Bruh how did I end up here? Not sure how I got here, but I'm glad this random video popped up. The owner seems 100% honest. That is so refreshing to see today. I subscribed to a mattress channel on a random Thursday night, and now I'm watching mattress videos. Like WTF? but I like it.
I'm buying my next bed from you no doubt about that. Spencer is a man of honor so he deserves my business. Now, I really would like to see is Spencer directing a Duxiana bed and hear his thoughts.
This video was so helpful to me! My friend gave me a Beautyrest but when bringing it over, they shoved it into their car and it arrived all jacked up. We were going to throw it away because it felt significantly damaged, but thanks to this video I knew what the inside would look like and so I cut open the bottom and it turned out a bunch of coils had simply come unglued and were lying sideways on top of other coils. Pushed them back into place and it's like new!
We bought one a year ago. Exchanged it 3 times hoping for the right fit. We wasted $5k . However, you give us hope! We'll check into having our Mattress rebuilt so we can retain those triple wound springs. Wish you were about 800 miles closer. Thank you!
I wish I would have thought of this before sending my mattress off to the trash. We bought a Sealy from Costco and it's the worst. I'm thinking of getting the cheaper version of this Black since you still get the good springs and eventually if it takes a dump, I'll have it rebuilt as well.
My first beauty rest lasted 18 years, very comfortable. I’m on my 3rd one, #2 had all that memory foam and they took it back as a warranty claim I hated it. I requested a mattress with no memory foam and i love it. on year 5. Very happy
This just randomly appeared in my feed and I laughed, because among major purchases I've done, buying a mattress ranks up there next to buying a car, as the things I most hate to do. I've had hybrid, double pillow top, Tempurpedic, conventional. Most didn’t live up to the hype. Even what I have now, a Winkbed plush, is uncomfortable without a foam topper. I'd never spend five grand on a mattress. The high price, as Spencer has so easily demonstrated, does not equate to comfort! Great video!
I needed this. We are being aggressively sold by every mattress store on these beautyrest blacks. They are so overpriced compared to their other lines.
@randomrazr we believe they are, yes, they have refined their methods over the years making the best memory foam in the industry. However not everyone loves the feel of memory foam mattresses
Latex foam is my favorite. I really can't stand memory foam but latex foam is sooo comfortable lol. Nice to know places still exist that make mattresses!
Wonderful video. I really hate shopping for a mattress because alot of these sales people try to BS me into what i DON'T WANT & NEED! So I have to study well before making a major purchase. And its so true most of these companies cheat the public. Years ago there was no such thing as buying a bed without a box spring, in fact the box springs were made of steel not like today cheap wood. And growing up in the late 1960s & 70s my parents never had to replace beds in our household. That may have occurred like after 10 years or more. So today unfortunately i must make very wise purchases
Very informative video I almost bought K class today but now swayed away in favor of Chattam. I thought thicker the mattress with more material the longer last it would be but you proved a point with lesser foam material and more coils like the traditional mattress that I prefer from old school, thank you
Cannot tell you how informative this video is. I purchased a mattress just over a year ago through matress firm. It was supposed to be a firm, but ended up being like a marshmellow and it is the worst mattress I've had the misforturn of sleeping on. After a month it sank in the middle leaving me to flail in order to get out of bed. The Black by Beautyrest was recommended, but after your tear down it looks like I'd be having the same issues trying to get out. Such a beautify with the coils in the Beauty Rest, but there is just too much foam on the top. Why not just have the coils do the job? I'm looking for a mattress that is firm but not rock hard. I absolutely want the coils. I'm old, I have arthritis, a bad back and knees. I recently slept on a Beautyrest Recharge - Trevor matress. It was wonderful, but I see it's discontinued. What mattress would you recommend for my broken old body?
