Honestly shocked this is the creator's 1st attempt at both game dev and animation, the animations just make it ooze with personallity and humor, and the gameplay is just flat out fun and exilerating, no other words can describe it.

The player has time to be a slave to the combo meter. they have time to frantically try and route while keeping the voracious meter saited, and then when it depletes they have the illusion of choice to hit the start button, go to the "restart level" button, and lose all their progress for failing to meet the ever stringent conditions that Pizza Tower's performance anxiety sim gameplay demands. This game foolishly flew too close to the (Speedrunner) sun and for that reason, I cannot in good faith ever say it surpasses Wario Land 4. Wario Land 4 never cast judgement upon it's players.
Also remember the dev worked on this game for like 5 years. It was a risky shot, but certainly he learned A LOT of game design and animation on the way to release.

What shouldn’t go unappreciated is the connection with the fanbase this game has. Over the half-decade of development, there were multiple playable demos and other progress updates. Tour de Pizza did it- they refined their game and got it out. That hurdle is one that so many indie devs just never get over- and now that it’s out, I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
That review was very smooth. Very short and to the point with little to no filler just like Pizza Tower itself. The MCPig interview bit was a nice touch btw.
Yeah for sure! I know at least one review brought Pizza Massacre (the horror comic/game predecessor to Pizza Tower itself), though it's odd no one's talked about press related stuff with Pizza Tower. Still, I think it's neat that there's so much more to Pizza Tower that people have yet to learn about.

I don't really mind if the game didn't win an award, since the game award often biased to me. Everyone who have ever heard/played the game knows it's GOTY material. I haven't played it but just by looking at it, the game looks very fun
To be fair goty awards are for AAA companies to pat themselves on the back for their mediocre work and advertise their trash. If you really want something honest you would need to have a separate group made from a community of real gamers and a way for the common folk to voice their opinions as a whole.

I've boiled it down to why Wario Land hasn't gotten a new game. It was R&D1's series alongside Kid Icarus and 2D Metroid. But along the way the teams split up and now theres no one in Nintendo who will pitch a new Wario Land. Miyamoto sure as hell aint gonna do it because he's never been heavily involved. Maybe a supervision for Mario Land 1 & 2 Thats also why the latest Metroid games have outside companies working on them. None of them are solely from Nintendo like back then So, its either other devs who will do it or the Indie scene. And as we can see, the Wario Land formula still has life to nourish and flourish
The revival of metroidvania’s seems to have spurred Nintendo to breathe new life into the Metroid franchise. Maybe Pizza Tower could do the same for Wario Land?

Funny thing. From what i understand this game was also the main composer Ronan "Sauceman" de Castel's first gig aswell. So we a got a first-time developer creating a game that transcends its predecessor with a first-time composer delivering probably one of the best OSTs of recent time.

Pizza tower is a very easy game if ur playing normally but if u wanna challenge urself with getting S and getting every achievement in the game then its an extremely hard game
One very notable thing that Pizza Tower managed to do better than both Wario Land 4 and the Sonic series, is that: No matter how pointy and sharp the enemy's weapon is, if you run at them very fast - they will panic for a moment, and you will be able to crush them without stopping the momentum.

Not to mention that Pizza Tower has been in development for 5 years, with constant feedback from an entire community that also gave him the ability to stay motivated and keep going.
I recently purchased Pizza Tower, and it is WAY better to actually play than to just watch. I already P-Ranked Pepperman, and I’ve been trying to P-Rank Vigilante.
This game is so good that I needed to stop playing it because whenever I would go back to Wario Land (or even sonic) my Pizza Tower muscle memory would kick in😂😂😂

Wario Land 4 > Pizza Tower. I like Pizza Tower, but the controls can be more wonky than Wario Land, the story line isn't as interesting, the art at certain points, especially from level to level, can feel rather generic, feels like they could have put more effort into it.
I get what you mean about the controls, they take some getting used to. I don’t really play these games for the story though, that’s not a big deal in my book.

Wario Land 4 is better, it's not complicated. The game is actually somewhat difficult and has diffuculty settings, on a less powerful console. It's also the original.
Everyone is talking about this fucking game. But because they made it in GameMaker, it's a shitshow to port, so we'll never see it on Switch, so I'll never buy it because I'm not taking my desktop PC to the toilet.

Pizza Tower actually has less exploration than most Wario Land games, but it takes the transformation system and the speed aspect of 4 to refine the action

This is a great video, and tbh the content is decent, however those who dare to compare the wario land series with Pizza tower with the wario land series are insane, pIzza tower is just a 5 world game while the wario land series is a whole genre inspiring lots of games and lot of content to explore and reach in 4 awesome games each one with their own pros and cons, Pizza Tower is just another fashion game that people will forget in less than 1 year, good content tho but lets not compare apples with pineaples

Pizza tower is certainly a really REALLY good game. However, it has one major flaw that brings it down. It doesn't have Wario.

Fun fact for those who don’t know: the game engine for Wario Land 4 was also used to make Metroids Fusion and Zero Mission.
The idea of escaping a level backwards to finish it seems to have been heavily influenced by metroid, too.

@@indiegameoasis just by looks. Cuz wario land 4 seems a bit more straight foreward whime shake it kinda slowed it down but asked a slight amount more brain power for finding all the loot. Pizza tower clearly said "ah yes...both."
Pizza Tower actually has less exploration than most Wario Land games, but it takes the transformation system and the speed aspect of 4 to refine the action
@@supercamborg4218 of the earlier games yeah for sure. I beat the original for the first time a few months back (shameless plug) and it was a helluva lot of fun

This is a great video, and tbh the content is decent, however those who dare to compare the wario land series with Pizza tower with the wario land series are insane, pIzza tower is just a 5 world game while the wario land series is a whole genre inspiring lots of games and lot of content to explore and reach in 4 awesome games each one with their own pros and cons, Pizza Tower is just another fashion game that people will forget in less than 1 year, good content tho but lets not compare apples with pineaples
