    Very intelligent breakdown of the film and reboots! I really agree with your points here, 21 Jump Street is the perfect way to reboot a franchise while walking a perfect line between parody and serious narrative. Now you need to do 22 Jump Street - a fantastic sendup of sequels.

    As a stage actor, I find people not liking the idea of reboots or remakes for films quite humorous. In theatre, that's par for the course. Most great written plays will be retold on the stage thousands of times. I've done two plays multiple times. Playing the same character in the same play twice in two very different productions with two wildly different takes on the material and as such, my character, while being the same, was actually quite different.

    Which is why it is funnier than 'spoof' movies that just mimic things that are silly already, which also rely on you being familiar with the thing it is trying to parody. You don't need to have seen the tv show to find this funny, just as you don't need to have seen Excalibur to appreciate Monty Python's holy grail.

      Pineapple Express and Superbad top all of those for me. And the king of all comedy movies, The Big Lebowski, tops them all. Ive never heard it in an interview or anything but as far as I can tell The Big Lebowski laid the groundwork for all of the comedies we each have mentioned(particularly the Apatow/Goldberg/Jonah Hill/Seth Rogan/James Franco comedies of the last decade+), and I dont think its been topped yet. Though they've definitely honored the legacy.

    Completely agree, owning the present fully with a gentle reference to the past is the perfect formula, cast played a crucial role in pulling it off though, especially JONAH HILL, cos ABSOLUTELY ANYONE COULD HAVE PLAYED Channing Tatum's role... I mean anyone, from a concrete slab to John Cena or any other big guy, shame Dave Bautista is too old to go undercover to college, but he could have went as a substitute teacher while JONAH HILL would have went as a student and it would have still worked AND EVEN BETTER, main workaholics here are JONAH HILL and ICE CUBE aka O'Shea Jackson, I don't like nicknames at all, even cold drinks related ones, LOL

    People who bitch about remakes annoy me so much because
    1. You did not pay for that movie to be made. The only time you have to spend money on it, is by going to the theatre to see it. That is a choice you make, and if you don't like the movie- tough shit. You aren't owed a movie you like, you are owed a movie and that's it.
    2. It's arrogant. That is not your book/movie/show, you did not create it. The creators were not thinking about you when they made the original, nor were the creators of the new ones thinking about you. They don't know you, so for you to be like "WAH! They're ruining my childhood" Just sounds like you being selfish. It's not about you.
    3. The old/original stuff still exists. You might have to pay for it or pirate it, but the reboot/remake of something doesn't get wiped off the face of the Earth.
    Don't like that something is being remade? Fine, don't consume the new version, but shut the fuck up and stop acting like you're some kind of victim because a tv show got a modern reboot. Fuck off.
    The audience doesn't fund a movies creation (beyond box office sales being high making it more likely that a sequel to said film will be made), producers do. Beyond the ticket sales that come out after a film is already finished and ready to be screened, you have fuck all to do with movies that get made. You just want something to bitch about.

  • @seansverige
    @seansverige 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can't be arsed. Not yet a minute in and you're wrong on two points: a performance of a play *isn't* a reboot - it only becomes that if the source material is _changed_ in some way. With the initial examples you almost seem to be suggesting that ratio of good:bad reboots is 50:50 - if that were the case I seriously doubt you'd be making this video...
