Tory, do you like dogs? It may sound dumb but I know that MANY times my dog has saved me simply by being seen and/or by barking. I know you plan on taking your cat with you, and having a dog makes things a little harder while traveling BUT if you get a young dog, raise the animals together they should be very good friends. Where possible fit a steel backing plate on the inside of the body to reinforce the lock. The screws alone are'nt enough to securely hold the locks on during an attack, its only the threads holding it on. With backing plate it then becomes the entire panel holding the lock.
I literally have never done van life but I love your channel!! So inspiring to see you do all your own handy work and showing others how too! I hope this inspires more women to not be afraid to diy their own van build ❤
Use longer bolts and put a washer on the inside and nut totally strong then ,i will lock my doors with bolts on the inside when i am in but also when i go , all just come out one front door the rest will be bolted.
It’s sad that we have to worry so much for our safety these days. I harken back to my childhood when we rarely even locked the doors to our house. I would see about getting a thicker “pin” for that rear door lock and also tethering it so if you drop it, it doesn’t get lost. Feel safe, Be safe Tory 🤗
The Ford Transit Connect vans that I drive for the Red Cross have a wire mesh on the inside of each window, I’m sure they make something similar for the Rams.
Well, the locks will slow down burglars, that’s a good thing. Still leaves the front doors. Two remarks about the installing: 1. Shouldn’t you have used an anti-corrosion stuff for you drillen holes? 2. The turning of the hex-key will go a lot easier without the keys in the lock

Tori, simple answer to your quandary: People are basically LAZY. If they see extra locks, they will usually just move on to an easier target. Also, better to use the bolts with nuts on the inside. Rivnuts throught a single layer often loosen and spin in the hole, making removal a big pain in the a$$.. secondly, invest in a drill stop. It would really suck if you drill through and hit wiring or a plumbing line. Better to remove that possibility completely. All that being said, I'm so glad you are building! Tory look at 3M window film. It goes on like tint and it makes it difficult to smash the window from the outside. It's designed to bid you enough time to gtfo of there it might be something worth looking into!
What phone do you use? Just curious. Also, next time you drill right into a van, put tape over it, before you drill Applying tape to the area where you plan to drill can help prevent the drill bit from slipping and also reduce the risk of damaging the surface. It’s especially useful when drilling into smooth surfaces like a van’s metal body.

The lock is more for visual than being a sturdy lock bc they can be ripped off in like 5 seconds with a claw hammer or pry bar. Kinda same as having a entry door of a house with big window in it. I've seen security bars (thin horizontal bars) that drop in brackets ten inches up from the bottom, for the driver/passenger door. If the window is shattered, they still can't crawl inside.

Agree about the dilemma with locks but there are much more discrete locks which look factory fitted but then do you want it be obvious. Decisions decisions. Fiat Ducato is the original manufacturer, ram pro, peugeot and Citroen are revranded versions.

