I get lots of compliments on my 2001 Beaver Marquis. Like you said you have to maintain them. I’m probably spending between $5000 to $10000 a year in materials and doing all my own work to keep it nice. Most people are shocked when I share the numbers of operating and upkeep of an old motor home.
Dude I so love your channel and I love your attitude and excitement when repairing RVs. With that being said I think GoPro should sponsor you so you can use both your hands while you're working. You are amazing at working with just your right hand LOL. Do a shout out to GoPro
May I suggest some info or a series on up grades that you feel are the better upgrades to do from diy and cost effective to leave it for the professional
Hi James! Do you think the same can be said of cheaper motorhomes such as my class C 2001 31C Winnebago Minnie ? Mine is still in great shape and has never leaked. Yes, It is kept in a building but I've only had it since 2015
Hey there! I just love your videos. No fluf and phonyness. I just ripped off and replaced my '90 Winnebago Warrior 21ft class c. I'm using the green zip system osb 7/16". Looking good with eternabond on EVERY seam! I know it's overkill, but I figured, better safe than sorry. I'm getting ready to put a pvc membrane down with their included glue (from RecPro) Question 1: It says to put the glue on the decking AND on the membrane to properly adhere it. I notice that when you've done it, you just put it on the wood and not the membrane too. Is it OK if I do it like that? Question 2: Should I prepare the osb first with some kind of primer or sealer before gluing the membrane? Will it help with adhesion? Thank for reading my post. I'm doing this project tomorrow and was hoping you or one of your viewers could help me. Thanks!!!!
Entry model RVs age better. When you start getting older luxury stuff, it's usually a steaming pile with all the stuff that either doesn't work anymore and/or how everything is obsolete on it and also a lot of the times hasn't been maintained. Chassis components and diesel engine parts are so expensive these days and made in china now, it's NOT even worth your time!! Much better finding an old gas rig. They age much better. Gasoline engines don't mind sitting around.. Which is what most RVs do most of their life, is just sit around ... Every diesel I've seen looks beautiful on the outside and it's really a pile underneath all that paint. Because they cost a literal fortune to maintain. Hardly anyone does that. I've seen prevost country coaches and emeralds and legacy that looks amazing. But they have issues that need addressing. Sometimes these issues can cost $60,000 or more..... So I'm very careful what I look at and what I fall in love with lol ❤️😆
Hi James, I am in the UK and have a 2015 Thor ACE 29.2 and I have noticed on the roof approx 1 foot diameter roundish section in front of the ladder that the roof covering has lifted, the wood underneath I mean, it's dry so I think due to traffic the glue it's lifted. What's the best way to stick it back down? Thx Mick
I have a 2005 holiday rambler that I'm finishing a roof that someone else took apart. The side and rear moulding is the kind that screws into the side but has the one inch or so "leg" on the top of the roof. I've dug all around the internet and TH-cam how to install and seal that type of moulding and can't seem to find anything. Is that style just really uncommon on a roof? Everything seems to be the kind that is only on the side like on the budget roof repair you did recently.
James, it really is a shame that no one gives a flying rat's snotball about doing quality work anymore. The build quality of our 2005 Monaco LaPalma is far superior to our friends' 2022 Jayco North Point 5th wheel, which looks like it was put together with cardboard; they've had it in the shop for the last year, trying to have the rear cap repaired properly (it came apart at the seam), and both times it wasn't done right. In the year they've owned it, they were able to use it twice.....they paid $120,000; we paid $37,000 for ours used.
I'm sad to hear that about your friends but it seems too common now. The manufacturers have done the numbers and since most RVs sit unused for 11 months a year, theres little incentive to make them last anymore.
AZ hello I'm in the state of Alabama do you know of any large RV salvage Yards in Mississippi , Alabama , Ten , or Georgia ? I have a 18' awning that the roller , Awning fibric cover is bad. Thinking this is a Dometic part maybe a 9200 or 9100 awning system. The panel is mainly make up of these 2 1/2 18' interlocking alum slide together panels with a locking screw at both ends. I hope I have painting a picture in you head of what this looks like. I have two panels that are bent and will not stay in place. I have tried to straighten then but this metal is really hard to beat back in place. I would not mid driving 100 to 150 miles one way to pick this panels or the whole awning cover. This is not a slide toper but goes over the front of my motorhome on the side where no slide is located. Just thought I would try to see if you could help me in anyway. Thanks so much either way Jeff Steele
You mentioned you saved about four tubes on one vent i am wondering if I am doing something wrong. I just re sealed a vent today and it usually takes me one tube for a vent of the Alpha lap sealant and I put a much more liberal amount than some people. It looks like a lot to me. Is it not normal to only use a tube on a vent? Edit: oh I see you were talking about a skylight and saving 4 tubes not a vent.
I have laid down a NEW EDPM unsealed rubber roof I need to install the roof vents with butyl tape and dicor sealant. However I’m plan to use Flexseal liquid on the whole roof. Which order? suggestions? can you guide me? Thanks .😢
@@mikerosenberger1631 Guessing entire roof. Inside headliner is all stained bad, previous owner claims repaired. I'm unable to climb so have no idea condition topside. James suggests once a year inspection, owned 15 mo, never inspected.
James is the best 1-handed technician!
That’s why I still love my 2000 Monaco dynasty, because it is very well built.
Another quality job James. You never disappoint us.
Sure like how you treat all your jobs as if they were your own. Great job and example James, thank you. Happy trails
another great job James. Thanks for showing us how it is done!

