@Zak Dwyer I think it was mentioned in the video but this is an excerpt from the link Shellshocker shared: "The variable is pulled from a table where it is usually 0x00?? (where ?? is the value expected). Sometimes this value is 0X7FFF though. This causes a problem because that variable is multiplied and added to a variable that is 0x803E0000. This variable in turn is used to load a value, so it was attempting to load a value above 0x80400000. Without an Expansion Pak, the N64 returns 00000000 which is actually the correct response. With the Expansion Pak, the N64 returns the value at that location. Now SSSV does not check for an Expansion Pak and so never clears the old data on the Expansion Pak. The value returned is usually left over from previous games and most of the time is not an acceptable value. "

I'm quite grateful this game has been receiving more notoriety in recent times. It was a genuinely unique and innovative platformer of it's era that actually dared to do something different with the standard, 3D collect-a-thon formula that many games with far greater budgets had effectively become complacent with. The concept of taking over enemies and utilizing their abilities to help you progress further throughout levels was quite an interesting one, albeit bizarre and unconventional. The increased focus on combat and the attention to design with each respective animal's stats helps to prevent the experience from becoming too repetitive. Some animals are swift, but possess weak damage output and low armor, but may attack multiple times or possess a unique ability to compensate for their flaws. There are also slower, more powerful animals with stats reminiscent of a tank, with high damage output and powerful defenses. I can also appreciate that this game's collect-a-thon aspects, whilst still holding an important place on traversing each level, do not oversaturate the gameplay as a whole. I also feel this game's visuals, while basic and low poly, do feature a certain amount charm and quirk that meshes well with it's self aware, satirical style of writing. The levels have a fair amount of detail put into them, and the various robot animals blocky shapes do seem more of a deliberate design choice on the part of the devs to make them appear more robotic in nature. Regardless, most of not all of the animals in this game have a charming feature or detail that helps them to stand out from the rest of their peers, like the helicopter bunnies that drop bombs from the air, or the missile shooting walruses sporting sunglasses. Ultimately, while not flawless, SSSV is a true obscure gem of a game in every sense of the word. If one could look past it's bland visuals and weird concept, you'll have found one of the most unique 3D platformers of it's respective era. Just about anything it lacks in visual spectacle, polish, or firm beta testing, it more than makes up for in personality, humor, and an overall fun, unique experience that stands out from the rest of the big marquee 3D platformers of it's era. I give it an 8\10.