I just went to the mattress firm store and tested every single mattress in the store and the beauty rest pressure smart 2.0 hybrid was by far the most comfortable bed in the store on the floor
Thank you Guys for doing this video, and getting the word out. We purchased a Beautyrest Black C class Mattress with the foam top layers for $3000.00 in July of 2022. In less than 6 months we were experiencing very noticeable sagging. We found that the warranty only covers sagging of at least 1-1/2”. We are already more than half way there. This mattress is suppose to last 7-10 years. We are so uncomfortable sleeping on this bed that we are going to go back to the mattress we had used prior to buying the Beautyrest. Now we are stuck with a very expensive mattress that we can not even sleep on. We are so disappointed and upset that we intend to tell everyone about the low quality and bad service we have received from both Beautyrest and Macy’s. STAY AWAY FROM MACY'S ! Any advice to resolve this issue would be Helpful.
Thanks for your review/experience. I've severely damaged my back, so bought a hi-end solution about 18mts ago & the springs are giving me so much grief - making my hips & back worse than ever. I was seriously considering a BR K-class, but having seen this - as much as I like the springs, the rest of it, all the synthetics creep me out. I'm not going to anti-up another ton of money I don't have for something to keep me awake at night, impinges my mobility & makes me feel worse than ever! And - double WOE! I'm in Australia, so goodness only knows what solution there might be. Hope you found a sleepable solution!
@@SmallWonda hey Im in Australia too, and recently bought a mattress from the BedShed. Bad mistake. The mattress was hard across the middle and aggravated my medical conditions. Do you know of anywhere in Australia like these guys, who make their own mattresses??
From watching this video if I was you I would order a new zipper case than cut it out and put it all in a zipper case with LESS foam on top. You will make that bed much nicer as he suggested.. One layer on the springs than the comfort top.
Wow, thank you for dissecting the bed. Very informational! Is there a brand that sells mattresses worth your buck? I'm looking for mattresses closer to the plush side.
Owned a pair, one for wife and I and one for guest. Three years after we bought replacements for 1/3rd the cost and still sleeping on the cheap stuff 6 years now.
This is excellent! Already I see you answering my Questions - ! What with all the foam & what happens to it, 2: Why all the talk about COOLING - is it because the mattress is full of SYNTHETICS which are horribly sweat-inducing (& I tend to be very sensitive to chemicals) & 3, what happens when the structure begins to shift or break down... I'm only up to 5:45, but I'll bet I can't get your mattresses in Australia! And my back is wrecked... Very valuable demo here, guys, thanks a bunch.
I was a consultant to a major mattress manufacturer based in Southern Calif. for 5 years. They sold their beds to employees at cost. I had a friend ask me if I could get him a bed, so I said I'll check. He told me the bed he wanted and it retailed for $1200.00. This was back in the early 80's. I was really shocked when my employee price for that mattress was $180.00. The mattress industry has ridiculous markups. That 5000 dollar bed in this video probably cost them 600 to make. That's just a guess, but I'm probably not far off, might even be less. The hearing aid industry is just as bad, or worse. In my marketing class in college we were assigned to pick an item and research it and give a presentation about it in class. A kid gets up and talks about hearing aids and how a pair of hearing aids sells for $500.00 and the cost is $25.00. The professor stopped him right away and said, that can't be right, where did you get that information. The kid says, it's my mothers business, she sells hearing aids. The look on the professors face and the faces of the class were the same, total shock and it was audible. My first thought was, that's kind of disgusting to have that kind of markup on a item that people with a hearing problem can't live without. I'm sure my professor had the same feeling. So much so that it took him a few minutes to soak that all in before he was able to read out the name of the next student. This took place in 1971. If you disregard the shock of that markup you can sort of justify it by the fact that hearing aids weren't selling to mass markets. So if you had a retail building and sold just hearing aids, you needed a healthy markup to stay in business.
That adhesive did not bond the layers very well, it peeled away with little or no effort. Almost as if it was applied and had time to dry before the next layer of foam or micro coils was added. No surprise that things shifted so badly.
We don’t use this type of glue, but totally possible it wasn’t made quick enough. Our guess is it was but the glue is a poor quality only because beds are typically made fast on a production line… thanks so much for commenting!
