I seriously LOVE Sonic Gems Collection. Like, I get its objectively the inferior one between it and Mega Collection, but it's the one I had when I was a kid. It's 100% the reason I love Sonic R and Sonic the Fighters unironically. It's got this 90s, in your face, pop vibe, and I can't get enough of it. Both collections are fantastic, seeing as how I was mostly into them for the extras that came with them. Even as a kid in the early 00s, I could really play the games on each collection anywhere else. But Sonic Gems Collection's gallery is the reason I got into drawing, and I think without it, there'd be a big aspect of my life cut out. So, I think I'll always remain partial to Gems
@Rando Yaguchi Exactly! I grew up with all the bad sonic games, but they're some of my favorite. I wish they'd revisit the Story Book series honestly. Or Riders 😳
Good to see Sonic R getting some amount of respect. There’s a lot wrong with it, but it’s still a really fun game. Gems Collection as a whole is great, especially unlocking everything in the gallery
@@olilondonisabum7170 maybe because it wouldn't make sense canonically, but they put Knuckles in Sonic 2 back then with the Sonic and Knuckles cartridge thing, so why not do it again with CD?
Was thinking during your “collections” talk that an Advance collection would be amazing, and then you actually mentioned it. Battle technically exists within that series, so it would make a lot of sense if it was included there instead of just in a “weird spinoff” set, would personally throw Pinball Party in there alone. Actually, the Advance Series is also heavily tied to the Adventure Series, so an Advance/Adventure collection with a Definitive version of the Chao Garden (both Adventures sharing a set of 6 Chao Rooms, plus an upgraded Tiny Chao Garden with all the minigames and Jewel Eggs available, accessed by the Chao Machine, plus the Hero Chao obtainable via Emblems and wireless multiplayer) would be something I would easily spend $100 on.
The Advance games cant be rereleased outside Japan (and Europe I think) because THQ owned the distribution rights elsewhere. There are licensing issues with that. I'm pretty sure another company owns those rights now because THQ went bankrupt and sold all their IPS.
@@coolness1768 wouldn’t the publishing right have automatically fallen back onto SEGA, because they are the ones who own the Sonic IP? IDK it’s pretty confusing. But I’m not quite talking about directly porting the GBA versions of the game, moreso enhanced versions of those games that have more Screen Realestate to work with than the GBA could provide, rather than doing a Megaman Battle Network Legacy Collection. Besides, the “Upgraded Tiny Chao Garden” comment really does mean upgraded, perhaps with room for 3 Chao, rather than just the one like the original.
I mean, they could do that, but they'd have to change the name of the game as proven by Sonic N (or they changed it there because it's not on the GBA.)
3 cybershell videos, what a month. Sonic origins is looking pretty good. I do have complaints, like I really understand the price for it, but it still feels a little off as a lot bigger sonic games like mania and Generations are way cheaper than a comp, and all this stuff with the deluxe addition is really confusing, but I think I might get it. Not only is it S3&K on the switch, but it has a really interesting sounding story mode as well. It overall looks promising, a lot of new fans have an easy way to play, and it's made by some really cool devs.
I may be wishful thinking, but it would be really cool if the museum coins could unlock bonus games like the 8-bit games or some of the classic spin offs. It would certainly help justify that price tag.
Good to finally see an accesible sonic port. I mainly come from the classic doom community, where (until a few years ago) playing the official ports is literally worse than using an emulator like dosbox. (missing features, broken audio etc) Community ports will always give you more customization/modding ability, but to see id releasing a new port (made by a community member) and to have it be the best way to access the classic games (even if multiplayer/modding is lacking) is incredible. The community ports are still best for freedom but for a casual player the choices, customization and potentially dated graphics will be a turn off which is why modern ports that are accessible are so important. Hopefully, origins will help bring new people into the classic sonic games just like the doom anniversary port.
Honestly this’s a perfectly concise video that illustrates my own thoughts on Sonic Origins. Being that while there is some things to be dubious about (namely the dumb pricing and Denuvo on PC. Like, did they learn literally nothing from Sonic Mania????), what we’ve been shown so far makes it seem like this’ll definitely be a neat and impressive collection that has the definitive version of each game. All in all, with both this and Sonic Movie 2, it actually feels good to be a Sonic fan again. And I can only hope Sonic Frontiers can continue with this trend.
