My torsion bar broke, so I reached out to ZT and they sent me a replacement. That one broke eventually as well. Now I’m just keeping it manual. It’s a great folder either way. I love it
Any tips?...mine doesn't want to flip all the way deassisted. hate the assist, but it almost feels necessary on mine. Side note, all of the ones i have heard about that have done well deassisted were elmax and mine is the newer s35vn, but idk how that would make a difference
Just bought one, deassisted it 30 min after getting it, at first It wasnt great, took it apart again used benchmade lube on the pivot, did the hinderer centering trick, and it flips like a dream now, 0 blade play
So you may not like the looks but after watching someone beat the living snot out of one of the ZT Hinderers you probably wouldn't mind the looks. I think his channel is called Vininull and I was blown away by how well it did. The only knife I think was as insane was the Adamas.
The assist kept me from getting the 0770. I picked up the 7777 Tuesday, best Kershaw of the year! My favorite ZT Hinderer is the 0562, it's one of my smoothest.
I deassisted mine the first day i got it. Now its super smooth and fall shutty. Still flips like a champ. I dont really know why they assisted it in the first place
I love that knife so much that I have two. The "busy" lock side is attractive to me (sorry Frankie). I have no desire to deassist either of them, but I understand there are those that "just can't stand assisted knives"... I'm just not that trendy lol. I'm definitely going to knife jail for this next comment... this is one of the few knives that I like to carry tip down for deployment reasons. Keep laughing guys!
Bubba Peppers hey I agree with you on the look of lock side. It’s not sleek, but they say built like a tank for a reason. It is hard to activate and close, but mine’s been improving with use. I suspect this was designed with longevity in mind, hence heavier assist spring.
I deassisted my 0770 and 0566. The detent was too weak on the 0770, so I put the spring back in. The 0566 flips ok, but feels great using the thumb studs. The spring stayed out on that one.
It has taken me a couple months and today I ordered the zt 0566 model.. I'm used to a frame lock folder with Ti scales that has a drop point blade with a grind I love, the knife is 19 years old now and still my favorite.. I'm used to the scales being the same on both sides of a knife but knife tec doesn't stand still.. It took Chris Reeves knifes 2 years to develop the frame lock.. I also own two liner lock knives , work fine. I agree with her the 0566 is a little busy looking on the steel side but I really know nothing about knife designs.. But if every item works and has a purpose that's fine as it should work. You are the only one who removed the spring.. So it can be done and from what you have shown works fine.. I guess fast deployment may not be a requirement. Or hasn't been in the past.. Well done
Another great video you two, you’re great together! So QQ: this was my first and only ZT so far, but you have an interesting collection. Any recommendations on one similar to this, or a preference on ZT’s that are in low $200 range?
Fill out a warrant service request for spare set of washers for this knife on ZT's site and they will send you both a small and large size washer - you can use the large one on the torsion bar side once it's removed so the washers are the same size on both sides. This seemed to help with the unassisted action on mine.
I deassisted mine and it will not flip. Any suggestions? Yes, cleaned it, lubed it...it goes about half way. Blade is centered perfectly when closed. Loosened the pivot, tightened the pivot. Used 3 in 1 oil.
The torsion bar can be a pain in the finger to deploy. I have broken two torsion bars breaking it in...but found after many, many deployments it isfine
I did it to mine and it just doesn't work the same . I'm sitting here as I type this putting back the assist, I had to order another torsion bar , lost it a while back . I have the g10 with elmax version its a great edc .I do wish the 0770 was manual that would make it perfect but its still a really nice knife cool video by the way , I subbed SHIT kai sent me the wrong torsion bar ughhhh. ordering another one right now. At least zt and kershaw give most replacement parts free. I like the kpl and they have kpl heavy for the detent. yes the nano grease is expensive