Call lock.. I have thought about that problem a lot preparing for future van built.. My solution is to take my van to a welder and have him welded metal slip locks on all the doors and openings.. That way, I can secure the van down from the inside at night, where no one could open the doors..
Just like a car, you don't want people to see that you have anything too valuable through the window. That part is important. The amount or kind of lock may make a difference. Depends on where you park probably on that one.
It would be cool if you could put a camera in the door to peep outside if an intruder comes up to your van. Bright flashing lights and a loud siren would also be cool...
A $40 cordless grinder will slice thru that sheet metal in less than five minutes allowing the complete removal of the lock assembly. Yes it’s a bit noisy, but if a thief wants in they’ll figure out a way… Wouldn’t be worth the trouble for what you’ve hog in there now, but thieves stalk to see what you have prior to actually breaking in.
When using an allen wrench use the long side so that you don't have to keep taking it out and in. Then use the short side at the end when you need the leverage to tighen it all the way down.
1. Push the panic button on your remote control (car alarm). 2. Buy bright lights to light up the area with the push of a button. 3. Act like you’re talking to someone and tell them to get the gun. 4. Being used to an area means someone may be used to seeing you by yourself. While you feel comfortable, they may feel emboldened to try something.
I actually had my keys stolen and have put screws on the inside plastic lock slide to stop the unlock travel that would happen with a key. I leave them in all day except for the drivers door. I put that in at night. Just use a small drill to make the hole and most any screw should work. I also put a slide barrel bolt on the inside back door to lower frame to prevent them from opening. Looking into cameras too. Totally understand your experience with miserable jerks. 😊
I just someone parked on my street that had a steering wheel lock bar, and another lock on the front wheel. Anyway, have you looked into an alarm like the guardian? I have seen several install videos on it. Also Ladi and Margret installed electronic locks inside the doors. Did you look into those? (A bit pricy)
360 degree cameras and recording device and a loud external alarm should be on your list also. Great job with the locks. Good video! So rediculous they teach how to break into locks on open internet.
It would be fun to install an #1ED to help eliminate bad people.... The problem is losing your van & everything inside, but at least the bad person can't hurt people anymore.
Locks are for looks. Anyone who breaks into vehicle for a carreer is not even slowed by them. Hi Tory. Great job, I see you love pink color, right? Which's why you have Allen Wrench (pink) tools. I suggest you may hookup the magnetic cameras (I believed, they came with 2 or 4 cameras including wireless monitor and solar light outdoor on the Amazon). So, in case, you can see someone at night. Most van life ladies, they carry something to defend themself. Such as a taser or pepper spray for safety. Have you thought about it?
inside your van dont lock the slider rig up a latch or chain that all you need to do is pull the chain off the hook and if lock is unlocked outside thief could possibly lock it if hes picking it was a trick tenement renters used to have 3-4 locks plus chain on there door always left 1 unlocked at least they said that check a Byrna type non lethal .if you dont care for that get a good heave blade kitchen knife or a hunting knife the kitchen would be proper in your kitchen drawer but off road defiantly have a knife handy or the non lethal. unless you get permit to carry real one pa is good state to get one and north east states leave it home especially the criminal loving nj and ny . the glass film not too expensive just make sure if tinted its not too dark or just get clear uv blocker

Will that pin hold the back doors closed if the door latches are defeated I would think with a bit of force it will just pull out. I would rather put a u shaped bolt at least or a combination padlock for proper security.
Tory it's me again Tony I have watched the video the only thing thing is that hopefully you never have to get out with all of the doors locked up so may I suggest that you have a fire extinguisher Justin you know Justin just in case lol and a way to get police response don't worry I will never stop praying for you
The worry of window security is why I've been looking for a van with no windows. I personally would just feel safer but most of the more affordable vans for sale near me have side and back windows so, the search continues. ..
Rivnuts require alot bigger hole but they are stronger. I would entertain the idea of replacing the black gasket with genuine UHB tape and screwing it back on. That UHB tape is really strong and super hard to remove or separate when applied to clean surfaces. That would eliminate the large holes drilled for the rivnuts. The sad part about doing youtube is you basically are advertising what all is in your van build and the bad guys watch TH-cam too! What ever you do as far as final security.....make sure you can get out reasonably quick in case of internal fire emergency. Have fun....God Bless....Stay Safe
Thank you for posting this video! I just ordered it from Amazon. I also put in the HEO locks. Have you come up with a way to secure the sliding door from inside?
are going to put security cameras on the outside as well? question: whats to stop someone from coming along with allen wrenches and unscrewing those screws to take off the locks altogether? why dont they use locking screws?
@@ToryDelury cool my daughter 21 is thinking of going vanlifer with her partner and I am really watching your make overs and telling her to watch you first and some of your old ones aswell before making the final decision. thanks so much.
OMGOSH this happened to me. It was terrifying. He was actually pounding on my van windows where I was sleeping. I set off my alarm and it had no impact on him. I waited until he went to the back, hopped in the drivers seat and took off. I saw his face and he looked so creepy.
❤❤❤ hey Tory its Tony ummm you need nuts and bolts to secure any lock. That lock comes off with a hammer, if you only just screwed the lock in from the outside. One hit from a hammer.... Need to have nutts and bolts
Because of the location it would only be able to be rivnuts since you can’t reach behind the locks. Which I mentioned in the video about rivnuts for added strength! And the instructions on the lock include screws and suggest it, so I’m having faith they have tested their product. This lock would also be able to taken off probably in numerous other ways but so do most others. I like that they all include making lots of noise though and it would take extra time etc so instead of relying on one lock alone I like to have numerous security systems to build a good foundation :) Hope this helps share my thought process :)
@@ToryDelury If you could get behind the panel for a nut, use nyloc nuts. But since you can't the rivnut is many times stronger. The sheet metal screws can be pulled through easily if you don't care about damage - like a thief wouldn't. See how far open you can open the back door with the inside pin in place. I would hate for that pin to be able to be pushed out with a slightly open back door.
Tory….. security is huge….. every night all of my doors are padlock shut from the inside….. I have a dog I have security cameras…. And other various weapons……. For your safety, never let someone trying to get to you know that you are a solo woman in the van. Don’t speak or make any identifying noises. Just blast an alarm and drive away. You don’t want them to be looking out for van if they see you another time.