Returning my Black L Class after only a week because it was a) super uncomfortable but b) in transit (when the movers carried it upstairs) what I presume was from the lack of glue caused the inner foam toppers to slide around resulting in a visible lump on one side😮
Unbelievable, but as you can see, shoddy im construction can lead to lumpiness. Every matttress should be able withstand a move, even a rough one. Especially one this expensive! Thanks so much for supporting us watching!
Oh god, now I'm scared. Literally just purchased the C-Class Medium Firm/Lux Firm mattress... then I find this video :D I didn't see the K-Class model at our retailer, only the C-Class. And this mattress appears to be the Plush version. I'm a back sleeper, so I was leaning into a firm mattress. My wife preferred not to go with a firm as she sleeps on her side, so we went the middle version which is supposed to be rated for both back and side sleepers; named Luxury Firm at the retailer we have here in Canada, or Medium Pillow Top when looking at the US website. The margins can't be that thin as we got a $4k+ mattress for more less than half the price during Boxing Day promotions. Time will tell I guess, and hopefully the construction is better than the one in the video. Thanks for these types of reviews, it's pretty cool to see the guts of what we sleep on these days.
Hey @roryfeeney6972, that suck ... so the jury is still out as we've had the mattress for only 2 weeks, and it's on the floor while we wait for the new bed it will be set up on. Our mattress, even though a medium firm, it still has a pillow top to it. The pillow top is definitely remembering my sleeping form. I'm tempted to go back to the store to lay on the firm again as I thought it was still soft. The problem now is if we swap the mattress now, it will cost us an additional amount as the sale is over. So we're going to give it a good couple months before that decision has to be made. We're still struggling with sheets too. But otherwise the construction is holding up, unlike the one in this video.
@@dougfraser7635 - Hoping you are enjoying your bed. I have C class. Bought it in November 2022. I think I got the plush, but it is still firmer than I would like. I just wanted to jump on because their video appears to be misleading even with some good old fashioned fear mongering. lol... I almost spent over 5k for the beautyrest black. So glad you made this video. Can you recommend a great quality innerspring or coil mattresses. Its difficult to find a good quality mattress these days and I do not like regular memory foam matresses at all. I even tested the high end stern and foster and hated them. Too soft or to hard etc. Please Help🙏
Thank you for reviews, You guys are great for dissecting the product and very fair. Beauty rest hospitality collection now has double sided wrapped spring mattress. Hope you can open up flappable mattress on a show. Seems this idea is retro from the post WW11 days?
I bought a Beauty Rest Black about 7 years ago or so. It took a few months to get used to since my old bed was about 25 years old and i wasn't used to memory foam. I've had zero issues, no sagging at all. Maybe they made them better back then? It still feels like they day i got it.
@@bigd1157 these jades are made at multiple factories and and change year to year, we are typically big fans of beauty rest. We have a new beauty rest cutting open mattress video coming out this week. Thanks for connecting!
Can you guys talk about mattress toppers that mimic the feel of this bed? Despite the shoddy craftsmanship of the black series I really like them, but decided to go with a Casper a regret it because it’s not soft enough for me.
Great review. I too, do not want a mattress that is over stuffed. Layered. It is hot, and to plush, you sink in and fight to get out. Many beds do not have edge support. I question why they, for the most part, stopped making mattress that are flippable? I also question the top material. Not as durable as 60's and 70's. Plus the lack of handles.
3:58 I'm just wondering about how there is only pennies to be made by these mattress companies. I just looked it up and it says a $3,000 mattress could cost as little as $300 to manufacture. I know there's shipping and other costs involved but a 1,000% markup seems like it would be more than pennies.
Great explanation by the boss thanks. I bought an ebay mattress 5 years ago and it's been pretty good. Cost was around 200 usd for a queen. Has foam layers etc.. Top layer has a permanent depression from my body about 1/2 inch deep but still ok for me.
Hello and thank you for your very informative and revealing information! I and I would think others would like to see you open and review the popular Saatva Classic Matress.
