    I've done this for baby quilts up to a queen size. One other trick: Find two of your quilt tops that are the same size and use one as the front and one for the back. When you make a reversible, you have one less quilt top to finish!

    I love to quilt. Look up on utube a quilt called a quillow. I’ve made so many when my kids were growing up. It’s quick and so easy and you’ll love it. It folds and makes a pocket on the back to tuck the blanket in and them makes a pillow for the couch. When you cover up with it you use the pocket to tuck your feet in...oh so cozy.

      I've never heard of a quillow. Might have to be an up coming video! Thanks for the idea Carole

    Those came out awesome Scrappy ! I used that technique before. I hate binding, I could never get it to look nice and when I do, i did not like the way it looked on the back. I have been making quilts for 20 years, I like making the top but I just got to the point where i hate quilting them. I had 2 that were unfinished and I sold them both on ebay for a good amount of money, Thanks for another great video. You said you been doing this for 6 years, I have been doing it over 20 years and I am learning from you ! Keep up the awesome videos.

    This is exactly what I needed to see. Thank you ! A few years ago I made a quilt like this but my memory is so bad I needed reassurance. (I used so much batting it was like a sleeping bag, too hot! ) But I’m going to use this method again on three quilt tops I made this Winter . And thanks to your video, I feel more confident.

    This looks like the quilt top I just finished, but mine is white, black and red! I have been stressing about how to finish. This is only the second quilt I made. I think this is exactly what I want to do. I wanted something light weight for summer. It’s a birthday present for my son in a few weeks. Thanks so much!

    Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video! My roommate and I have been discussing this technique. She recently did a quilt about the size you are doing and did the tie off method you use. The quilt is Bunchie around the edges. We speculate its because she started from the middle and work her way out. I notice you are starting on the edge. And yours does not seem to have that problem! What directions do you go when tying off your quilt? Diagonal? Left to right? Randomized? I hope that makes sense! :-) thank you for your time, great Channel! Hope you have a wonderful day!

    Hi! New to your channel and have watched several today. Was looking for a Halloween table runner or topper. Got some really great ideas and your instructions and step by steps are so helpful. Love the sheet backing idea in this video. I have one I'm fixing to retire and this would be a great use for it. On this quilt, do you think it would work to stitch-in-the ditch along several of the jelly roll strips instead of the tying method? If so, would you do that before or after the final topstitching? Love the IKEA idea one of the others mentioned. Now off to find your garden apron mentioned by another subscriber. Thanks!

    • @ScrappyPatch
      @ScrappyPatch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Either would work just fine. Personally I would do the stitching after the top stitching that way you could use the border stitching to travel stitch to the next row.

    Love your channel! Made so many blessing bags after watching your video. At the very beginning of this video I believe you have a crumb quilt behind you. Can you give us more info about the construction of that quilt. I have been making 10 inch crumb blocks and am looking forward to using them in something as nice looking as your quilt.

      It's actually a scrappy strip quilt I'm SLOWLY working on. It's all the leftover strips in my stash, mostly 2 1/2 inch strips left over from binding. I do have a video planned on this quilt in the future, just having trouble finding time to finish it! Thanks for watching Jean!!

    Thanks for this idea... Can you use this technique to bind together but then quilt it rather than tie off? And if yes, any precautions I should take when attacking the quilting stage?

    • @ScrappyPatch
      @ScrappyPatch  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't only because you would have a chance of the fabric puckering and moving around if everything wasn't completely flat.

    Will cotton batting get caught up on pressure foot? Actually I use walking foot.

    • @ScrappyPatch
      @ScrappyPatch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I usually don't have a problem with cotton batting getting caught, just the fluffy polyester.

    When you say crochet thread, do you mean like what you would use to make a doily, or regular worsted weight yarn?

    • @ScrappyPatch
      @ScrappyPatch  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used the stuff for doilies, but you could use yarn if that's what you had. I've used that before. :-)

    Can I ask how you got the large border around the strips?

    • @ScrappyPatch
      @ScrappyPatch  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are 6 inch strips, cut the width on the bolt. I do the top and bottom first. Then I usually have to join 2 strips together for the sides pieces.

    I call this a “pillow case turn.” Although I did not see in your video where you turned the quilt inside out! I do this method a lot with baby quilts. Babies wear out quilts fast; so why bother binding them!

  • @amc5936

    you should have ironed the sheet first to insure that they are flat as possile. a big pain in the a!@ but worth it in the end

      Not really much to the back. I was just trying to show that it had little flecks of black from where I tied it together, but of course the camera didn't pick it up! Thanks for watching Cynthia
