If you make it to the West End, in Byres Rd you can find the Oran Mor which is a former church converted into a entertainment venue. The interiors have been decorate by Alistair Gray, painter & author. Turning right & across the road you may find the Botanic Gardens or turning left, a couple of hundred yards down Byres Road, you will find Ashton Lane, a good place for a little refreshment. I hope you enjoy your visit.

The Subway, which dates from 1896 is actually the third-oldest in the world, but the trains are new - having just been introduced earlier this year, replacing trains that have been running since 1980, when the busier stations were also enlarged with one or two side platforms and better entrances. Glasgow also has quite an extensive suburban train network, as well as buses.

Edinburgh is certainly the tourist city and yet if you were to trip and fall over in Edinburgh then people would walk over you, but in Glasgow people will make sure you are okay. Also the accent is very different so Edinburgh sounds a bit 'posh' and Glaswegian can sound harsh but Glaswegians are far more sincere and genuine. Also one of the scenes in WWZ was indeed filmed in George Square but did you recognise the Necropolis which they filmed the end scene in 'The Batman (2022)'.

I enjoyed this video. I’ve lived just outside Glasgow all my life (I’m in my 50s), and just to echo other contributors, I’ve never tried deep-fried Mars Bar. I’ve never even seen one, other than on TV or TH-cam. £9 sounds a bit steep for a pie and a Mars Bar, no matter how highly the place is recommended. West End is best for a day out - Byers Road, Finnieston, Ashton Lane, etc, but the Horseshoe Bar near Central Station is something of an institution. I’ve never done it, but I believe you can get a tour of Glasgow Central’s disused underground system. Among other things, I think it was used to bring home fallen soldiers during WWII.

It's a fine city, and similar to places like Liverpool and Belfast, the people and their humour really make it what it is. It was known as the second city of the empire in the 19th century and the city centre is sometimes used as a replica for Manhattan in movies given the size of the buildings an the grid referenced street layout. The main difference from Edinburgh is that its more of an everyday, vibrant working city, which relied on heavy industries to make its way through the industrial revolution. Many a famous ocean liner was built on the Clyde, and shipbuilding continues today. That aside it has a lively arts, music and cultural scene, not to mention the sporting interests. They say people make Glasgow and that's probably correct. Edinburgh is obviously more tourism orientated and to my tastes its feels like a theme park, especially during high season. Glaswegians will always be around to welcome you, whereas you may be hard pressed to find an Edinburgh local in the city centre during festival time. 😅 Enjoy your travels, oh and that's a great chippie by the way.

@@michaelhawkins7389Glasgow's razor gang culture was a product of the 1960's and was eradicated long ago. In 1990 Glasgow was declared European City of Culture. It has hosted major global events, most recently the Cop 26 climate conference and Commonwealth Games. For years it's been considered the most visited city in the UK outside London for shopping. It has two universities, a huge international student population, leafy suburbs and affluence. Every city has less well off areas, drug problems etc. Edinburgh is no different in that respect, did you see Trainspotting ? The other thing about choosing to live in Edinburgh is that it being a victim of its own success, you're going to need a lot of money to get anywhere on the property ladder. 🤘🏻