@@sarahd1731 We have had our Classic Firm for 10 months. We are looking to replace already. Side is breaking down and getting notice sag where we sleep. It's like sleeping on the side of a hill and roll down into the valley. Very disappointed in this Saatva.
Thanks for your video. I have a Costco Kirkland's Stearns and Foster euro pillow top mattress that arrived with the pillow top 1 inch off-center and now I know why. It seems they make all these beds the same way. Mine is even worse since it has crappy batting in the pillow top that causes it to bunch up in the center. It seems a lot of people have the same issues based on the reviews and your reviews show why. In my case, it must have also been caused by the extremely poor handling by the delivery people who I watched literally dragging this very heavy mattress down the streets and up 3 flights of stairs. And not by the handles. I'm sure this happens to a lot of people.
Good on you for showing us whats inside! Its about time there is some justice. These mass produced mattress.companies are now a bit of a rort. I was thinking of cutting away my mattress and replacing the top layers. Is there anyone in Australia like you guys??
Another random viewer here, but fascinating to watch! Thanks a bunch guys! I bought a beautyrest black mattress a couple years ago and it's gotten significant dips in it already. I can see from your video and others where and how it is likely going bad. I also started watching these DIY videos for repairing my own mattress and am determined this is the last mattress I will buy. The coils do look good and a decent base to keep building on -- we will see! So far it looks like I might need to plunk down approx $500 (queen size) for a new cover and latex layer on top of the coils, which seems to me like a worthy gamble. It's just too bad my original cover didn't already have a zipper, but I could imagine how much cost it would add, given how they were already skimping so much on the glue!!! Also likely they didn't want me peeking inside and maybe getting tempted to replace a layer or two LOL.
Just purchased a beauty rest black exquisite edition, had no idea what i was looking for and strictly went for the besuty rest brand because of aesthetics and price , i assumed it must be good , i guess ill soon find out lol
I’ve got the “firm” version of the Beauty Rest Black with a nice and affordable pillow top added on. I expect that we’ll replace the pillow top when it gets worn out, but I’m optimistic that the mattress will last a long time. We did this by accident, liked the firm mattress when we bought it but after sleeping on it for a week we decided that it was a bit too firm. Lots of different options for pillow tops allowed us to get something that was just right for us. If I ever need to buy another mattress I’ll do something similar, firm mattress with a separate pillow top.
This video just connected so many dots as to why my experience with Beauty Rest black was what it was a few years back. We ended up getting ours warrantied out, and swapped to Sterns and Foster. SF was better, but still similar issues.
Very interesting and pretty sad for so much money. I do have a saatva luxury plush and there’s nothing plush about it. I have fibromyalgia and it is like sleeping on a board. If I may ask because I am at the breaking point of trying to figure out what mattress would be best for someone with fibromyalgia? Oh and one that won’t sink in, that will hold up for a long time. Ty
@@kiwijonnyboy I purchased a premium all Talalay organic latex mattress from PlushBeds that failed in two years. Their was a two inch dip in the bed where I slept. I only weigh 160 lbs. After much back and fourth with the customer service manager, they decided to send me a whole new mattress. I have had the new mattress for less than a year, and it already has a one and a half inch sag, and my back is starting to hurt again. I have a top quality solid foundation, so that is not the issue. So in my experience, it looks like the life of latex is one to two years, and quality Talalay latex is very expensive. Also, in my experience the latex has a very dense, rubbery feel even in the plush layers that I did not find comfortable, and often woke up with pain in my hip and shoulder even with their plushest firmness level mattress. Just some things to consider before you buy latex. I am as of today still in search of a comfortable, long lasting mattress. It seems like trying to find a unicorn.
I bought this bed last year. I wish I didn’t get the pillow top. Watching this video to try to figure out if it’s worth trying to cut it off. Sounds like I just need a new bed at this point
Hi Joe and Spencer, can you do a video about disassembling an all-foam in-a -box mattress? An all -foam mattress manufacture in China is negotiating with my father wanting him to be the sole sales agent in North America. my father want to know more about what the market is like for this type of mattress. Thanks!
