When you were talking about communicating with telepathy and how it allows humans (or conscious things in general) to merge in some sort of hivemind I couldn't stop thinking about it as a language revolution. In a similar sense to the revolution we had when the homo sapiens began to use fictional language to organize bigger social groups together, telepathic communication could allow us to increase our max capacity of social bonds or max capacity of humans in a social group (if the hivemind is still considered a group).
I've had dreams in third person before, and mostly as of late...

Am I the only one who was thinking about the movie The Prestige when they were talking about cloning oneself? Exurb1a's fear of stepping into one of those machines is exactly what Hugh Jackman's character is describing at the end of the movie: "It took courage to climb into that machine every night, not knowing if I'd be the man in the box or in the prestige". Powerful stuff!

This video is incredible but what it did was (as someone who religiously watched Exurb1a but hasn’t as yet checked out mystiverse) was humanise Exurb1a for me.
When I watch Exurb1a I tend to look at him like some omniscient super-scientist who knows all and knows exactly how to translate it to us. Hearing him stumble over his words and even apologise for making some ridiculously good points and “talking for too long” even though we were all deeply enjoying it both made him so much more relatable and made me feel a little bit sad. We’re all just people pretending to know stuff, even the cleverest of us.
Reminder set, now to get my bong and the biggest bowl I can find or maybe a colander... Only 3hrs to get ready

His work is amazing and i will keep the good things i have gotten from him, but I'm no longer supporting him. I'll be spreadin the informaion so more people know about it. After he pays his debt and proves to have changed for good, I'll be happy to support him, but now he's someone who has r4p3d and haven't paid for it.

Amazing Episode, I hope this is becoming a regular thing with Exurb1a :) Note on Moores Law: while it lasted for a few decades, we can see that its coming to an end already, at least for CPUs - as Exurb1a also said. Interestingly, In April 2005, Gordon Moore stated in an interview that the projection cannot be sustained indefinitely: "It can't continue forever. The nature of exponentials is that you push them out and eventually disaster happens."
What Exurb1a also brought to the table is that even though transistors may have an upper limit for miniaturization aka getting faster, a new computing paradigm will come along to continue Moore's law and I think we don't even have to wait for Quantum computing to come along, we are seeing it with the advent of GPUs (aka. massively parallel processing) already.

Around the 20 minute mark, you start talking about how it would be a bad idea or even impossible to erase pain and suffering. It reminds me of a line from “my ordinary life” by the living tombstones. I forget it exactly but it goes something like “when you become untouchable youre unable to touch” and I think that’s exactly what you’re getting at there. Erasing pain means erasing bliss. Ying and yang.

I don't remember ever dreaming in 3rd person but I do remember one nightmare I had where I recreated the memory of it in third person so I could perceive where I was in relation to that which scared me

Little footnote; there is an actual upper limit for Moore's law, and it's physics itself, you can't do transistors smaller than atoms lmao. However, thanks to quantum computing this may be changed and perhaps we will need a new Moore's law to keep up with these technologies.

Commenting and editing as I hear certain talking points.
1. When I was still little (less than 6 years old), I dreamed in black & white and in third-person or static viewpoint (I remember being able to walk "off-screen").
I still remember when my dreams started to be in color, but I don't quite remember my first first-person dream.
After my youth I've only had maybe two third-person dreams (no static view dreams) and zero B&W.
2. I would be willing to die to let an upload copy of me live forever.
Why? I'm going to die someday, whether there's a backup me or not.
If a clone of me, digital or otherwise, can exist beyond my life span. that's cool enough for me.
Obviously I'd prefer for my consciousness to persist forever.
I want to see the universe age and humanity evolve over the next few million years.
Plus, can you imagine how cool games will be in even a few decades? We already have decent VR. Just imagine what's after that.
3. Transhumans, uploaded humans, whatever you want to call them will still be humans at first. But they'll definitely evolve in new ways.

I just want to preserve my way of thinking, emotions and knowledge in some form because I think I would be useful in the future but there is also a selfish aspect and that is to continue to gather experiences. No matter how non-unique it is, it’s something I want. I like the idea of transhumanization. Also 52:15 Yes! Sanboxing my mind... wait, but what if this life is already that? Seems like it. I noticed that this podcast was posted on my birthday. I didn't get a better gift.

Heat Signature is game that has a faction called "The Glitchers", which use and are behind teleportation tech within the game. There's a bit of banter in the game at some point about how they deal w/ it and those kind of questions a bit.
If I'm remembering right, they have a law in their culture that if you get duplicated, you have 10 minutes to kill the duplicate. If 10 minutes pass and you're both still alive, enough time has passed for them to be considered completely different people.
That's an interesting approach.

I have dreamt in the 3rd person before though I remember almost no dreams, theres one that was a horrible nightmare that I remember vividly. It was 3rd person, and gravity seemed to work so either I was in a perspective of a flying object able to easily control its motion on a dime, or I was the dreams camera man.
If you were controlling your own body while looking at it, that would be in the second person
