- With the release of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl this year Giratina as well as Dialga, Palkia and the legendary Arcues will be back in the spotlight. A lot of people have asked me over the years if I think Giratina is an ultra beast? My short answer is no but that does lead to all sorts of questions about the Pokemon Multiverse, how ultra space works, and how different pokemon dimensions interact

I think Giratina is the ruler of them instead.
Another thing that sorta debunks him being an ultra beast is that giratina was created at the same time as palkia and dialga. He's just in the distortion world because that's where arceus sent him.
What if Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina are Ultra Beasts tasked with maintaining the balance of the Multiverse?
Solgaleo and Lunala are basically the incarnations of the light source for the universe the player lives in, as seen in Ultramegalopolis after Nekrozma ate their Solgaleo and Lunala.
Imagine the chaos that would result from the maintainer of time or space disappearing, time and space suddenly becoming unstable, moving faster or slower, closer and and further at varying amounts. Meeting yourself or other trainers like Cynthia, Dawn/Lucas, Riley, Red, Blue, Green, Gold, Kris/Lyra from different times and universes. It would be exactly the same as Fallers in USUM.
@@Iskaid Problem is that Dialga, Palkia and Giratina created Earth, Space and Time and as a result, also created the Legendary Giants (Too shape the Earth) and Kyogre and Groudon to watch over them, with Regigigas being the all being watching over all of those. So if Dialga, Palkia and Giratina are Ultra Beasts, so are the mons they created.
@@nickdentoom1173 hey, Hoopa is technically classified as an ultra beast in gen 7 even though it was always in the PokéEarth and doesn't have a UB classification. It wouldn't surprise me if Legendary Pokémon in general were all UB that were created on PokéEarth.
That would explain why they generally have power over shaping nature and things around it and are generally elusive, something Lugia and Nekrozma have in common. Lugia causing storms and whirlpools and Nekrozma stealing light.
Nekrozma had also been on PokéEarth long enough to be considered a normal Pokémon so Beast Balls aren't necessary in capturing it. Wouldn't it be nuts if Pokémon came out and said the majority of Legendary Pokémon are actually UBs that are accustomed to life on/in/around PokéEarth?

Given how often Giratina can be found outside the distortion world I figure the legend that pokedex entry is referencing isn't accurate. That said, it does seem that Palkia, Dialga and Giratina are all creators/embodiments of the universe itself, being collectively responsible for matter and the laws of physics that determine its movement and behaviour.
A great representation of how these other types of multiverses aren't exactly contradictory. You can have all of the above, if they're real. There's no reason why another type 1 universe can't exist outside of a pocket dimension or a type 3/4!

@@BirdKeeperToby I agree with CJ cayer, I also like tye idea of type 4 due to DC comics with the universes that are positive matter( ever growing) negative matter universe (distorted) and the ones that will eventually go into darkness/ glitch (ultra worlds) as dark matter, and the God like plane of existence. What if guzlord is pokemon Z, a failed attempt like a dubious disk.

There's no "which one's canon" in the established Pokémon Multiverse. Every playthrough on every copy of the game is a world of its own
This is one of the best Pokémon theory videos I have ever seen, not just in terms of the theory itself (which is absolutely amazing might I add), but also the research that went into it, the way you presented and explained it, how you answered the question that everyone's always wanted answered without really realising it and, of course, the classic bird keeper Toby charm at its peak!

Their explanation in ORAS is amazing, when in the Delta Episode we are told that the "Link Cable" connects different realities/dimensions/whatever you wanna call it. Pretty much every time you create a Pokémon Save you create a new line in the infinite pokémon universe, and things happen differently on each one. The same character/person starts their adventure with a new starter and the first Pokémon they catch is different. Maybe in that timeline they lose the first rival battle, or maybe they just get two crits in a row and get it over with. And they are all connected through the amazing technology of the Pokémon World, which they dubbed the "Link Cable", the thing that can connect different worlds.
Thats a really interesting concept of how link cables are a connection of universes

... just realized that, since different save files are their own worlds, this means that all global connectivity features are, in universe, access to other type 3 or 4 worlds that everyone is surprisingly chill about by the time the games happen
In the ORAS games, a device called a "Link Cable" is used in order to create a warp hole through which they send a meteor that was on a collision course with earth.
This is obviously a reference to the Link Cable originally used to trade between games prior to wireless connectivity.

I think ultra space can also access the type 3/4 multiverses though, because team RR come from either type 3 or 4 since they’re from alternate timelines, and they get to alola from an ultra wormhole
The anime also backs this up with the episode Ash is sent into another universe where Guzzlord destroyed everything

I was so hyped for first hearing that the generation would indeed be remade (as it was my favorite; Torterra on Carbos remains my favorite 'mon too). However, the lack of news on the Distortion World immediately killed my interest.
If they _do_ confirm that the remakes have it, then I might still pick it up.

In the Latin american dub of the anime the voice actor for james is the same as Ryan Reynolds, therefore Pikachu. So there's a joke were him and Jesse are playing to dub what they think Pikachu sounds like and james goes "wait I've dub him before I know what he sounds like" and then proceeds to talk like Detective Pikachu.