I bought a Beauty Rest Black flat top medium firm. The black is known for its cooling properties. I have had it 7 months and I don’t think it is very cooling.
Thanks for sharing! Perhaps it’s all of that memory foam, at the end of the day polyurethane and foams aren’t going to breathe even if they feel cool to the touch. So it’s likely not cooling at all.
I don’t want to feel the coils below me. I bought a Beautyrest Black CX medium firm. It is too firm. Wish I had bought a plush, but was told to buy the firmest mattress that. I could tolerate as a softer mattress would wear out quicker.
Hello everyone, these videos are great, anyone pursuing a new mattress, please try Stearns and Foster. I purchased my first King size Stearns and Foster in 2001, never an issue, nothing but comfortable sleeping and rest. I purchased my second sterns and Foster, different size in 2008. Absolutely the most comfortable for me, I could ever expect.
@@Jim-qc6gu yeah but not everybody can afford it. Luckily I had the Sterns & Foster refurbished queen size mattresses, and yes it's heavenly sleeping in one. Y knew this local guy who ran a bedding store and he used to sell them to me for $475 mattress and boxspring....but he closed this past year, i still have the 3rd bed i got from him....But to buy it new, no way I can afford it
I was given a Stearns Foster mattress a couple of years old. They threw it out because it starts to sag quickly, and ruins your back. I will sleep on the unused half until it sags and trash it. Many posts on the internet from angry buyers, who tried to claim on the warranty because of the sag, and the warranty rules say that this is not a problem sag. (does not sag when no weight on it!) So people give them away and buy another brand.
Check out www.SpencerandParker.com the Cottoncare mattress pad. It’s not a protector but a cover/pad that is breathable but it ain’t cheap… we just started providing this as an e-commerce product. Let us know your thoughts on it. Maybe you’ll be our first online purchase! If you are we’ll throw in a free pillow!
I purchased a Beautyrest back in 2019 that was just below the Black series. It lasted less than 18 months before it completely sagged and springs could be felt. Then the utter BS of the Beautyrest warranty came into play. Because I got the mattress on sale, the Beautyreast warranty didn't replace with a comparable mattress, but one of similar price to the discounted price. The replacement is utter garbage. Basically while shopping for a new mattress I have the mantra of NO Simmons, Serta, Beautyrest or Tuft & Needle.
No wonder BOTH of my hybrid black x mattresses failed in the past two years. The beds pretty much separated internally, and now I know why! They cheaped out on the cheapest part in the entire bed, friggin GLUE! lol. One of these days I'll be rich enough to order a custom bed.
It's kind of crazy, really isn't it? That we spend some of the MOST important times of our living in bed, yet we often are looking for a cheap, easy solution! I suppose in theory we should be looking for custom mattresses, especially with spinal injuries - & even before that I had the hardest time trying to get a comfortable night's rest... I'm desperate - so what to do?
@@eurekaelephant2714 Possibly a good idea - I need a step to climb in already! I did manage to get out & find a decent new replacement - it is hand-tucked and pretty comfortable. I found if the linen, like fitted sheets & protector, are too tight, that causes issues, too many layers over a crafted mattress & you lose the benefit of all that design. I have just discovered too, that if the pillows are laid flat rather than on their sides to support the spine when trying to sleep 'sitting up' makes a surprising difference. Getting a new back would probably be the best option! Thanks for your suggestion.😉
Spencer, can you recommend a mattress for a couple who are around 145 lbs/ea and 68 years young? We just purchased a BeautyRest Carbon Medium mattress, but it's already sagging where each of us lay. Since we also purchased an Ease Adjustable Base, we'd like to take advantage of the independent nature of it and now buy two twin XL mattresses. We don't like the feel of memory foam mattresses and we do like firm edges. Thoughts?
About 10 years ago I was in Sears having watch batteries put in and saw it in the matteress department. I laid on my back and was woken up a hour or so later. Too expensive but extreemely comfy. Maybe they need horse glue.