we're reaching the point where a 3D collection would be exceptional from Sega. i was thinking about it not that long ago, SA1-ShTH as one combined package would be an insane value.
@@jytvreal ???? This is literally his only video I’ve commented about him for being back on other than the Sonic Adventure DX video which was almost 2 years ago. I’m not sure what you’re getting at.
My first exposure to classic sonic was the gamecube collection and despite selling and never beating it, I still have a lot of found memories with it. So yeah this and the capcom fighting collection are things I'm looking forward to.
The fact that Cybershell hasn't talked about Origins since release tells you all you need to know about the collection's quality. I guess we'll never see the 'I'm sorry, Sega' video.
@@sleepydudespillow I can say both? but mostly the part with the I'm Sorry Sega part. Cybershell in the latest video confirmed that he didnt do it for laziness and has now to pay because Origins Plus was "confirmed" (at that time that video was posted, Sonic Origins Plus was rated in Korea and no official announcement existed yet so)
Man, as a casual Sonic fan, I can’t tell you excited I am for this collection. A whole lot for the idea of that story mode with added cutscenes to tie one game to the next, but mostly for the ability to instantly retry a failed special stage attempt since not being able to do that was like the thing I hated the most about the classic games. Plus, with the ability to finally be able to play through _all_ the previous games on modern consoles (since Sonic 3 & Knuckles hasn’t been available on consoles since like the Wii days), I’d finally feel like checking out Sonic Mania.
Sonic 3 has been available on Steam this entire time. It was never taken down from there, so I don't understand why people are acting like it's not already easily accessible.
@@HOTD108_ They already said it, but not everyone plays on PC. Plus the version of 3K in this game is widescreen and remastered in the same vein as the other mobile versions, versus the PC version which was just the ROM
I'm very happy we have these ports since the main appeal for these collections is general audiences and older folks who played Sonic ages ago. As a huge fan of Sonic, I've been playing remasters and remakes left and right, and unfortunately this collection serves little purpose to me besides just being the "official" option, but honestly the works of the likes of Sonic 1 Forever and Sonic 3 AIR are better in nearly every way Origins could be
I've thought about a Sonic Advance collection too. I'd include Sonic Battle as it ties into Advance 3 and Pinball Party as it's the only other GBA game left (Sonic Genesis doesn't count). Additionally, I'd include Sonic Pocket Adventure as a bonus game as it's basically Sonic Advance 0. They could add extras like Cream in Advance 1 and a separate Tiny Chao Garden with additional features.
What about adding the sonic rush games too? Idk how it would work a DS game, but it could work with a TATE mode where you spin your monitor veryically, or maybe they just change the way the screens are rendered.
if they ever do it they should make it so that you get all 7 emeralds for all 3 games when you collect it in 1, since getting the emeralds on sonic adv 2 is stupid hard and flat out nigh impossible on advance 3
Honestly this was a pretty fair reaction video on Origins considering the discourse around it rn. I appreciate how you gave your positives and also balanced it out with your nitpicks. Personally I’m really excited for this collection and can’t wait to see how it turns out👍🏿
Thanks for making these videos! I'm not the biggest Sonic fan, but your passion and in-depth info are always engaging, and they encourage me to share my own nerdy interests. I love finding hidden value in the world, and that's what you're so good at doing.
@@The_Mem I think those screenshots are possible of the boss rush modes shown on screenshots of the menu, since they also lack the score counter normally in the UI
They could always use the music from the PC version of S3K. I remember it having a different version of Ice Cap Zone, for a start. It wasn't bad, either. It went for a more bouncy fun snowball fight kind of feel instead of the desolate frozen wastes theme of the one we all know.
As it turns out, those were the original themes, before MJ stepped in as proven by the Prototype found back in 2019 and they actually sound pretty good coming from a Genesis, so officially finished renditions of those songs wouldn't be a bad idea, even if they're just in the sound test or as a toggle in-game (I really doubt they'd rerelease S3K without the Jackson songs, if they were willing to, we would have had way more rereleases of it with the early music by this point)