Do it! It’s pretty rare, or atleast it was when I got my copy, so i’d buy a repro cartridge off etsy or some shit. I ordered one about a year ago out of curiosity for about 30 usd, and it worked perfectly with no issues on my release n64. I also got a Goemon reproduction cart and it works like a charm. If you care about collecting you probably won’t want to do that, but I gave up collecting games and stuff years ago
A game called "Metal Arms Glitch in the System" had an awesome body switch mechanic It's a 3rd person shooter much like Ratchet and clank. You play as a Robot in a whacky Robot World and you can hi-jack enemies.
You and Ross Scott. Both of you fill my fascination for obscure games that end up being hidden gems. In this case I’m actually pretty familiar with SSSV. But because it has such a wall for getting into I’ve never really gotten to deep into it. I loved the review though. You summed up everything I fondly and vaguely remembered about the game and then some.
Something stuck into my head a few years ago about that golden trophy. In Paper Mario 64, there's a tree that has a misplaced hitbox, and hitting this random invisible area activates the tree's animation. Maybe the same happened to the trophy, and it's somehow still possible to get it in the game.
THERES NO WAY MY MAN IS TALKING ABOUT MY FAVOURITE N64 GAME RIGHT NOW!! YES! I rented this game twice as a kid, then forgot about it for 10 years, then spent the next two or three tracking it down.... it is truly amazing. A one of a kind experience on the N64. It suffers from a lot of super hard missions and a few nasty bugs, but there's just no other game like it in my opinion. I'll never forget the journey to find it again, and all the people that looked at me weird when I asked them if they remembered an N64 game where you were a microchip that infested the brain of other robot animals to solve platforming challenges. Finally I typed the right combination of words into Google (on the nthteenth attempt) and saw that beautiful box art. What a moment! It was like a slight headache I'd had for years went away all in one moment. I love this game.
Wow, I remember this game. I played it when I was like 5. It's 10 years ago and I had fun. I remember in 1 level there is a hyena which is laughing. Thx for the video and for the memories!
My sister absolutely loved this game as a kid. I'd want to play something else, but she always wanted to play this. Being the older brother, I usually got my way, but y'know. Can't resist for too long. This was a very difficult game for us as kids, lol. Never got super far.
I remember playing this game as a kid, it was rented on block buster, I was clueless cuz of my no English knowledge but somehow I was still invested and managed to have fun and complete the missions
Yo cyber, you were mentioning games with a similar body swap feel at the end, but notably didn't mention Geist for the Gamecube. If you haven't tried it, you should. It's one of my favorites from when I was a kid; you're a ghost and have to posess objects, animals and people to try to get back into your own body. Similar to SSSV, when you're not in possession of anything, your life slowly drains but you can replenish it by draining plants or possessing someone. Also similarly, each object you possess plays differently to each other, with not just their own abilities but their own personalities, or more specifically, fears. You can only posess a living thing if it's terrifies, which means that once you take control of them, they won't let you move towards the thing that they're afraid of while you control them. It's pretty dope, check it out!
3 years late, but Space Station Silicon Valley is totally a hidden gem. A bit rough around the edges, but really unique for the time. I remember renting it multiple times from the local blockbuster as a child. I think the expansion pack issues, as well as how hard it can be to emulate properly, is partially responsible for it being forgotten to time.
Lol I remember having a dream the night before I got this game and it was almost like a premonition of the game itself. It was so weird. Universe works in mysterious ways...
I remember I had a dream where I was playing a game where I was standing on a window and jumped out, then had my character enter a canned "falling asleep" animation during the fall. Like 6 or 7 years later, when I was playing a game I had that exact thing happen to me in the game, just as it played out in my dream.
Thanks for sharing so much info on this game! One of my cousins had this game when I was a kid, but as young kids new to gaming we had no idea about how much this game had to offer and for some reason we didn’t even know or use it’s name. I decided to call it “Dogman 64” since all we ever did in the game was run around the “space grasslands” as a dog, and obviously “all” games for N64 had 64 in the title. I only saw the game in small amounts while visiting them, but for some reason my goofy cousins themselves didn’t seem to know much about the game or how to do anything in the game they themselves owned lol. But figuring games out was a lot more obscure back then, especially buying used N64 games. U just got the cartridge, no box, no manual, and no Google or TH-cam to help you learn more info lol.
I never owned SSSV, but vague recollections about it have haunted the back alley of my memory for the better part of twenty years. Thanks for helping me remember it!
Always liked the look of this game in magazines as a kid. I'd only get to actually play it years later when I was in hospital overnight having my tonsils out. Thanks Child's Play!

DMA Design’s headquarters was located in the same city I’m from. All there games like Lemmings , GTA and Space Station Silicone Valley are in the Dundee museum. And there is also a lemmings statue in the city
Had the game as a kid and I used to play this every time we would go skiing as a family because as a kid I couldn't figure out how to move one in the game so I would try asking my cousin's for help and eventually we would advance. I have fond memories of this game and I'm happy someone is talking about it
This game is super wierd. I remember trying it out at a local game store back in the day. I didn't buy it though, cuz it was too wierd. Glad you're talking about it. And glad you're back man!!
I loved this game as a kid. In particular I really enjoyed that each stage feels like a sandbox. You have several tools and get to use them to finish the stage. Also the music slaps

I've actually considered buying it 👀
A game called "Metal Arms Glitch in the System" had an awesome body switch mechanic
It's a 3rd person shooter much like Ratchet and clank. You play as a Robot in a whacky Robot World and you can hi-jack enemies.
HE CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS!!!
scam?
??????
The contempt and bewilderment in Cyber's voice when he mentions the 'RAM BUS BUS' tickles the hell out of me.
I also love Tokyo Jungle. Here's to hoping Rockstar makes a new SSSV game soon.
I like that the gorilla is purple.
I'm going to assume they had Bonzi Buddy on the mind when making that.
you know cybershell is just that special when his non-sonic content is just as interesting to watch as his sonic videos :)
Did you know: Super Mario Odyssey actually copied the code for Space Section Silicon Valley
No way? No way!
Where are the receipts?
where
@Darek Młot _oh my h*ck!!!! mario came before sonic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you're wrong!!!!1!11!1!!!_
@@PoorPescado nah i was there, sonic came out first