Hey guys, this was really interesting. Being the ancestry guy in my family I wonder about strange things. What kind of bed would my ancestors have slept in being from South Texas and Northen Mexico in the 1700s, 1800s and early 1900s. There were probably differrent levels of mattresses available for different budgets. I remembe visting my relatives in Mexico in the 60s and having to sleep on a 2 or 3 inch thick mattress on a cement floor and a pillow made of rags. Did you guys ever do any historical mattress videos?
We are currently in our trial run on a BR black C pillowtop plush. Its been a few weeks now and its so firm compared to the store model. We exchanged to this from a Posturepedic firm. It looks like this will be sent back as well ugh. We slept on a Jamison hybrid pillow top which was HEAVEN for 15+ yrs until it finally started putting us in a hole. I was so sad. We haven't found a bed that compares to that awesomeness since. We did get a Jamison from a factory warehouse place and it was NOT like the old quality. We both want some softness but not something that will put us in a hole after a few hours. I'm beyond frustrated. This BR was sooo expensive from Mattress Firm. We are side sleepers with some low back and shoulder pain. Not sure what to get now ):
Great Video ! We bought the King L- Class Plush Pillow Top from RTG. It sagged almost immediately. I implemented the RTG 90 Love it or Swap warranty. Upgraded to CX-Class Hybrid. So far Awesome, no sagging or shifting,, but we Just got it so we will see. Interesting note, on these Black Series Mattresses, they have a Color Stripe on top of them indicating what level they are. Black Stripe = L- Class, Red Stripe = C- Class, Gold Stripe = K Class. K Class being the 'best' with those little coils layer like we saw in the video. Mine is a CX-Class Hybrid, per the Box and TAG on the mattress. But, the mattress actually has a Gold Stipe on it...... Maybe a mis-label and I got lucky by buying a CX -Class but actually have a KX- Class? I will report back in a few months if this sags.
How is your mattress treating you after 4 months? We unfortunately bought one last month and I'm starting to have buyer remorse from watching videos like this one. So far no sagging though but we only have 2 more months to return it.
@@brendameI have this mattress, it is good while it lasts. Firstly, this mattress is really really hot, so if you are a hot sleeper, you would not like this. In like a bit over a year, the top memory foam is not flat anymore and I think in a year and half, my husband (170lb) start to get back pain because where he slept, it sags and has no more support. It is not worth the money and I definitely would not purchase again…it did not even last longer than my college coil bed, lol
Super interesting. We purchased a BR-B hybrid a few years ago before we found your videos. So of all the mattresses you manufacture - which one do you suggest we look at to replace our BR-B hybrid on the adjustable base?
In general the BRB hybrid is pocketed coils with memory foam or some other foam, it doesn’t look like it has much latex. In terms of lines we make.. we would suggest our “Loving Sleep”, “Churchill and Smith” or “Integrity Doctors Care” all three of these have latex with pocketed coils. Each one has a different feel though. Where are you located? Thanks so much for watching!!!!
This was a awesome video and you guys are awesome. Thank you for being 100% honest. There aren't vids like this. I've been shopping for a mattress and this helped so much. Than You.
I had one of these. It began to sag in about 8 months. One of the things they told me that it had a better warranty so less sagging allowed. They were right and warrantied it without a problem. But the next one lasted just over a year. Same problem. For that price I was not going to just live with it. The store did warranty again but only gave me in store credit. I bought my 1st memory foam but a different brand. The store sold many brands. But I had to use up the rest of the store credit to buy pillows and sheets etc. In one way it sucked buying overpriced extras but in another way I was able to use the beds for almost 2 years without paying for it ( sort of ). Memory foam was great no problems lasted till I sold it because I was moving to another state. Bought another memory foam and am still happy. At least the store took care of me with the credit instead of nothing or too bad. I know we should not have to feel a person got lucky, but it seems like greed has made manufacturers that way now.