@@coqito583 I thought people were still debating whether they were the first tracks. One argument I remember is that the only reason the prototype had different music is because SEGA or someone in development weren't sure whether Michael Jackson's music would be able to be used, so new tracks were quickly made up before they finally settled on using MJ's music for the release.
Besides the pricing and Denuvo bs, Origins does look like a worthwhile compilation and I definitely have more faith in this than Ultimate since Stealth and Whitehead are confirmed to be working on it. Especially excited for Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
Really love the even-handed and overall positive thoughts. I was thinking of making a vid myself mildly criticizing the fandom drama but this just, does it and does it in a nice and positive way. This collection is damn cool and worth picking up. There's stuff to nitpick and gripe about (DAT CHART) but the work that is put in here on the dev side is magical and nice. It's worth some kind of asking price. Kinda like the dig at Mario All-Stars on Wii. We're lightyears ahead of that in terms of effort taken to polish up the old games.
Yeah I prefer these more positive videos that actually know their shit about what this entails (like these being the mobile versions and finally giving 3K the same treatment and not seeing them selling mobile games as a bad thing since fans have literally been begging for this for years) rather than stuff slamming it strictly for the price/amount of games, not being the older collections, and focusing on the fact that you can get these versions elsewhere for less, whether it be dealing with gaming on your phone or getting Forever/Absolute/A.I.R.
I’m exited that we might finally have a better sonic collection than sonic jam. Absolutely ridiculous that we haven’t gotten a better collection until now
Reminder that Sonic Jam straight up redesigned the original games with alternate difficulty variants and Mega Collection had hella bonus material. Sonic compilations are kinda good, just saying
I remember buying Persona 4 The GOLDEN with Denuvo still on, I literally COULD NOT PLAY THE GAME. It would lag and crash at random times and when I was checking for my CPU usage it was RIDICULOUS. My computer is not the strongest (it's actually a notebook) but he is MORE than enough (Intel Core I5 10th gen, SSD, dedicated video card, 8 gigs of RAM etc). The thing is I will not buy Origins until they eventually take Denuvo out. I will not put my poor notebook through this type of pain again. Besides, the game is 214 reais (brazillian money currency) definitely waiting for a sale. Have fun y'all, we deserve this beautiful remaster.
"real video coming soon btw" is the last thing he says. Well it's been 2 months, I wonder what "soon" means for Cybershell lol. This is mostly a joke, I don't want him to feel bad or something, I just think it's funny and cute kind of. Like a funny quirk.
I’m a little confused as to how Amy still isn’t a playable character since she was highly requested for Sonic Mania and the people making the collection has experience with modding so it’s not that unlikely to think that they could’ve put Amy in. I also find it really strange that Mighty and Ray were just made for Mania Plus but aren’t in this game so far. I really like the idea of a ton of playable characters so it would’ve been cool to have the chaotix playable outside of Knuckles Chaotix since they were a ton of fun to play as in Sonic 2 heroes. I think this could be an even better collection than the ones before if it could have all these characters but origins still looks great for everything it currently has
I agree! I think Metal & Amy are possible and they’re just hiding it for now. I’m personally hoping for Mighty and Ray with ‘Encore Mode’ available for each of the 4 games. Would add insane amount of replay value!
I would buy any 3d sonic collection as soon as it's announced and I would LOVE to see the advance trilogy officially updated like what they're doing with origins.
Oh snap, Tyson Hesse worked on it too?! Absolutely loved their work! I was iffy after seeing all the blow up about the price but after seeing all the love and support the dev team has for the series convinces me to buy it day one!
Widescreen is great and will be the main reason I get this eventually, but there's too many little details missing from other ports/rereleases and too many missed opportunities of things that one would think would be trivial to include for me to be too excited. That plus the price and inclusion of denuvo means that I won't be getting this at launch for sure
I feel you on this. It's great they're making an easily accessible version of all the games. I'm just glad they're giving classic sonic the love it deserves

