How to Fix a RV Slide-Out...the not so easy way!

  • So when I bought my 2001 Beaver Patriot Thunder, I knew the main slide seals were falling off and the slide was binding. I decided that I needed to finally fix these big issues before I do any other upgrades or repairs. This slide issue is a fairly common problem on these era Beavers so I thought I would explain the simple method to fix. Unfortunately, my smugness and surety got ahead of me and my planned simple repair turned into a bigger project. So here is the first part of the slide repair and hopefully, I can get it corrected and not ruin the best RV made.
    Thanks for watching!

      My gut feeling is that unbolted roller was sucked inward, and you can't retrieve it ? Great idea in theory to gently raise slideout to gain access to rollers and adjust each roller. My 05 dynaquest instead has fixed long hard rubber bridge that SO travels on and it has slipped off its support bridge as couple screws broke loose.

    I hope that roller didn’t flip and destroy your FRP bottom. 😱🤞
    I had to replace that wiper seal on the bottom of my front slide on my 2001 Marquis last year. The biggest mistake I found this year is that Beaver seamed the FRP panels right where one of the rollers sits. It ate up the bottom of the slide this summer when the adhesive failed. I ended up using fiberglass filler with the short strands in it to repair that area. So far so good. I guess never a dull moment in RV ownership.

  • @nylonstringninja
    @nylonstringninja 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    This makes me feel a lot better about using pebble FRP when I rebuild my bunk slide floors. I recently upgraded the rollers under my oversized POS schwintek slide. I added some extra ones. You're right most people dont understand those rollers basically carry all the force, they are the fulcrum and the slide out is like a lever that moves in and out over that fulcrum point. I've never seen anything like that adjustable roller, awesome! Sure beats ordering several different heights or screwing with shim stacks.

    @WilliamLaakkonen 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Wow- I would've been tempted to jack it up and attach an approprite length and width of AL sheet to the FRP which the roller rests upon. The adjustable roller is nice, but I'm betting when you raised it 5/8" that the inside edge dug in to the floor inside. Anxiously awaiting the "continued" part. Thanks for sharing- sorry to hear it got more complicated.

    The flush floor slideout on our '05 Monaco Knight hangs up at the upper left corner. I have to rock the right hand side to pop it loose. I took the wood trim off and find that the metal flange at the top drops into a pocket in the wall from the right side to about 1/2 way across, then pops out and becomes too high. I thought the roof of the slideout was bowed, but now I'll see if I can remove shim from the roller. Thank you for your great vids!

    Replaced three rollers on my 2000 Damon Escaper 3980 by installing a 4X4 on the outside top of slide out, then I brought the sideout back in against the motorhome top rail, raising the floor enough to remove and replace the bad rollers. It was a piece of cake to accomplish.

    I have the same situation
    I attach some stainless steel to the FRP so that the rollers rolled on the stainless steel
    Remember you had all the wood fibres by the cabinet doors?
    Stainless is very hard wood Is soft that floor is OSB or plywood under the FRP
    Stainless there for three years with no issues

    what I don't see is how you are going to screw down the new roller???? none of my angle drills or drivers will fit in that space???? so, I'm breathlessly waiting to see "your magic"!!!! I have a 2001 newmar DSDP 3852. big slide has fixed rollers on the inside bottom of the slide. the compression axle makes them simple to remove but the brackets are wearing out. I have found that best maintenance is to pull the roller, squirt light machine oil into the roller bearings, and blow it out with compressed air forcing new oil in and dirt out. Then wipe down with carb cleaner to remove any oil because they roll in on the carpet....this process seems to be keeping them in new condition. The problem is the holes that the axles fit into on the bracket, some have become a little loose.... but everything still lines up outside. With the rollers on the carpet they leave imprints when "in". but the carpet sort of "locks the rollers in place" to prevent the slides from moving out when in motion. the carpet and 1/2" carpet pad also act as insulation for heating and HVAC. yes, i have tile in the kitchen and yes, I know about the slide arm adjustment for up and down/side to side..... I had to rebuild the box on the rear slide where the rollers are mounted on the floor/box. Sadly, Newmar chose to make their slide floors from two 1/2" ply stapled together with no glue. I've screwed them together but they still flex and warp... grrr.....

But boy did it suck and I hated every minute of it............
    NOTHING LIKE FIXING THINGS WITH MONEY.....