I worked for a major mattress manufacturer, I was a truck driver and delivered all over a well known Northeastern U.S. city. I know all too well how the mattresses are made what they cost to make, and what major retailers, mom and pop shops paid for mattresses.
This is a very nice mattress the best in my opinion! They just need to come up with something to prevent the inner layers from shifting. My sister has this mattress and I purchased the Stearn and Foster Cassatt Ultra Plush the inner layers shifted into a big mound in the center of my bed. I opened it up and the glue failed, the memory foam failed and has only 2 layers of memory foam and those stupid coils. Overpriced!!!
This was a Black, but did you say what series this is? The higher lines are more expensive due to the 2nd row of springs. With the Series 1 or 2, you don't get the second set of micro-coils. I'm curious if you'd think that would be a better value, factoring in the build quality and likely similar materials. The Series 2 is ~$3500.
Wait, is that a roll of low melt polyester fiber I see in the back!! ☹️ but I do see some latex foam, but it does not look like all natural latex? So where do you have a video of exactly how you build your mattresses?
Did he just say the mattress companies make pennies of profit on every mattress? There are so many mattress stores everywhere, and I heard that the reason for that is that they make so much money that they basically use them as billboards. So which one is it, it’s highly profitable or it isn’t?
@@moe47988 great question, we’ve had a few now on this comment- here’s an answer from Spencer. “Making mattresses is a highly specialized skill and in manufacturing sometimes we have to sell mattresses at our cost or just a little above to keep the staff busy when times are slow but all in all retail Mattress stores make a much higher margin than manufactures too. Don’t get me wrong manufactures make profit when times are good When times are bad we keep our skilled labor, workforce employed, turning goods until the profit structure improves. Sometimes it is pennies, but not all the time. Sometimes we sell them at a loss, but for the most part manufacturing mattresses is profitable.” Thanks for watching and commenting, we appreciate it!
Curious as to whats actually inside the micro coil layers? Are their actually little coils inside it, or air ? Because it just looks like large bubble wrap ?
Hey Guys! Love the video. Do you guys know if the firmness level options on the black is due to the springs being different or the foam density used? I have a C-Class Black, however, it is hard as a rock. We got it less than half of retail value through one of those wholesale scratch/dent type of places. I am considering opening it up, pulling out all the foam and putting a nice 3" latex topper on the springs. My concern is that it is going to make the mattress even stiffer.
Hey jonny boy, we don't know for sure unless we were able to actually open up each model. Our guess would be a combination of foam density and layers of materials being used. A firmer model may have less layers and/or higher density foam. Putting latex in there could do the trick, anyway you could put it on top of the foam that's already being used, but it's always a risky move but could work. Good Luck! Thanks so much for watching and for your support!

We'll check into having our
Mattress rebuilt so we can retain those triple wound springs. Wish you were about 800 miles closer. Thank you!
If you find a local mattress maker, they should be able to do that easily.
I requested a mattress with no memory foam and i love it. on year 5. Very happy
@@RobShutt357 love to hear this, they typically have great beds. Thanks for commenting!
They are so overpriced compared to their other lines.
thanks for letting us know and glad you know better! thanks for watching!
are tempur pedics good?
@randomrazr we believe they are, yes, they have refined their methods over the years making the best memory foam in the industry. However not everyone loves the feel of memory foam mattresses

Appreciate your frank and honest comments giving credit where credit is due. Seems like a very unbiased video. Good job!
I thought thicker the mattress with more material the longer last it would be but you proved a point with lesser foam material and more coils like the traditional mattress that I prefer from old school, thank you
Then go for Vispring
Fr, I felt the same way
It seems like the owner guy was honest about the materials used.
That’s really disappointing to hear. I’ll follow up with Spencer and see what he thinks you can do to remedy this.
leave some human shaped weights on it until it sags past the warranty mark
That's why we got afirm mattress then added a nice top to the mattress.

a random recommendation but I ended up watching the whole thing, very informative and educational. the owner seems like an honest man.
My first purchased bed was a Queen size Simmons from Sears. It was nice and firm.