Tory. Thanks for Sharing... Great post so others can get this crucial tips that are warranted to be safe and also secure their property. You probably covered it but if you where buying the van all over again, would you get it with rear windows?
I honestly think I won’t know this until I live in it. If it was just me in the van I would do no windows for safety reasons. But my cat loves windows & I wanted her to love the space too so I did it for her & thought I could make some kind of reinforced window shutter type system like in a house but haven’t quite figured that out yet. If she doesn’t care about the windows in the end though I will definitely regret it haha. Over all though it does make the space seem bigger and I liked waking up seeing beautiful views without having to open the doors but whenever I think of security it’s just such a massive issue. So I still go back & forth :)

It would be cool if you could put a camera in the door to peep outside if an intruder comes up to your van. Bright flashing lights and a loud siren would also be cool...
Brilliant as always 💚 Great idea to add extra security Looking forward to seeing your next Adventure! Have a Favorite week! 💚🤟
A $40 cordless grinder will slice thru that sheet metal in less than five minutes allowing the complete removal of the lock assembly. Yes it’s a bit noisy, but if a thief wants in they’ll figure out a way…
Wouldn’t be worth the trouble for what you’ve hog in there now, but thieves stalk to see what you have prior to actually breaking in.
When using an allen wrench use the long side so that you don't have to keep taking it out and in. Then use the short side at the end when you need the leverage to tighen it all the way down.
Mine aren’t double sided 😭 Must have been the sacrifice for buying them in pink lol
Thanks for sharing!
Also I’m sorry to hear about your scary experience with that man banging on your van.
Sounds awful.
You did great.
Stay safe.
Hello. Great info Video for security of one home / van. I have seen a guy using door security called “ Thunder bolt “.
Wish You Well.
That's pretty cool. Wouldn't mind having something like that. Hate leaving my van by itself when hiking or something.
I have deadbolt locks that mount in the doors you'd need a Sawzall to cut through them from the outside.
You have a lot of close calls ! You’re very lucky. Stay safe.
Hello Tory be great when you finish your van as security good but not enough in your van to steal yet. Take care and enjoy van and conversion xxxsteve
Hello to your New Fur Baby....
Bet you Love her so Much....
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It would be fun to install an #1ED to help eliminate bad people.... The problem is losing your van & everything inside, but at least the bad person can't hurt people anymore.
Locks are for looks.
Anyone who breaks into vehicle for a carreer is not even slowed by them.
Do you think they cannot break the windows or windshield to gain access?
#1
24x7 video recording with cameras that capture all vulrnerable area (and add exterior night lighting if necessary - do not rely on IR [black/white])
#2
Deafening Loud Alarm that you can activate at will
#3
guns and ammunition
UPDATE - I watch second and third vidoe of yours and I see you apparently already know about this stuff
best wishes
thunderbolt locks are the best
Get a large dog for a companion. I have a English Mastiff and Great Pyrenees both are 200 pounds and they will most definitely defend me or my family and they are wonderful company.
Locks look great - well done!
The added locks are great, but I still hope you have some kind of personal defense weapon. Bear spray at the very least.
Phew...scary. Be safe out there!
inside your van dont lock the slider rig up a latch or chain that all you need to do is pull the chain off the hook and if lock is unlocked outside thief could possibly lock it if hes picking it was a trick tenement renters used to have 3-4 locks plus chain on there door always left 1 unlocked at least they said that check a Byrna type non lethal .if you dont care for that get a good heave blade kitchen knife or a hunting knife the kitchen would be proper in your kitchen drawer but off road defiantly have a knife handy or the non lethal. unless you get permit to carry real one pa is good state to get one and north east states leave it home especially the criminal loving nj and ny . the glass film not too expensive just make sure if tinted its not too dark or just get clear uv blocker
Loved the video! Stay safe!
TORY girl i was looking for something to put on my craft room wall and you came to mind they actually have beautiful 3D paper and it so you oh yeah from Temu I've ordered from them before it's beautiful oh that portable air conditioner i have one in my craft room i add ice to mine i keep a bag full in an cooler so i won't be walking in and out of the house and since i don't open my door much it least a while BUT your in Vagas it hotter then Corpus Christi, Texas, and you adding those locks you did great, Take care, God Bless 🙏