I've had this knife for a while and tried to de-assist it and no dice. Doesn't feel right! Maybe i did somwething wrong but not much can go wrong when you take out the torsion bar and then adjust the screws. So i just kept it in there! 😁
I only have experience with the cryo. I recently got a replacement spring from KAI and I used white lithium grease when I reassembled it. I must have bad luck with springs between that and the omega spring thing. I don't have ANY other knives with springs aside from the tangram vector, and that's different.
Josh Starkey I used white lithium grease on both my Link and Thermite and they broke within weeks of me using that grease, idk what happened but after I started using the Valvoline grease it has worked well
You don't need to boil the water. I have been able to heat up knives with scalding hot tap water. Just hold hold the other end of the knife with a towel because the whole knife is gonna get hot AF.
No need to de-assist. The spring will break in three to six months. I’ve replaced mine three times. ZT does have pretty good customer service. Although I waited almost two months for my fist replacement spring, I then resubmitted my request and received two separate springs in three days.
Once I deassisted mine it was 10x better. I have the older elmax g10 blackwash version and it flips great. Been my work beater for 3 years and handles everything I can throw at it.
The ZT0566 is a dated design that doesn't compare well (no bearings, overly heavy) with many of today's budget friendly knives from China: Bestech, Civivi, Tangram, etc.. I've owned mine for several years and seldom carry it, opting instead for knives from one of the aforementioned brands.
I must tell the masses that if your knife has a detent hole it can be deassisted but if it doesnt it is not safe deassisted and so many people are doing that and Idk why
Agree, the backside would look better if it would be plain CF or G10 for the other version, just like the 0770, plus it would reduce some weight on this quiet hefty knife. But I still love it, specially the BW version, maaaaan!!!
Cant believe you guys dont like Hinderer! You need to check out the 0562 if you like this design. Its basically just a larger version of this one with no assist.
I de-assisted my 0566, but then put the torsion bar back in and found that I couldn't deploy the blade using the thumb studs, which I could when de-assisted, so I took the torsion bar back out. The 0566 is a better knife de-assisted IMO.
You are so right, Frankie! There is TOO MUCH CRAP on the lock side with screws like bullet holes in a Chitown bodega... WTF? It's absurd looking. I've only seen one or two Hinderers I like at all. And that stupid -looking wheel contraption. Be careful with the boiling water thing - the detente might drop out!
Despise assisted knives. It's just something that fixes a problem that shouldn't be there with a quality knife. Make a decent detent and you're golden.
Hops And Lead what problem does it fix that shouldn’t be there ? It’s my understanding it was originally intended for states who can’t have real autos like my state
I have the Cryo 2 and I hardly use it because of the assist. Well, that and a scale screw fell out a couple years back. Whoa, Whoa, Whoa!! Is that the ONLY thing Frankie could think of to do with the torsion bar? Oh my, Frankie’s a dirty girl!! 😉😜
I have de assisted everything from Blurs to ZT's. It NEVER worked out. The detent these knives have is MEANT for an ASSISTED opening knife. In other words the detent is very light. It is the spring itself that keeps it locked into place then the detent second. You can get these designs to "flip" great. For about 5 minutes. I wound up RE assisting my old Kershaws etc. The 0566 is one of the best Hinderer knives ever. I had a 0566 S35VN CF that showed up new with the "rattle" of the torsion bar underneath the CF scale. Took off the CF scale and there was not much lube at all. I learned to use Vaseline in re assisting my old assisted knives. The thick Vaseline keeps the spring in place while you put it back together. Do not lose the spring!
Just noticed this video last night and deassisted my ZT 0566cf today. You are right, I much prefer the action now. Thanks.
My torsion bar broke, so I reached out to ZT and they sent me a replacement. That one broke eventually as well.
Now I’m just keeping it manual. It’s a great folder either way. I love it
I haven't watched the video yet but I deassisted my 0566 and it flips great...

