Really beautiful. We can all feel our own personal moments in Declan's writing. Thoughts that weren't at the surface and his music somehow shakes them up and gives them life like when you disturb stuff on the ocean floor. That's some gift to have and I'm so glad he has it. And to wrap it up and intertwine it with such beautiful music. Ah such pleasure for the ears and the mind...so good..Well done.
As Declan O'Rourke asked, How's your belly for spots, this is an old London greeting so don’t worry. Now back to the music of this man, The first time I saw this man singing his songs I got an odd thought in my head, I looked at Declan O'Rourke like he was a master painter with the way he used his words and told his stories, he paints a picture with his songs that stayed around and became more clear with time. I would class Declan at the same level as the master Vincent van Gogh for the sheer quality of his works. I have never before matched a singer, songwriter with a master painter. The only other person I have thought of in this way was the very great poet/songwriter/storyteller/historian/adviser/master musician and the greatest rocker of all time Phil Lynott who was also a man that could put pictures/ mini films and majick thoughts in your mind with the great songs that he wrote/sang and played
I never heard of Declan before the early hours of today as I listened to RTE Radio. I had to keep rewinding the show to catch his name, and subsequentially researched his music on TH-cam. He is so inspirational with those wonderful lyrics that drive me back to my love of writing poetry for unhearing ears. This song made me reflect on a sad relationship I have with my only daughter, which I have determined to put right after listening to these amazing lyrics.
Now this is simply Magnificent. What an album we are in for. If it only has the five singles released so far and nothing else, it will still be my album of the year. Watching this video just now and the emotions it brought out in me will never leave me. Thank you Declan, this is extraordinary music you are making right now. Super proud of you.
This song, like the whole album, is engaging. Narrative songs like small paintings in a too large art hall. You would almost pass them by, because they do not stand out in their grandeur and compellingness. But look at them closely and you will discover greatness and heartwarming honesty.
It's really good to see you So long since you've been home You look so good life has been good to you But the lines on both our faces show how long you've been away You lose a half a lifetime when you look the other way He spends a lot of time these days Just like an old sleeping lion in the chair He's still so strong you know it But the work is here and there And he's so proud... He'd never let you know There's so much to talk about But anyway... it's so good to have you home. And I liked standing out here watching the people all arrive All the funny ways that people re-unite, they're so alive! Shrieks of joy Tears of joy It would do anyone's heart the world of good to come stand here On random days, and just imagine That you hadn't seen your own for years and years And then to realise... Just what you've had all this time Every minutes like an hour The excitement's hard to take It's your loved one that you know well Still you think of what you'll say Precious memories come flooding through And tough ones too... When I look back now we were so young You were going away and you might never return I sat on the floor in front of your chair And with an ice pop stick you fashioned a French roll into my hair Well I guess that was our way to say goodbye And then you couldn't make it home in time when Rosie died Sippin beer in the sun she'd say When the playful rum would try to wash the bitter tears away... But I liked standing out here, watching the people all arrive All the funny ways that people reunite, they're so alive! Shrieks of joy Tears of joy It would do anyone's heart the world of good to come stand here On random days, and just imagine That you hadn't seen your own for years and years And then to realise. Just what you've had all this time. Just what you've had all this time
Seeing him live on Monday, talking to a friend. About the national concert hall concert . No idea it was 2005, this man has had my heart for half my life 🥰
Just listened to Paul Weller on desert Island discs and Galileo is on his list, this one is on mine wow. new album is whopper some belters but this is my fav. Wellers new album is unreal too
Was introduced to this man's music through my girlfriend... got to see him in Galway on the 19 th march! At the ripe old age of 53...thought I'd seen ,heard, played it all! How wrong I was! What an incredible night...listened intently with three ears....left ear, right ear.. and the ear.. in my heart! Thanks Declan
This is right up there with his best work. It's a stunning song. I held back tears a few times listening to it but I don't know why I needed to cry. I just miss my mam i guess.
Declan this is so beautiful. The lyrics are so heartfelt. And on a personal note, thank you for supporting my daughter Taylor D . You're still the kind soul I remember from our junior years in Primary school. Regards, Edel
This is just phenomenal. Everything about it - I've never been so caught up in a song, throwing me from the past to the future and back again all through the present. I've not been home for 18 Month now and this song will be playing when I finally arrive.
Can I ask why the comments are closed on your song Sarah? I would love to know what it is about. The loss off a sibling or a childhood friend? Bless you bro, and thank you for your amazing music and song writing.
@@declanorourkechannel love to know how you got the piano on the train afterwards 🤣 Top tune sir, as always. I’m using a pseudonym but you’ll know me as the father of Marco the photographer 😉

So true and to see him live and experience it is so amazing. So lucky to have seen him in Galway Town Hall Theatre end of 2019.
Need a good cry? Live on the other side of the world, have a few beers on Paddy’s Day, listen to Declan O’Rourke and let the snot roll down your face.
Another beautiful song by Declan , I can definitely hear a hint of Joni Mitchell’s Rainy Night House in this . He obviously has good musical taste !!
Feck it, My eyes are broken again!!! 😫 😭😭😩❤

Sounds like a good idea, hope it goes well!
That man creates beauty every single time he sings.
Superb
Wept when I heard this, in a good way.. Missing my son and grandkids.. What a gift, thank you so much.