Will that pin hold the back doors closed if the door latches are defeated I would think with a bit of force it will just pull out.
I would rather put a u shaped bolt at least or a combination padlock for proper security.
That sure is a stark looking van.
Like your vlogs, and wise to put those locks on .
Can I say you are the fastest talker ever heard.
That's not a criticism.
Stay safe 🙂
Thank you!
Micro cameras so you can view who is at the door on your phone n it sends uploads to a cloud n sd card so we can find them
I dont need locks I have sharks with giant laser beams 😂
TAKE MY MONEY! Where do I get some 😂😂
Tory it's me again Tony I have watched the video the only thing thing is that hopefully you never have to get out with all of the doors locked up so may I suggest that you have a fire extinguisher Justin you know Justin just in case lol and a way to get police response don't worry I will never stop praying for you
The worry of window security is why I've been looking for a van with no windows.
Yes! I already ordered them 🎉🎉
@@ToryDelury cool my daughter 21 is thinking of going vanlifer with her partner and I am really watching your make overs and telling her to watch you first and some of your old ones aswell before making the final decision. thanks so much.
Thank you for your install.
OMGOSH this happened to me. It was terrifying. He was actually pounding on my van windows where I was sleeping. I set off my alarm and it had no impact on him. I waited until he went to the back, hopped in the drivers seat and took off. I saw his face and he looked so creepy.
I am so sorry that happened to you! That sounds terrifying!
Is there a convenient way to store the pin with the circle when not locking the doors? Chain or magnet?
Definitely add the rivnuts those screws would take hardly any effort to pop off.
tell me your mansplaining without telling me your mansplaining
@@TheAprilWindz you might be overly sensitive
It's a possibility but hey at least you have some and know how to use them. And pink is cute and feminine which is also important lol.
Tory….. security is huge….. every night all of my doors are padlock shut from the inside….. I have a dog I have security cameras…. And other various weapons……. Locks are a good idea.👍😎
🤔 why don’t you have a dog? I think you training a dog would be good content and just you two together would be neat to watch….. Not to mention, depending upon the dog, it would be good security….
Nice to see you Tory😊👍
For your safety, never let someone trying to get to you know that you are a solo woman in the van. Don’t speak or make any identifying noises. Just blast an alarm and drive away. You don’t want them to be looking out for van if they see you another time.
Im So Keeping this IDEA for Me❤❤❤
9:03 Do you have a Diesel Heater in this van build? Highly recommended.
Maybe someone makes or can custom make you some shatter proof polycarbonate windows, at least for the rears and front-side
check this guys setup when in van you can see who is outside decent idea he came up with i planning my van to have a way to see if i have to back out of drive or parking spot left sights good byt right side without slider window is back and hope
So excited. I am so glad and happy to see you feeling better. You look enchanting. Shamim 🐓🤝💑🧜♀️🎎👄❗💋🧿💘👥🤰🤱🦅
Lovely your channel on TH-cam video. So much. Lovely to watching your TH-cam video so much great job be safe 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
I am definitely saving this for the next van!
Thanks so much Bunny! I love your van & your channel :) Love all the tips 📈 ☺️
Crime is out of control in this day and age,if you don`t keep valuables in the van they can`t steal them
holly cow glad your safe and awesome install and if ever in Kingman AZ, you have a place to park your van on my property. just hit me up and stay safe and awesome
What do you mean you're not living in your van full time anymore? And why is Vegas so green?
Gosh. What an experience. Maybe it is good to have unbreakable film on windows.
Stickers that refer to gun ownership I find work well
Can I plug two full size refrigerators into one Anker?
@@ToryDelury Absolutely the pros and cons, well happy building of course and happy to be following in the build journey...
Have you thought about training your cat to be a guard kitty? LOL
all the locks in the world dont matter when you got glass windows. drive through tucson, oakland california-- its smash and grab-- im steal plating my chevy express windows
I have a plan to fix the window issue! :)
Good video ❤😊
Always wear work gloves, lucky you didn't get a metal sliver, when brushing away the drilled holes
