Plastic Oceans | What is the impact of pollution in the sea?

  • Oceans are silently choking on our plastic waste. Plastic and synthetic debris are having horrific impacts on marine wildlife and systems.

    As an island continent "girt by sea" marine debris is of particular importance for Australia. Creatures get entangled in plastics and drown and ingested concentrated toxins from plastics pose a threat to the health of the food chain. Plastics also transport and introduce species into new environments. Anja Taylor catches up with the CSIRO research team spearheading the Marine Debris Survey, a world first study of the plastics around our coastline.

      Humans are a grey creature. They are both the most compassionate animal, as well as the most ruthless. There are many species saved by humans, as well as species who meet their ends by humans. We kill each other for sport, and torcher our fellow man, as well as give food to people starving in Africa. We throw garbage into our lakes and rivers because of a mixture of ignorance, selfishness, laziness, and it’s cheaper. We as well help animals to live in times when there close to extinction, and give thousands of hours in protecting animals. The world in a way needs humans now to pick up there garbage both literally and figuratively, as well as to stop being so careless. This is not a problem where you can select individual humans, or even groups of humans. Pollution is someone that is a human problem, and a animal problem.

    • @hgfgh7149
      @hgfgh7149 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@John_Dusty your wrong, animals are the most grey, humans are the most conflicting becouse of there choices and actions.

    • @John_Dusty
      @John_Dusty 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      《Raftid 》
      Animals are the least grey thing around. Almost all animals want to do is reproduce, and survive. Humans have a wide array of emotions because of our brains, witch makes us the most conflicted animals. Being conflicted to the point humans are kinda means your gray from the start. Most animals don’t have the brain capability to be grey, because of there inability to think with great meaning.

    Excellent, during the Deluge of SE QLD, January 10th 2011. I saw thousands of pet bottles and plastic bags washing down the creeks to the ocean due to long term littering and high water levels. I abhor this long term damage to the worlds waaterways and oceans. We need a more biodegradable polymer. ASAP......

    A fact that wasn't expressed much in the video, was that indeed, the seafood you eat contains nearly all of the toxins and micro plastic that was eaten by the animal, which gives nearly the same effect that it gives to the animals. Our stomachs are only about the size of our fists, so ingesting so much plastic can seriously harm us as well. I just thought people would be doing something by now, since we only care about ourselves and would notice something. But, I guess not. The only thing being acknowledged is politics. This road of disaster we've driven ourselves into is nearly impossible to escape. Eventually, it will crash, and only then will people realize the damage we've done to ourselves.

    • @thomasgeorge7633
      @thomasgeorge7633 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We might crash sooner than you think. Bacteria similar to Coronavirus has been found on plastic in ocean. On land the virus can be contained, but in the ocean almost impossible.

    • @andreagarcia3934
      @andreagarcia3934 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@numana7785 It definitely could work. The transition to being plastic free is what scares small minded people. A lot of packaging companies have found a great way to create a "plastic" like wrap that looks and feels just like plastic but, its plant based and biodegradable. They are on the right track and soon more people/companies will join together to create and expand their plastic free products. We can definitely improve on the way we package food items in the grocery stores and the containers we use to store personal care items such as shampoo. Same goes for fast food/restaurants and the waste they create. Band the straws and instead sell metal or glass alternatives that people can re use from day to day. Any food packaging boxes or plastic forks and spoons given at the drive thru should be eliminated. Everyone needs to adapt and learn to bring their own cutlery, straws ect. Its a lifestyle change that will help save not just the oceans but, the whole planet. Less trash is being made which is good for all of us especially for the children that will some day grow up and have to find new ways to keep our Earth clean.

    • @jimmccarley3191
      @jimmccarley3191 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For many years we used paper bags, cardboard and paper straws. Then the environmentalists told us to use plastic because we were killing too many trees. I have seen large forest in the great northwest where they strip cut an area and replant it. You look at a mountain and you may see 5 or more different growth stages of forest growth. This is good for the forest, wildlife, environment, and yes logging companies. We could switch back to paper and save a lot of plastic polution but then you would piss off the plastics companies. I use a cloth bag to carry my groceries and that doesn't make a bit of a difference since everything comes in plastic containers. I have a garbage bag every week of mostly plastic going into a landfill.

    The impact of pollution on the sea, in the video it is mentioned about the plastic that is in the sea, one of them is the part where it is shown how they remove plastic from the stomach of a dead bird and it is a big problem globally. death of an incotale amount of animals in the sea due to plastic, something positive is that there are companies that help reduce plastic and thus help the planet and the ocean. We should all clean the environments, and the beaches. So when u see trash anywhere please pick it up because others people won’t so it’s up to u to do so a little bit of help will make a big difference