Absolutely love our Beauty Rest Black. Would highly recommend and would buy again.
We agree on synthetics!!! Thanks so much for watching. Wish we could send you one of ours to Australia!!!
Great share, thank you! Thanks for commenting and watching we appreciate it. Greed may end us all

i'm in canada but thank you for posting this video. gives a lot more insight into mattresses and how they're made.
We bought a Tempurpedic hybrid memory foam and air mattress 15 years ago. Still very comfortable.
This is why you should always keep your ideas to yourself, write them down, draft them. Never blurt out a creative idea like he did @ 12:00.
This can happen in any mattress. Only mattresses that has tufting throughout prevents inner layers from shifting
Hows it holding up for you? My BR Black Medium has severe sagging after 3 weeks.

I too, do not want a mattress that is over stuffed. Layered.

I question why they, for the most part, stopped making mattress that are flippable?
I also question the top material. Not as durable as 60's and 70's.

Very honest video. More layers doesn't necessarily make a better mattress.
3:58 I'm just wondering about how there is only pennies to be made by these mattress companies. I just looked it up and it says a $3,000 mattress could cost as little as $300 to manufacture. I know there's shipping and other costs involved but a 1,000% markup seems like it would be more than pennies.
That is what happened to mine (collapse). Looking here to see if I can fix. Was only on edge a little while.
Great explanation by the boss thanks.

I have a select comfort number bed and I love it. What are your thoughts about it?

Consider latex over springs. Simpler the better. Research Talalay latex and compare to memory foam.

(does not sag when no weight on it!) I purchased a Beautyrest back in 2019 that was just below the Black series.

@@eurekaelephant2714 Possibly a good idea - I need a step to climb in already! I did manage to get out & find a decent new replacement - it is hand-tucked and pretty comfortable. Did you guys ever do any historical mattress videos?
We are currently in our trial run on a BR black C pillowtop plush. Its been a few weeks now and its so firm compared to the store model. We exchanged to this from a Posturepedic firm. We haven't found a bed that compares to that awesomeness since. We did get a Jamison from a factory warehouse place and it was NOT like the old quality.
@@spencersmattress do you have a Spencer’s out in Illinois or can you ship a mattress to Illinois?
What mattress should I get? Need a king size, firmer, non toxic material, and helps keep cool
In any major city, you can likely find a mattress manufacturer. They will almost always build you a better mattress for a much lower price.
How about reversing the mattress ? Will it give more closer contact to the coils instead of cutting off the topper ?
Its probably too late but you could have kept the coils, upgraded the matress at the shop and gifted it to a needy local family.
So how long or how old is the mattress? If it's old it might just be time to replace. Is it new? Or just worn out.
Wait, is that a roll of low melt polyester fiber I see in the back!! ☹️ but I do see some latex foam, but it does not look like all natural latex? So where do you have a video of exactly how you build your mattresses?
Please! I like to see mattress from Casper . Thank you. Nice video. A R . N C
If you check out or videos, the very first one we opened was a Casper. Check it out and thanks for watching!
I like heat tempered springs more than chemically tempered springs in the br.
Excellent presentation, thanks!
Sometimes we sell them at a loss, but for the most part manufacturing mattresses is profitable.”
Thanks for watching and commenting, we appreciate it!
Curious as to whats actually inside the micro coil layers? Are their actually little coils inside it, or air ? Because it just looks like large bubble wrap ?
Awesome video!!!
Thank you!
How about beds for the sleeper in an 18 wheeler?
Spencer - can you please recommend a mattress store in the NY area?
@@tomcat0701z2 NY is big, where are you located?
@@spencersmattress I’m in Westchester County, NY.
Just buy a latex hybrid with GOLS Dunlop latex over coils. Then get a Talalay latex topper.
if you like latex, that may be a winner! thanks for the comment!
Maybe using memory foam instead of latex might not make it stiffer?
Which C class black did you get?
I'm replying here because your comment aligns with my issues....
Wath brand of mattress you make and sell??
