    Prices are sure hit or miss. I think I saw the Bugout on their shelf for 114. That is dead-on mail order price. Then, other knives are 40 or 50 higher than mail order. crazy

    • @fullfire0
      @fullfire0 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it's weird for sure. Like, I bought an 0450 for 160 a while back, then I go in a few weeks ago and and it's 180? Same price as the 0450CF. And the 940 is 200+.... it's very hit or miss. I've gotten 2 bugouts from them, got one for 90ish and the other for 110 and those were great prices.

    The new Cabelas down the road from me is the same size store... not one of the Ginormous ones (which I was really hoping would come into the neighborhood). You get what you get. It's still a great place... parking lot is usually 3/4 for any day of the week and on Saturdays and Sundays... forget it... all of the outsiders are visiting... no parking spots at all. I have my phone open at Cabelas every time I go in there... checking prices against Amazon or whatever. Gotta be careful when shopping there. "You go in there... you can spend a lot of money" ... well put! Shop wisely everyone... don't be infatuated by being in a "reputable place"... check Amazon and other places before making purchases. Thanks Bird and Frankie ... Great incite video!!!

    Felt like you saved me the trip I make, over & over again. The knife aisle's I do a breeze through (not interested in Gerber, Ruger, S&W, Buck or SOG and their Kershaw's are way over priced. At least the counter lets you cop a feel for what I'll potentially buy later (online).

  • @bobbyhill4118
    @bobbyhill4118 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    What I usually use to sharpen knives starts out very gritty depending on the extent of damage to the apex, and I always sharpen my knives to a convex, though saber and Scandinavian are ok, you can make really fine feathersticks with a convex, and with a Sabre or Scandinavian grind they tend to be better at really digging into the wood. For sharpening, I would go for is mid grit wet stones (500 to 700 grit) and a leather belt. After sharpening up your knife, strop the edge across a belt after removing the wire edge and all the burs, it should pull very, very little steel off of the apex to get you a keener edge. Also, with knives, I’d try to avoid serrated ones, although they can cut better, you need one of those diamond things to sharpen them and you can’t do fine work with them. I’d only get one if I intended to hunt with it where I’d need a knife that really can saw through flesh and dig into meat, especially if I were butchering the meat and not just processing it. For butchering, I’d go straight to a machete or an LMF 2, and for skinning and gutting, i’d go to a Mora robust. There’s some really good knives there.

  • @rekozma
    @rekozma 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not going to talk crappie about lansky but if your just getting into sharpening go with the Spyderco sharp maker. IMHO the best for the first timer. The lansky takes a little time to learn but once you get in down you will wish you spent just a little more and got the kme, edge pro, or the wicked edge. All are much better quality and the stones are of much hight standards. Great video guys. Cheers. And for me gear is more then cars. I buy my cars cash and drive them for 4-6 years but my gear I buy every week. And it never goes away.

    • @bobbyhill4118
      @bobbyhill4118 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brad Griffin The gerber strongarm isn’t that bad. If you’re buying gerber knives, just 2 rules that I go by, never ever go for the folding knives, and don’t go for the “bear grylls” stuff unless you’re getting a ferro rod. I always go for Steels I know are hard, yet rust resistant and tempered. I’ll buy a knife that’s at the very least, 58 Rockwell. The mora robust Holds an edge well and sharpening it is easy since it’s a Scandinavian grind, and it’s thin profile means that it will be easy to razor sharpen it. It’d be a perfect hunting knife or carving knife, the bushcraft black is a bit more of a jack of all trades knife, and the strongarm is the strongarm, it’s tough, you can split wood with it, but it will need a sharpening every few days if you’re out bushcrafting with it and consistently using it. I’d choose a good corrosion resistant knife, depending on what part of Australia you live in. If you live in the forest area, get a rust resistant knife, not tool steel, not carbon steel, but hardened stainless. Go straight for the carbon steels if you live in the desert area, and make sure it has a good sheath that won’t break or wear down.

      @@bobbyhill4118 I have the 2 knife 'moment' kit. I really like the handle material and I like the double sheath design. I can live with the softish steel. But then, I haven't used them for their intended purpose yet. I know they lose their edge fairly fast on biltong compared to other steels I have. The pair are useful together though if you're into minimal carry for animal dressing. Just be sure to carry a sharpening tool as well.

    You should have checked out the ZT 0462 if you didn't already... ive handled 3 of them and every one has been drop shut perfection... they fixed the flipper from the 0460 that was too sharp

    Yes, I'm telling you, in a Roundabout way, you have great taste in music.
    I bought a used SOG Aegis and am pleasantly surprised by it. However, the pocket clip with the cut out SOG logo is a complete faceplant. It hangs up in, and tears up, the pocket.

    Great video, my closest Cabela's is 3 hours away. I always enjoy what you share as a couple. Hope that wasn't the Ted Bundy Grill. Next time don't forget the bargain cave.

    The prices looked awful to me guys. For example I have that Steel Will Druid. Love it. It was 55 bucks. And that was at a trading post in NH. My Bugout was 110. Was it 85 for a Delica? Those heartless bastards.