Good job.
One of the few games that you'd literally be better-off playing on an emulator or an Everdrive with a patched ROM to eliminate its game breaking bugs.
alternatively don't have an expansion pak :)
I played this game from 1998 til around 2005 almost every single day, lol. only bug I encountered was the non collectable trophy.
That was a good game back in the day. I’d play it before school every morning
Damn I’m so early I can’t think of a joke
I KNOW
Packet the real joke is that being early would be impossible
some of those cheat codes would later go on to be used in GTA (the upside down and big head ones in particular)
Daily uploads huh? I'm proud of you
Protip: You can remove the Expansion Pak by using the corner of the lid.
Wait, THIS GAME IS SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY BEFORE IT EVEN EXISTED!!!
Yeees
to basically sum up the feezing glitch is that the game couldn't load EVO's model in those segments
So this is basically the Simpsons hit and run mixed with Mario Odyssey
CYBERSHELL IS BACK ON THE GRIND WE LOVE YOU CYBER!!!
My friend had an old 64 that he’d bring over sometimes when I was a teenager and this was one of the games we’d play together. Very cool concept.
damn daily uploads!!
i give him another week befire he hibernates
I think Toys for Bob have interest in reviving this... Neat.
I don't have an N64.
Or a computer.
Or any emulator.
Sounds like a nice game though.
if your on a android you can download emulators but ios is difficult
But you have a phone clearly so play it on that
Dreamcast Dazia he could be on a smart fridge
@@dreamcastdazia4753 who said I wasn't using the Nintendo Switch?

I CANT FORCE THE CONCEPT OF DAILY CYBERSHELL UPLOADS INTO MY HEAD IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE BIGGER DEAL THAN LIFE ON MARS WHAT EVEN IS
Aw yeah! This is happenin’!
Whenever I hear the track `Snow Joke` from this game, it stays in my head for at least a week.
It’s a trap, he’s gonna upload daily and get us all cracked out, then disappear forever like my father. 😭
It's pretty dope, check it out!
it has this awesome concept but tbh I dont think it has aged well. I would love to see a sequal and try to improve on the first games flaws
Let's ask Rockstar games to make the sequel!
I had a dream that Cybershell returned the day before he actually did.
I feel a shame of the people that don’t know that he’s back...
I hate edits
Ironically, you edited your comment.
@@ozziesmith7696 hehe you funny

I never owned SSSV, but vague recollections about it have haunted the back alley of my memory for the better part of twenty years. Thanks for helping me remember it!
HE DID IT. THE MAD LAD DID IT. HE UPLOADED AGAIN
Always liked the look of this game in magazines as a kid. I'd only get to actually play it years later when I was in hospital overnight having my tonsils out. Thanks Child's Play!
Other games where body swapping is a main mechanic: Messiah (PC)
Mario Odyssey too!
Geist on the GameCube was possession more specifically, but that's pretty close right?
Kind of a jank game at times but I remember it being fun.
20:38 Based on that low-quality PS1 port of SSSV,
I think that Runecraft
deserved to have their Search Results replaced with ,,Runescape in Minecraft" Minecraft Mods.
I’m starting to wonder if you spent the last two years working on these videos.
You reference my interview with the devs. 🎉 Thanks ❤
STOP UPLOADING ITS WEIRD
don't listen to the guy above me
DONT STOP HIM
Kirby Squeak Squad has a ghost power that lets you posses enemies as well!

Standing up, the DMA logo really looks like a guy shrugging. Quite fitting for Cybershell's interrogation.
i played this game all the time as a kid, and played it again a few years ago and i never thought to put the sheep on the dog to make it faster to get them in the pen, i always just did the really slow thing of herding them all in while they were all alive
DMA Design’s headquarters was located in the same city I’m from. All there games like Lemmings , GTA and Space Station Silicone Valley are in the Dundee museum.
And there is also a lemmings statue in the city
i wholeheartedly support you just becoming a youtuber focusing on obscure shit
there aren't enough of the kind that put in as much research as you
Had the game as a kid and I used to play this every time we would go skiing as a family because as a kid I couldn't figure out how to move one in the game so I would try asking my cousin's for help and eventually we would advance. I have fond memories of this game and I'm happy someone is talking about it
This game was my childhood. I could never really solve the puzzles, but I did like grabbing the strong animals and just wrecking everything in my way.
Came for the chao video and you showed me this absolute gem from my childhood. Holy shit
This game is super wierd. I remember trying it out at a local game store back in the day.
I didn't buy it though, cuz it was too wierd.
Glad you're talking about it. And glad you're back man!!
The style is so interesting, it’s like they are all those little minimalistic wooden statues.
I loved this game as a kid. In particular I really enjoyed that each stage feels like a sandbox. You have several tools and get to use them to finish the stage. Also the music slaps