I hope that tails gets an update like that. Sprites of tails that were made for sonic 3 looks like he was supposed to have a redesign just like sonic, but they cut that out possibly due to the time they had for the release of the game back in 90s. Hope he gets his complete sheet one day.

Sonic R is actually my second favorite race game of all, and I think it's not a bad game, just too short, but that's all.
I really hope they let us play as Knuckles in Sonic CD, I feel like his movement could work really well with hunting for the machines in the past

I completely forgot sonic battle until now

Waiting for the Sonic Origins Bonus video now
3 cybershell videos, what a month.
Yeah, it is weird seeing him upload three times within a month.

The removal of the "Jackson affiliated" tracks just does it for me. What made Launch Base one of my favorite zones. I'm just gonna wait for a Mania 2.
Mania 2 is never happening.
That fucking Mega Collection music is such a god damn tear-jerker.
we're reaching the point where a 3D collection would be exceptional from Sega.
i was thinking about it not that long ago, SA1-ShTH as one combined package would be an insane value.

Well now there actually is the “I’m sorry, sega” video. Except he isn’t actually sorry

This.
I wonder what is Cybershell thinking about origins now
I was thinking of that too.
@@axelkusanagi4139 What about a separate DS/3DS collection instead?

@@coqito583 Plus, Jessica U. Ingmann has a mod for vanilla S3K that replaces the Jackson music with the PC music
Good ending is we can toggle between both OSTs
@@coqito583 I thought people were still debating whether they were the first tracks.
One argument I remember is that the only reason the prototype had different music is because SEGA or someone in development weren't sure whether Michael Jackson's music would be able to be used, so new tracks were quickly made up before they finally settled on using MJ's music for the release.

Yeah I prefer these more positive videos that actually know their shit about what this entails (like these being the mobile versions and finally giving 3K the same treatment and not seeing them selling mobile games as a bad thing since fans have literally been begging for this for years) rather than stuff slamming it strictly for the price/amount of games, not being the older collections, and focusing on the fact that you can get these versions elsewhere for less, whether it be dealing with gaming on your phone or getting Forever/Absolute/A.I.R.
funny thing is that denuvo is supposed to stop piracy, but for me it's just reason to pirate the game and enjoy it without the malware (which it is).

Well it's been 2 months, I wonder what "soon" means for Cybershell lol. This is mostly a joke, I don't want him to feel bad or something, I just think it's funny and cute kind of. Like a funny quirk.
3:24 this is actually the FOURTH rerelease of sonic 2 on the switch - it was included for the genesis online app as well!
I'd love to see a collection with Heroes. I really want to play that game again.
It's because those characters would need to be created from scratch while this is a souped up remaster. Mania was a completely new game.
@icanttypeoutyournameonmyphone well these are remakes making them open source which means adding in characters is easier is so many regards

I'd personally vouch for bundling Battle alongside the Advance trilogy, since one of Adv3's central villains directly ties back to that game.
I would buy any 3d sonic collection as soon as it's announced and I would LOVE to see the advance trilogy officially updated like what they're doing with origins.

Honestly the fan made Sonic 1 and 2 PC ports I have no idea how to get them to work, so Origins will be my only option for PC 1 and 2
This’ll be the fourth release of Sonic 2 on the Switch, actually. Genesis Classics, Sega Ages, NSO, and now Origins.
That didn't end up too well.
as Najib Osman said, can't wait for the "I'm sorry Sega" stream.
So glad to see you uploading more frequently!!
