Is for your tips I had been quilting using the binding method but wanted to learn how to quilt without using binding I believe this is a much neater looking finished product
Absolutely new quilter, well, all I’ve done is watch videos, purchase products and watched lots of youtube videos on the subject. I have lots of ideas for appliqué projects and I’ve yet to TOUCH a piece of fabric, lol! That’s me! I always come back to your tutorials as you teach in a way that I learn-visually. Thank you for sharing your talent.
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead You are a great teacher and semi-motivated to do your stain glass quilt as you have explained so clearly that I don't think I'll be too intimidated, lol! God Bless you for all you do.
Thank you for posting! I am doing a flannel backed lap quilt for a charity project and have never pillow cased a quilt before so the the detail you provided was extremely helpful!
I like how you covered this technique, especially for newer quilters. So often long-time quilters forget that newer quilters don’t know these types of options. Nice clear tutorial (and pattern!).
I appreciate the feedback ♡♡♡ I admit I sometimes forget not everyone is on the same skill level, so I remind myself all the time :) we all start at the same point, I would have loved video tutorials when I first started ♡♡♡ I am so happy I can help answer questions and showing tips!
I just finished my very first quilt using another person's "first quilt" series of videos. My first quilt had a binding, and it was a "booger bear" to accomplish! I think for my next quilt, I'm going to use your method without binding. Thank you for your thorough explanation!
great tutorial. easy to understand and follow. I am attempting to finish my first lap quilt and thought this would be simpler to do as a first. Thank you, Jane
for a beginninger that less than a 1/4" top stitch can be a little had to manage epecially when your already trying to focus onsewing a straight line and make sure that the baking hasn' managed to find it's way to the front. what i like to do is a simple ladder hand stitch to close up that hole first. it sewn right into the fold that you have pressed and won't be seen. during Covid i didn't have a sewing machine and i had to learn how to sew by hand out of necessity. and found that i enjoyed it. and then my husband realized how long it took me to do things by hand and decided that maybe i should have a machine, lol. but i still find that some things should still be done by hand.
So glad you posted this ... I usually add a binding and needed to know how to sew it this way for a little Halloween table runner I made today... Thank you!!
I really liked this tip, I have used this method many times on small projects, it goes faster than traditional binding. I used a chopstick for turning corners,. It works great and doesn’t poke through the fabric. I also used the chopstick as a guide close to the needle to prevent me from piercing my finger, again. Thanks for these videos, you always have great tips.
I just recently found you on youtube. great explanations , clear and to the point, for newbies like me. I also saw the mistery quilt.... Waw.. I am really tempted to give it a go,. I added it to my bucket list. I purchased the birdies pattern. Will not be doing it right now, as I have something else to finish first...but I am really looking forward to start with it. Birdies are soooo cute! Thank you.
Thank you for this tutorial. I bought a paper piecing mug rug pattern and the instructions stopped when the top was completely pieced. I've never quilted anything and it didn't occur to me that the instructions wouldn't include finishing instructions. This looks like a great way to finish it and I've done bags with all of these elements so shouldn't have any problems. Thanks for such a good tutorial. I'm off to finish my mug rug!
Sometimes to keep the cost of the pattern low, design makers will omit the directions for finishing the project - sometimes forgetting that the pattern may be purchased by someone who is just starting in their quilting journey :) Here is another quick and easy way to finish your projects too: th-cam.com/video/eFjIEruIMNI/w-d-xo.html
I really like your videos I'm new to quilting & videos help. I hope you can help me. I'm working on table runner & mats, well my runner came out with 2 corners puckered-i think that's what it is anyway do you have tips to prevent this? I did quilting the shape of runner - rectangle 2" apart & like o said 2 corners puckered. Not stitch as you go i finished 1 rectangle then started another. Advice?
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead I thought so but have never tried it! I've made one for my first great grandbaby. I really am pleased with the border & don't want to alter the look of it.
I have an American flag wall hang I want to use this method with but I need to quilt it. Can I use this method for binding and then quilt it or will that not work?
small little quilts like this...I like to set plants on or use as snack mats. You can wash them over and over....and they save money by not using tons of paper towels! Plus....they are really cute to decorate with
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead him, well I have been sewing a few little things like your tutorial and I am stocked with it. Putting them together as you showed us is so easy. Thankyou so much. I'm still not comfortable with the top stitching but will get there. Going to get a walking foot before I attempt anything like that. From a fan from down under. Lol
when I first started quilting years and years ago, this is how I finished all my quilts. I would highly recommend pinning...pinning and PINNING...tons of pins and make sure all your layers are nice and flat when pinning to avoid any extra backing in the middle.
What a great video! Thank you much. I was able.ti finish a baby quilt following your instructions, turned out beautifully.
Wonderful!

The tip about using the walking foot was genius! Thanks for that!
Glad it was helpful!
I think this will be a good technique for the Barbie quilts I need to make for my great niece. (Only the best for Barbie!) 🤩
Great tutorial, thank you for sharing
I quilted my granddaughters quilt yesterday, using this method. It turned out really well.

I have found leaving the opening a little larger prevents the fabric from stretching when turning it and making it easier to top stich around.
So true!!! ♡♡♡ I don't know why I always make my openings so tiny hahaaa.....
so nice!!!!!
thank you soooo much Carol!
I like your method but I leave a bigger area for turning. It works out very well for me
Lisa I am so new to this. What do you use that for? You are a great teacher, I will be coming back to your channel for more! Thank you
What do you use what for?
Is this pattern still available? Couldn’t find it in your Etsy shop. So lovely
I discontinued this pattern, unfortunately the file messed up :(
Thank you Lisa. I love the birdie mug rug. Are the notes stitched? Could they be done with a permanent marker pen?
Hi Shirley, you could absolutely draw them on with a fabric marker :) These were stitched down on mine with my free motion foot :)
Loved this video
thank you so much Montra!
intrresting
I like it without the binding
Lisa, you might want to use Wonder Clips instead of pins. They are great for projects like this.
That's a good idea Nanny, I have a whole jar of them. You are right, they are perfect for projects like this :)

Would this method work on a crib size quilt?

I have trouble with keeping applique on. So, yours stayed put while turning
I use Heat Bond Lite but it doesnt hold likee yours
Try using a corn dog stick…doesn’t push through the fabric…❣️
lol😂 That is why I don't pin same happens to me
I think I would slip stitch the opening because I prefer not to topstitch
Can you just ladder stitch the small gap? X
sure, that would work as well! My hand stitching needs some practice hehehe
A chop stick is a great alternative. They are free where ever you buy sushi. 🇨🇦
Has anyone tried this on a large lap size quilt?
Would this method work for a larger quilt of about 60 inches x 60 inches?