Right on, that's still very inexpensive compared to new RVs if you just amortize the depreciation let alone the upkeep.
You work better with one hand than I do with two of them lol . Thanks so much for your video EZ
Hi James another great video, it would be good if you could list the sealants you use for each job! For us novice Rv owners in the uk 🇬🇧👍
it's in the description with links
Always something new to be gained from your videos. They have been a great help to me in repairing my neglected travel trailer. Thanks
just bought a milwaukee cordless caulking gun, wow what a game changer
Great channel!
Thank you!
In Las Vegas Nevada do these products work well in our desert heat...
"Foreshadowing..." pop-up gets me every time! LOL

Thank you. I had a personal battle with cameras dropping audio and corrupting files on my Shasta build so I swore off of them
Where can I get one of those motorized sealant guns? Thanks
As usual James great job, we need you in Illinois.
I'm surprised the owner didn't opt to replace those parts. They're pretty darn cheap.
Fantastic Work, Thanks for sharing.
AMAZING workmanship: Well done, Sir! ! ☺
Nice job, James.

I'm glad u always seem to do the job right really helpful videos thanks
You're the man, great share. This information is so valuable for folks! 🤘
Beautiful man!

Great work, James, as always! Now ... about the slide-out on your Beaver ... have any video shot of that repair? Curious about what happened.
Thanks for the video james.

I can't speak to the use of zip board or how it will interact with the adhesive.

What’s is the proper way to secure new plywood roof to aluminum trusses in preparation for a new tpo roof?
Good job
Very little if anything made today is as good as years past.
Brinkley is using a new sealant that supposedly is lifetime could you use that instead?
When you re did the braces on the sky lite did you move them up so the sky light was a little taller/hi point on the roof?
Sir, your thoughts on using Eternabond instead of lap sealant?
just a question ... why don't they run the wires in thru the sidewalls?
What would you recommend to clean off dicor residue on a roof? Its on a 2004 Holiday Rambler Admiral SE
You rock, thanks for this video.
I need to buy some dicor and notice that there are different types. Do you have a preference on type?
self leveling lap sealant here, I like the white standard version

My 22 genesis toy hauler has rv tape on top of front cap to roof molding with a bead of self leveling sealant around the ends. Why?
How heavy is the max weight a person should be climbing on the roof to reseal?
most roofs can handle 2 adults it's really the small trailers that might be the most difficult to walk on the trusses only.
Thank you for the info Sir.

What are your thoughts on a 2020 Entegra Emblem 36T?
I am looking at one now, built in 2019 pre Covid.
Anything I should look out for?

Really a shame that they aren’t cranking out new Beavers at their quality… not that I could afford what a new Beaver would cost today…
I hate water damage
Since I can't afford to have roof repaired properly, paying to have Henry's painted on would work?
Nope

Well that's disappointing, no other options unfortunately.
Is there a specific section of roof or the whole thing is in disrepair?