@@TMD994 how is the pivot? Can you loosen it a hair?
@@SuperSteelSteve if i go any looser, the blade will rub on the frame...i guess it just wasnt meant to be for this one

I have the M390 and blackwash versions! Been de-assisting these for years! Been wishing for a titanium model! Would be my favorite ZT.....
yeah, we'd go for that too. thanks Spec-Op!
Have you seen the all TI 0562 they just came out with?!
Chris Howard I’ll definitely be checking that out brother, thanks for the heads up. 👊
I deassisted mine the first day i got it. Now its super smooth and fall shutty. Still flips like a champ. I dont really know why they assisted it in the first place

good stuff Bubba!
To each their own. We all have our preferences and there's nothing wrong with that!

Thanks you are one of the only people to show how the spring is installed. Thanks
I deassisted my 0770 and 0566. The detent was too weak on the 0770, so I put the spring back in. The 0566 flips ok, but feels great using the thumb studs. The spring stayed out on that one.
I de assisted my 0566 a few months ago and enjoy it a lot more. Smooth as glass.
Woohoo! Glad u guys finally tried it!
Lat night I De-Assisted my 0770CF & 0566CF and so far I am liking them both. Centered perfect and flip adequately.
I've de-assisted my 0566, 0770, and 0350. They were all good to go after.
thank you Nic
Bought one . Love it. Torsion bar doesn’t bother me in the least.
I tried to de-assit my Kershaw Drone, but it didn't work well because there was no detent ball, so I put the torsion bar back in.

My 303 has a really soft detent so I actually prefer to use the thumb studs
I deassited my 0566 and like it much better that way. It's my heavy user..great knife but definitely better without the assist.
Another great video you two, you’re great together! So QQ: this was my first and only ZT so far, but you have an interesting collection. Any recommendations on one similar to this, or a preference on ZT’s that are in low $200 range?
Tried to remove the torsion bar from the Link in M390 but couldn't get the scales off because of free spinning handle screws.
Fill out a warrant service request for spare set of washers for this knife on ZT's site and they will send you both a small and large size washer - you can use the large one on the torsion bar side once it's removed so the washers are the same size on both sides. Why not just buy the knife already unassisted and get the 0562? Yes it’s a little bigger but what is a quarter of an inch?
Do you think knive company s are slowly getting away from Assis.opening.?allmost a kind of automatic.sym.but i enjoy them.

What's the 2nd knife from the left? The ZT titanium with blue accents
Really awesome design look ZT Knife!!!😄👍💜💜💜
I wish I could de asist my cryo. But I heard that it doesn't have a decent ball hole.
Yeah I always wondered why you didnt have a 0562, this kinda answers that...
I actually do use that same bearing grease in my speedsafe knives! It really works well

good to hear!
i really could use a frankie to help with my knife maintenance. do you know where i could find one?
Have you tried that lube called Eel Snot? Not a joke! I think it's made in Williamsburg, VA. How about a review?
I deassisted mine, but the jimping on the top of the handle is painfully abrasive, especially when lightswitching. I may put the torsion bar back in.

Why would you put decorative thumb studs on a kife?
they are bladestops to retain tolerances for lockup. You can see the grooves they fall into on the frame when the knife is open.
I agree the non presentation side is fugly! Also got my pillowcase...LOVE IT!
haha awesome!
Cant believe you guys dont like Hinderer! You need to check out the 0562 if you like this design. Its basically just a larger version of this one with no assist.
Yeah I can agree that they have a lot going on in the back. But the 0562 is fantastic. One of my favorite knives. Pretty close to the 0566
Check out the ZT 0562. It should fill ur hands out. It has a 3.5in blade
Zt's aways have a break in time. Prob 100/200 flips it'll be smooth again.
Great video guys
thank you Lee!
Frankie would dig the back side if it had some color. Like a blade's we love ano job.
Personally I like the smooth Ti backside and Id rather have a Ti framelock than a linerlock in most cases (Shirogorov not included lol).
If you have one an ultrasonic cleaner works great for loosening loc tite
I like the assist
Should ZT be my first knife over $150 ???
you really can't go wrong with ZT
Frankie you can't say those things about Hinderer now! They've evolved with the tri way 😀
Boiling water does work. Mike Emler did it on my Caribbean
Bradley Leffert - yep I use boiling water on my balisong pivots to break loose the old loctite
Watch out Bird, that lady is tough!
I love that knife

So jealous of just the ZT collection alone...👍s up
I'd deassist the 0770 also.. Even better than the 0566
thank you PkwyDrive13
I never liked the fact that some frame locks don't have scales on both sides ⚔️
When I take torsion bar out it is hard to deploy, period!!!

no, we probably need to

Nice review and the ZT 0770 sucks If you remove the torsion bar did not flip well at all

I will say I can't unthink that now...... Lol i do watch till the end. Sometimes the end isn't the end.
lol thanks for watching (until the end)
@@BirdShotIV your welcome... I even give y'all thumbs up.. Lol really I usually do. I did forget on this one glad I just noticed..

what was it? we don't choose the ads :/
Nice. 👍🏼
thank you TheLanWoo!
Definitely agree! Totally not a fan of Hinderer.

I have never been a fan of frame lock kniveswhen the lock side doesn't match the show side. Just looks unfinished.
Think of it like 2 face from the comics. Lol