Smashing video mate. This was brilliant. I’m a pretty big science nerd so a video like this definitely has me intrigued all the way through. Until this video I didn’t even know 4 types of multiverses could’ve been a thing. I was only familiar with type 3 & 1. I think you explained everything quite nicely!
Wow. Good vid, great crash course on multiverse theory, with pokemon logic to back it up.
And it was mentioned that the pokemon world also somehow includes our world, when Arceus’s creation vision had views of the real material world, making all the pokemon logic still qualify as a basis for helping explain multiverse theory in our reality. Fascinating. Watching this looking back after playing PLA is really interesting.

Just so you know, it's actually type 3. It's just that the differences started earlier. Note that Fairy Type only existed AFTER the war and mega were born... so we can assume that the Fairy type wasn't a fully natural type.
So if different choices were made sooner, then it'd be possible that things were different. Type 4 is basically a mix of type 2 & 3... anything could happen and varied rules.
Type 3 is just different choices creating different worlds. Like your tree of evolution.
P.S. Just because Fairies exist doesn't mean Megas have to exist; it just means that some Pokemon were infected by the energy that created the Fairy type. So some event just had to happen at some point to create Fairies without megas (though that means that it's possible that Mega evolution could exist without Fairy Type..
Something fun is the anime brought up the Many Worlds Theory when referring to Ultraspace. Would likely also apply to the mirror worlds seen in Reflective Cave, though that may also be Type 4

Wow! Such an engaging and interesting video I learned a lot from. I know a couple of years ago I watched your videos, but haven't in a while. This definitely got me back invested in your channel, with well-thought out content that i can enjoy.
I agree with the idea of the pokemon world like a bubble, but the center is the observable universe. Outside of that, type one universes (i.e. ultra space) exist. I don't know how much I buy into the third multiverse theory, where every choice you make creates a universe with a new outcome. I think that the fourth one is the most representative of the game-to-game universes, and how that crazy theory works.
Thats just throwing thoughts out there though, not really anything great! Thanks for the videos =)

Watching Bird Keeper Toby videos after a hiatus from the channel (cause TH-cam never tells me when he uploads) makes me feel like one of those Grandmas who just have to tell you how you've grown. Look at you with your ponytail. I think in one of these videos he had some facial hair. I feel like he's totally grown up.
Sheesh! I never played Pokémon platinum and anything after Diamond and pearl, but this was a good video explaining multiverse even for people who haven’t played platinum and above or even Pokémon at all for that matter.

@@kerrywien6775hey can you explain the thing that tobey said about the type 4 multiverse in pokemon like it's kinda complex as wasn't type 4 multiverse just mathematics but here he is saying something else.
I don't exactly know if this relates to this but in one of the pokemon movies where there is a Darkrai that is trying to fight dialga and palkia so they would leave the town in the movie Darkrai put people and pokemon to sleep and later on we see that these dreams have become sorta reality but ghostly I at first when watching this thought is this what Darkrai does but another idea that I have is that those dreams are becoming reality because of dialaga and palkia and after watching this and where toby says the dream world may be a pocket dimension I can see now that maybe it was palkias power causing the dreams to become real by making the dream dimension mix during the fight (edit: thank you for listening to my random rambling and thank you for your time)

I think the language between all of these are a little too interchangeable. That’s why these discussions are so hard. Any of them could be considered “parallel, inter dimensional or alternate” I wish it was this sinple

The description that I was given by someone who works with nintendo is that the ultra space wormhole is inconsistent as to where it will take you. Sometimes you are just going to another plant and sometimes it is another universe. You as the player cannot ever tell for yourself which is true.
Even if distortion world is a dimension in ultra space giratina wasnt originally from there it was sent there idk if u mentioned that

Doesn’t this mean that the Pokémon multiverse is somewhere out there because it can be deceived so it exists.
i’d suggest the following:
type 4a)
applicable within one generation of games. possibly resulting from many worlds interpretation but the decisions that resulted in the differences cannot be traced back.
type 4b)
applicable between generations. resulting from fundamental physical differences such as „ther is (no) day/night cycle“
What if there is a 5th type of multiverse that we haven't pinned down how it works yet and is more closely related to the type version instead of the individual copies
1:30 I think the game versions are close, parallel universe. And when going there the ultra worm hole, you go to a father, a.k.a. a more different universe. Or alternate universes.
I never played Pokemon platinum diamond or pearl. But I do hope I can play one of the new Pokemon games

I’ve think say my copy of red and someone else’s copy of red are type 3 multiverses while my copy of red and someone’s copy of blue are type 4 multiverses.
I wanted to add that the DC Multiverse (DC being Superman, Batman, Justice League etc) works on String Theory.
The theory being that the smallest thing in the universe is strings and these strings vibrate. The vibration is what glues you to your universe which if you vibrate those strings differently then you instantly travel to an alternate universe. The Flash literally vibrated himself to trave to alternate DC universes and Superman shouted at Darkseid to vibrate him out of the DC universe to another DC alternate universe.
By the way DC has created a map of their multiverse it is very interesting.
While most fiction uses what Toby labels as type 3 & 4 as their multiverse which is most likely how Pokémon Multiverse fictions I find it fascinating that DC decided to do their own thing.
