiki (lead V) wrote the lyrics from a 4th person prospective (cheater, victim wife, mistress, Saiki -- some say is a friend of the victim wife, but nothing from Saiki to confirm this), Po! Her target - cheater and his mistress, Po! Side note: it appears Saiki is a "The Simpsons" fan, and wanted to use Bart's "I Hate you" phrase in a song, and here we have it, Po! Btw, if the characters are who many believe it is (Japanese celebrity couple), then, Unfortunately, the genitalman in question tried to "off" himself, but luckily survived. Both the former-husband and wife had to take some time off from their celebrity schedules to heal, Po! Sadly, this happens when we think with the wrong "head."
It is rumoured that a friend of hers went through a rough break-up during COVID. ...and as you saw: it pissed her really of. At least she doesn't like cheating a**holes much.

I was in that venue in early March for Babymetal. It made me wish I lived in/near Yokohama just so I could have a short trip to all of the great shows that roll through there. What's funny is from the outside, it looks more like a big, modern corporate office, not an arena.
I saw them last summer at a small venue in Salt lake City and they killed it. I mean KILLED IT!!!! My biggest fear is that soon they will explode upon the world and that fantastic experience I had with them will never be possible again. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see them become as famous as they deserve, but being there with them in that intimate space was just something I will never get over. It was like being there with a bunch of family. We were all there for Band Maid and in a large venue that intamacy gets lost. You just can't get the same thing in a large setting, even though they are the best band in the world in any venue today.
Thanks -- it's always nice to get a cerebral "feel" for the places that come up in BMLore that I will probably never see.
I know EXACTLY how you feel! It's a little like being a parent, and watching your kid go away to college. You know that what is happening is an experience that they both need and deserve, but you can't help but be a bit sad that one chapter of your life with that person is closing.
BAND-MAID make me feel eternally young.
This is a great song, period. Have watched it 10 + times so far. Your analysis is spot on. That duel/dialogue literally brings me tears of joy every time.
I would recommend watching their instrumental performance - BAND-MAID / from now on (Official Music Video)
Best damned "F*** Off" song I have heard in a long time. The lyrics (by Saiki) are brutal but funny. Kanami and Misa along with Akane are FIRE!!!!! Saiki tell us how you really feel!!!!!
Misa runs barefoot back to the stage at the end like "Hey, wait for me."
Thanks for another intelligent commentary. A harsh break-up song that leaves you feeling good!
Kanami is a riff master, and i really mean that.
Band Maid is a force to be reckoned with! They deserve recognition, because these ladies know to rock!
Wow... Joy, Grace and Aggression.... nailed it dude.
I loved the bummed out grunge era but this band is absolutely my musical happy place right now. Great reaction. 😆
50 years experience of listening to music
Sorry, forgot this 🤟
"Grace, joy and aggression" -- Oh ya, that's perfect!
Thanks very much for sharing this, @ericifune5543. Like you, I think that we as fans should avoid speculation and circulating rumors.
Oh, yeah, that dude is toast!
That dude mentioned in the lyrics toast AF! 😂
Band-Maid knows exactly what they are doing seemingly in so many regards. This song and performance slam into us like a freight train
I couldn't agree more. Band Maid really does put the fun back into rock and roll. 🤟🤟🤟
Now run and tell that!!!
Seriously every nitwit that wants to react to real music should be required to watch 10 of your reactions. You do it right!
🤘I concur!🤘
This song is 🔥🔥🔥
The first time I saw this with the lyrics, I spit my coffee all over my tablet.
"Ten minutes of limp gymnastics" 😳
Band-Maid always deserve all the horns up! 🤘🤘
Obviously you have seen my comments around here,,,,,, first time being to your music 🎶 channel here 1️⃣🇦🇺💯
As an old dude "Amen"
That was a fabulous review. Grace, joy and agression... great summary!. Thank you.
Your insight is wonderful. In your explanation, I understood well why the performance and song of this band touched my heart. Please react to another song as well. Thanks!
LOL love that breakdown Eric, when someone tells you "youre not even a zero" you are pretty much done.
I only watch now people who can say something professional about the music. Thank you for ur reaction.
Best single performance I've seen on youtube in years. What fun. Thanks for checking it out.
Saiki wrote the lyrics to this song. The rumor I heard was that she wrote it about one of her friend's husbands, who was a cheater. I'm not sure how accurate that is.
*BAND MAID!!*
🤘😀🤘
🤘🤘🤘
So kind of interesting Miku usually writes the lyrics on many of the songs but Saiki wrote these ones.
Yes that's what I heard. The guy must have been mad to cheat on her. I believe she forgave him and they have had a child together
This was an epic production at THE biggest venue in Japan..
I'm sure they think of this as their true "Budokan Revenge."
"Hey Rock Bands... simple things..." Thank you.
I love how you are able to articulate what we're all thinking.
I'm 63, and absolutely love them. They Rock 😊😊😊
🤘My 1st BandMaid song. Crazy! 🤪
Never has hate sounded so fun. 🤘😆🤘
Saiki isn't friends with that singer, but apparently Akane has some level of acquaintance with her. But, then, Akane makes friends with everyone....
Forgot to comment, so here ya go. I just can’t think of what else to say. They’re just great all the time. So I appreciated your observations
Great as always. Rarely has anyone summed up what Band-Maid is all about so well. 🤘🤘🤘
🤘🏽 Band Maid 🔥 ❤
Some of the finest songwriting since the seventies
Love your T shirt. I love Band Maid and have watch this about 1,000 times and never get tired of it. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
From *Saiki* the Ice Queen Hear me roar now that how you make up a break up song! _Taylor_ 🤣😂😊 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
John Entwistle (The bassist you mentioned).
@@wanderleyjesus6772 Always misspell his name. His bass lines got me interested without knowing why. Non musician. Didn't have the discipline.
Band-Maid's way of saying, "don't get on our bad side". Great song and performance.
Four simple words: go see them live.
This, 100%. As great as their videos are, nothing compares with seeing them live. It's transformative. I was on the rail at the Minneapolis show last August, and this thought kept popping into my mind: "OMG, I'm standing in front of the greatest live rock band on the planet."
Performances like this are why these ladies are so right with their own words!... 👇🏻❤🔥 Oh, and your words are making a lot of sense imo! 🤘🏻

Band maid is a super live band nice reaction greetings from Germany 🎸🤘👍
A most EXCELLENT break down!!!!!Now if you want to see how to finish a concert check out their closer from the same show "ENDLESS STORY" you have my SUB. PO!!!!!🕊🍌🍻☕⚾⚾
Just epic just everything about them is fantastic.Loved your expression when I assume you saw the phrase "10 minutes of limp gymnastics"🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
🤘Thank you for reacting to BAND-MAID in general as well as this performance in particular. I really enjoy your breakdowns.
33 - Endless Story)
Great Band and a great reaction.
It's amazing how Band-Maid has rewritten the laws of nature: Hate brings Love! 😖--->🎀--->😍

The best band on the planet
🤘 to get to witness this display of absolute badassery in person is a highlight of my life.
Going back to see them in Japan in Osaka in July on my birthday.
In Japan, rock and metal have not only survived over the years, but also developed a lot, forming many new directions, such as visual key and many others.
